The Rogue Alpha's Second Chance
Chapter 76: Motive

Chapter 76: Motive

The basket of flowers swayed in Violet’s hand as she walked towards the house. She wished to catch fish from the river, but Lydia forbade her from doing so, afraid of her slipping and getting hurt.

Violet’s steps paused when she saw Lydia walking out of the house. There was a tense expression on her face.

Violet wondered what made her upset.

"Are you going out, Lydia?" she asked.

"Yeah, I was called by my mentor. There is work in the laboratory," Lydia responded hurriedly.

Violet wanted to inquire whether everything was alright, but before she noticed, Lydia was out of her sight.

When she entered the house next, she saw Lucas sitting on the couch, leaning against the back seat. On his lap was a petite woman seated, feeding him cherries. There was obvious intimacy between their actions.

No wonder Lydia was upset.

Violet frowned and stomped over to them. She slammed down the basket of flowers on the table to catch their attention.

Lucas looked over.

"Oh, Princess, you’re here? Let me introduce you to Stella. She is a good friend of mine," Lucas said.

Violet’s narrowed eyes examined the woman for a second. She was gorgeous and seductive— quite opposite from Lydia. Each of her movements with Lucas was suggestive, and Lucas responded well to them.

"Oh, Lucas? Is that what I am to you? Just a friend? I thought we had more backstory between us," Stella responded in a joking tone, tracing his jaw with her finger.

"Not here, Stella. Alpha will kill me if I pollute her eyes," Lucas stated.

Stella merely chuckled before coming over to stand in front of Violet. As she brought her face closer to Violet, she subconsciously took a step backward.

"You’re cute. Are you Lucas’s new favourite?" Stella vocalized. "Ah, you look like you’re pregnant. Does he sleep with pregnant women now? Or could this be his child?"

Violet was dumbfounded by her abrupt questions.

Before Violet could respond, Lucas came forward to form a barrier between Violet and Stella.

"Don’t scare her," Lucas said. There was a hint of warning in the undertone. "Not even I dare to touch her. You should stay away, Stella."

Stella scoffed and sat down on the table.

"Look at you being so protective. Aren’t you going to introduce who is she to you? I am getting jealous here," Stella stated.

"All you need to know is that she is Violet. The details are none of your business." Lucas waved his hand at Stella.

Then, looking over at Violet, he voiced out, "Ignore her, Princess. She has something wrong in her head."

"Is she a special friend of yours?" Violet questioned. If Lucas brought her over here, that did mean she should have more value over Lucas’s other bed partners.

"You could say that," Lucas vaguely answered.

"Why is she here?" Violet asked.

Lucas was a little taken aback by Violet’s cold tone.

Before he could respond, Stella tilted her head and spoke out, "Little Princess, what’s with that tone? Could it be that you like Lucas and are jealous?"

Violet ignored her and questioned Lucas: "I saw Lydia was upset before she left. Did you fight with her again?"

"She had one of her usual tantrums. It’s not a big deal," Lucas spoke out, running his hand through his hair.

Violet’s gaze on Lucas turned more fierce.

"Well, I will leave you two alone to flirt with each other," Violet spoke out, heading upstairs to find Alpha.

Lucas stared at her back, confused.

"It seems that your little Princess isn’t much fond of me," pointed out Stella.

"Violet is kind and sweet to everyone. If she doesn’t like anyone, that is probably their fault. She must have seen through how evil-hearted you’re," commented Lucas.

Stella scoffed. "She has got you wrapped around the finger."

"Is she going over to Alpha’s room?" Lucas mumbled before shouting, "Wait, Violet, Alpha has guests over!"

However, Lucas’s words fell on deaf’s ears as Violet pushed the door open and slipped into Sylas’s room. When she was about to animatedly greet him, her expression paused.

There was a beautiful and elegant woman sitting beside him. The distance between them was close. Both of them held on to a glass of red wine while discussing about affairs.

Before Violet could say anything, Sylas calmly said, "Violet, close the door and leave us alone, alright?"

