WARNING: MENTION OF ABUSE AND VIOLENCE. PLEASE READ IT WITH CAUTION.

Zhu Kang sat there in the dusty room watching the young man mumble Gwyn’s name in his disturbed sleep. The poor young man’s back was still oozing blood. The dusty mares were covered with new red spots that covered the brown splotches.

He just realized what kind of tragic life the original Zhu Kang led. It made him slightly appreciate his life. Even though he was a system, had his memories wiped, and made to serve people. He was not hurt physically. He was not tortured physically and mentally like this young man was.

This also made him realize how much desperation the original Zhu Kang lived in.

As he was thinking this the small broken door creaked open. a little figure crept in.

The young Zhu who was asleep in the bed suddenly sat up. "What do you want?"

The little figure moved closer to him and swayed down. he was carrying a small dirty bowl filled with clean water and a small towel. "it will get worse if you don’t wash it....."

"I don’t need your help," young Zhu refused to look his way. He laid back down, completely ignoring the fidgeting figure by his bed. his actions seemed like he was so used to this. it looked like their routine.

"it will not hurt... I will be careful." The little kid soaked the towel in water and tenderly wiped down the wounds. Little by little the clear water in the bowl as stained red/ the young child’s eyes too were red. he was slightly sniffling. "You... does it hurt?"

Young Zhu just raised a brow. "Are you crying, you whimp? That’s why everyone bullies you."

"I don’t like to see you like this. you.... you deserve more... you deserve to be happy," Ruth whimpered, hugging the blood-stained rag.

Young Zhu just snickered. He hid his face with his hand. "don’t we all...."

Zhu Kang, who was watching this, noticed tears roll down the teen’s cheeks. His nose turned sour. He couldn’t stop the tears from flowing down. He focused on young Ruth who was sobbing so earnestly.

’Maybe he isn’t so bad after all...’

After wiping down Kang’s back, Ruth left the room.

Zhu Kang just was a spectator. He simply watched as days passed. Every day it was a routine. Young Zhu ended up with a torn back and Ruth would wipe it for him. after a while the young kang lost his vigilance against Ruth and Ruth even slept beside him on the floor.

Clearly, he could see the unbribed affection young Ruth had for him. it was not tainted with lust. It was pure affection.

But young Zhu was not that naive.

His eyes held a calculative gaze as he looked at Ruth.

Zhu Kang sighed. Staying in such an environment would twist people’s mind. he had escaped Zhu Kang to stay the same. But the young teens changed as days went on. he started to ’use’ Ruth. He used Ruth’s love for him to get benefits.

Slowly time changed. Young Zhu had grown up to what he looks like now. He had a head full of hair that went down to his shoulders.

"Shall I braid it for you?" Ruth whispered lovingly.

’Zhu Kang’ just coldly nodded.

Young Ruth tenderly took out the knots in his hair and braided it with a clean piece of cloth. "You have beautiful hair..."

Silently, Ruth combed his hair.

"I want to leave this place," young Zhu broke the silent between the two.

Ruth’s hands paused. "You want to leave?"

"hmmm.... I want to leave. he has lost interest in me." he gripped his hand and kissed his palm. "Would you take me out of here? you would, right?" he gave him a seductive smile.

Ruth blushed red. the young man suddenly hugged him. "I would do anything for you."

"Good, let’s leave this place and lead a happy life forever,"

Ruth smiled gleefully. "F-forever. Let’s stay like this forever. I love you Zhu Kang,"

"And I you," young Zhu said so but his face did not look any different. His eyes still remained soul less.

Zhu Kang who was watching this sighed. ’Ruth craved his love but ’Zhu Kang’ did not have any love to give... it’s a sad romance... poor Ruth I feel sorry for him,’

The scene in front of him changed. It suddenly brightness Zhu Kang shielded his eyes from the bright sunlight.

A silhouette of young Zhu was seen. In front of him stood a tall man. "Gwyn? Oh my god... he is here. kang you are saved. Woohooo, you are saved. Get out of this place!" he patted the young man’s shoulders.

Young Zhu just stood there like a doll blinking at him.