She nodded.

Although Sylas’s voice was gentle as ever, there was a coldness and alienation to it. Violet thought she had already passed that stage and became closer to Sylas.

With a heavy heart, she stepped out of the room and closed the door behind her.

"Violet? Is she the one?" Gabrielle said.

Sylas nodded.

Raising the glass of wine in her hand, she took a sip out of it.

"She seems like someone untouched by the cruelty of the world. A carefree, spirited, and innocent child. Even I would feel guilty about deceiving her." A chuckle left her mouth.

Sylas gave her a cold stare.

"Right, you’re the great Alpha Sylas. Nothing will get between you and your great motive. That heart of yours in frozen in ice," Gabrielle commented.

"Cut the nonsense, and get back to work."

°°°

Sitting on the stairs of the porch, Violet pulled the grasses from the ground, nearly balding the spot. She raised her head to look at Alpha’s windows.

It has been four hours straight now, and the woman was not yet out of Alpha’s room. She wondered what they were talking about.

Lucas was occupied with Stella in his room, so Violet couldn’t ask him the details as well.

Violet leaned her head against the guard rail.

"No, Violet, you can’t let your mood be affected. You already promised Alpha you will not let your feelings affect him. You will love him from the side. Now, how can you be upset just because you saw a woman talk with him and he kicked you out of the room?" Violet muttered.

She then sat up straight abruptly and slapped her cheeks.

"Right. You’re a mature and stable minded adult, Violet. I don’t care at all."

°°°

That was a lie.

Violet couldn’t stop herself from caring.

Watching both of them chat about topics she couldn’t even interfere in made the food taste like plastic to her. It seemed both of them were in a world of theirs.

"Little Princess, is the food poisoned? Why does your face look so ugly?" Stella teased.

Violet looked at her displeased.

"Don’t call me that," Violet retorted.

"Lucas can call you that, and I can’t? I was right. You hate me, Little Princess, don’t you? I wonder what I have done to attract your hatred," Stella voiced out.

"I just don’t like you. Can I not?" Violet put down her fork loudly. She was already upset enough today, and Stella ruined her mood further.

"Stella, eat your food quietly. Don’t harrass others," Gabrielle said.

"Violet, don’t be rude to others," Sylas spoke out.

Violet let out a deep breath and stood up, pushing the chair back.

"I am not hungry. I am going back to my room," Violet enunciated.

Sylas furrowed his brows. "You haven’t touched your food. You will complain later about being hungry."

Why does he care?

After talking with Gabrielle the entire day, he had more to carry on during the dinner. He didn’t even introduce Gabrielle or asked her how her day went.

"I won’t," Violet responded before stomping over to her room.

°°°

Violet was hungry.

The gnawing hungry and her heavy heart made her roll on the bed. Recalling how she claimed in front of Alpha she won’t be hungry, her pride did not allow her to step out of the room.

It will be so embarrassing if Alpha caught her.

The door to the room then pushed open, and the smell of food followed. Violet sat up on the bed and found Lucas enter the room with food.

"I reheated your leftovers. I figured you will be hungry," Lucas softly said, walking in and sitting on the bed. He was afraid of provoking her.

"I am not hungry, but thank you."

Even though Violet said that, she grabbed the bowl of soup from his hand and began to quickly devour it.

"What’s wrong, Princess? What has you so upset? Don’t you like, Stella? I thought you got along with everyone. I will tell her not to appear in front of you."

Violet shook her head.

It didn’t matter if she had to interact with Stella. She simply felt bad for Lydia.

"Although she is annoying, she is still your friend," Violet replied, "and I just think even with someone as irritating as her, you get along so well. Why do you always fight with Lydia then?"

Lucas stared at her in confusion, wondering where Lydia comes in the equation.

"You can’t always blame me. Lydia is the first one to provoke me," Lucas spoke out.

Violet looked dissatisfied with his answer.

"And after a long time, that has become a natural way for Lydia and I to get along. Why are you bothered by it so much?"