Gwyn dropped everything he was carrying and ran to him. he pulled him up into his embrace and hugged him like he would a baby. "You are alive... you are alive... brother,"

Young Zhu’s dull eyes brightened up slightly. "b-brother... is that you?"

"it’s me.. its me." Gwyn cupped his face gently. "I’m sorry I was late.. I’m so sorry,"

Zhu Kang blinked rapidly. His eyes turned red. his stuff hands hesitantly touched his back. "you’re real... Gwyn..."

For the first time after so many years, young Zhu cried. He sobbed was so heartbreaking.

Zhu Kang happily smiled watching their reunion. "Finally. The troubles are over. They can happily continue doing their villainous activities." He shouted, jumping around in glee.

The happy scene dissipated. He watched Zhu Kang and Gwyn move into their house happily. They had nothing. Yet they were content.

But not everything was okay.

In the surface, they looked very happy but every night young Zhu was plagued by nightmares.

He tried to hide it from Gwyn but it didn’t work. his brother found out. He wanted to find a best doctor to treat his illness.

Young Zhu rejected it immediately. Because they barely had money in their pockets. and because they were living here illegally, they had to buy fake id cards and certifications. that coast them a lot. it put them in massive debt.

Gwyn was insistent.

Fed up with his nagging young Zhu decided to study psychology to understand and heal his own problem. He started to study for his college exam.

To earn a bit for his college expense, Gwyn started to work in the nearby construction site.

In his ghost form, Zhu Kang smiled at their happy life. Every day, Gwyn left for work in the morning. Zhu Kang studied all day to get into a college.

One day young Zhu made some sandwiches and left for his brother’s construction site.

Zhu Kang also floated after him humming a happy tune. The construction site was quite close to their house. It only took a few minutes to reach the gates.

But what he saw made his blood boil.

His poor brother was being bullied by the people around him. one man even went ahead and hit his head with a brick.

"Come on, try it guys. He is just a fool. he won’t do anything," the man laughed, hitting his head again. "The usual five bucks, right?"

Gwyn nodded. "Five bucks for a brick,"

Everyone followed suit and hit his brother with bricks.

"Hey!! You assholes!! Look here. I will fucking kill you if you touch him! I will kill you!!!!" he screamed patting young Zhu’s shoulders. he wanted to know what he would do.

Young Zhu did not do anything. He simply turned back and walked back to their house and sat on the floor.

Zhu Kang frowned. "Why aren’t you doing anything? You were supposed to protect hum. You...."

Gwyn returned home and noticed his weird state. "Hey, I got you a smoothie. I got a bonus today. I bet we will be able to earn your expense in a few months."

The young Zhu looked up at him with an unknown look in his eyes. "let’s use our powers,"

Gwyn froze. "Huh?"

"Let’s use our powers."

Gwyn did not take it seriously. "We are too old to register as supers. Now they will find out about our identity. Our id cards are fake. They will find out."

Young Zhu stood up and walked up to him. he patted the dust off his shoulders. "Let’s be villains. Let’s be villains together. We won’t have a shortage of money. You don’t have to work every day to pay off our debts."

"Zhuzhu, it’s just a small amount. I can pay it back in a few years. We don’t have to..."

"No, I want to be a villain. Let’s rob a bank."

This was the beginning of their villain story.

Zhu Kang witnessed them try to rob a bank. Of course, it failed because Gwyn was a fumbling mess. He did not have the heart to hurt people. So, he let the cashier go. The man alerted the heroes. Altren intervened and stopped their first-ever heist.

The twins hurried back home in secret. Gwyn guiltily glanced at his brother. "I’m sorry.... It was my fault,"

"We will get better in time... don’t worry,"

They didn’t get better. Every time Gwyn fumbled in their heist. And Zhu Kang did not have the heart to reprimand him. So, they turned out to be a failure of villains. Even so, their heists did earn them a bit of money here and there.

They were able to pay back the debts they had when they made their fake identity.

The newspaper collection on the wall slowly got bigger and bigger. Even though they were a failure they were happy.

Until one day, they were not.
