The Rogue Alpha's Second Chance -
Chapter 59: Forgotten
Chapter 59: Forgotten
As Violet entered the car with her head down, Sylas appeared beside her, and something cold touched her lips next. Taken aback, she raised her head.
"A treat," he said, holding a cone of ice-cream.
Violet took the ice-cream from his hand and tasted it. The bittersweet taste of the chocolate covered her tastebud, leading her to feel pleased.
"Alpha, where is yours?" she asked. "Do you not eat ice-cream?"
"Am I a child like you?"
Violet frowned. "What does eating an ice-cream has to do with being a child? And I am an adult."
°°°
Although three days had already passed, Mathew’s body still ached from the beating he received from Sylas. And thinking about those bright golden eyes murderously staring at him, Mathew felt fear rise inside him.
"This was foolish of you to do," commented Bella. "Even if you killed Violet off, there was nothing we could do against the wrath of Sylas Hale."
"Do I have to swallow down all the humiliation then?" Mathew’s eyes flashed red. His jaw tightened in rage.
"However, for him to protect her so well, I am curious what the story between them," Bella voiced out, contemplating. This was truly odd.
Mathew closed his eyes and recalled about those pair of silent domineering golden eyes before breaking out the news, "he is the man who slept with Violet— the father of her child."
Mathew’s memories went back to that night.
After Violet was drugged that night, he asked the waiter to take her away to her assigned room. To make sure everything went well, he went back to check on her.
That’s when, he met those pairs of golden eyes. Although they were calm and nonchalant, Mathew felt subservient to them, forcing him to lower his head.
His instincts screamed with danger, pinning him to his position helplessly. He could only watch as Violet was taken away by him, unable to stop him.
Bella’s eyes widened in disbelief.
"What? He is the one who slept with her? How come? Why would someone like him sleep with Violet?"
Although Violet’s appearance was endearing and cute, Bella did not believe she could attract someone like Sylas to sleep with her.
Mathew pressed on his forehead, feeling a headache build up from the tension.
"I don’t know! I have no idea! Why would he sleep with such a bitch!?" Mathew raised his voice.
"No wonder he protects her so strongly," Bella replied, lowering her gaze.
"What do we do now? Is there any chances of me getting stronger than me? There should be, right? Get me more of those drugs! Once I finish them, maybe even he would have to bend his head down to me," Mathew hurriedly said. There was an obvious hint of panic yet gloating in his voice.
His eyes were covered in unadulterated greed. Simply the thought of him being above Sylas pleased him greatly.
°°°
"There’s something wrong with Mathew," Violet voiced out her doubt on their way home.
Sylas arched his brow while he drove the car, silently asking for her to continue.
"He is strong, way stronger than before," Violet spoke out, "when he hit me that day, I could feel his strength. And when I had my wolf, he was way weaker than me although he trained more often.
For him to be able to maintain his consciousness after you beat him up like that, Alpha, there must be something wrong."
Because Violet was caught up in her thoughts, trying to recall all the time details about Mathew, she failed to notice how his hand tightened around the steering wheel.
When Violet turned her head to look at him, Sylas maintained his usual calm outlook.
"Is that so?" Sylas asked.
Violet nodded. "Could it be that there are others like you, Alpha? Maybe Mathew took that blood and became stronger."
"That head of yours runs very creatively at times," commented Sylas.
Violet furrowed her brows. "Alpha, I am being serious here."
"That can’t be it. I am the only one who has such a special blood," Sylas stated, "the only own remaining."
Violet went silent for a second. Although Sylas showed no change of emotions, something made her feel as though there was a silent grief in his words.
"That makes you more special, Alpha," Violet commented.
"Doesn’t it? But it’s not good being special all the time. Sometimes, it’s just better to be ordinary," Sylas responded— the emotions in his words were complex.
Violet blinked her eyes, feeling the solemn mood. Judging from the tone of it, it seemed as though Sylas would rather be someone ordinary.
Why would someone like him think in this manner?
"Alpha, was it hard for you?" Violet softly questioned.
"What could be hard for me?"
"Just because I had the Alpha blood, I had to be schemed against so badly by Bella and Mathew. It might have been worse for you since you’re one of a kind, and your blood is so precious that it would easily tempt one."
"Are you trying to pity me now? If I am standing here, you should understand they stood no chance against me. Violet, I was worse than them. Don’t mistake me as a victim." There was amusement in his voice, but those steely blue eyes were cold when they fell on.
Instead of being intimidated, she smiled at him and replied, "I know, Alpha, and I am glad. If you didn’t make it out, I will be dead as well. Thank you for always saving me.
Although I don’t understand why you’re doing so much for me, there wouldn’t be me today without you. That’s why, I will wait for the day you’re comfortable enough to tell me about everything."
"You’re indeed born to speak pleasing words," Sylas expressed, smiling.
"I am being sincere here, Alpha." Violet scrunched up her nose.
Sylas sighed. "Don’t think too much. There aren’t any motives. Just think that after committing so many evil things, I wanted to do something good for once."
This made the girl narrow her eyes at him.
"You dare to not trust me now?" Sylas questioned.
Violet changed the topic.
"Alpha, can you get me another gun? That bastard Mathew broke my previous one." Violet clenched her hand into a tight fist. Simply thinking about it made her blood boil.
"Sure," Sylas replied.
"And then, can you teach me more? Because you stopped giving me lessons for so long, my aim became bad." Violet wore a small pout on her face.
"You have learned to blame me for everything, right?" Sylas pointed out.
"Alpha, come on. Then, next time, you wouldn’t need to worry about me so much," Violet expressed.
"Got it. Don’t sleep in then."
Violet nodded before eating her ice-cream.
°°°
Violet entered her room with a bright smile on her face. Chatting the entire day with Sylas while the man accompanied her patiently did not give her chance to be depressed about Anna’s situation.
Once she closed the door behind her, Sylas was about to head upstairs when Lydia’s voice stopped her.
"Alpha, you’re back to being nice to Violet again, awfully nice."
Sylas nonchantly looked at her, waiting for her to carry on.
"Why did you not kill off that Mathew? You could have easily done that. You purposefully kept him alive. Why?" Lydia questioned— her eyes stared at the man solemnly.
Sylas calmly answered, "It would only bring me trouble if I took his life. I have no desire to be the pack’s Alpha."
"That’s not the case, is it, Alpha? You could have thought about a solution out of this. As long as Mathew lives, there is a potential danger to Violet’s life.
You show how you care for her so much, so how could you leave him off the hook? Even I would have taken his life if I was there." Lydia’s voice expressed her dissatisfaction.
Sylas remained unfazed, but his words held a sign of warning in them. "He is Violet’s enemy. I am sure she would want to deal with him personally. Is that all?"
Lydia knew better than to trust Sylas’s words. Despite his appearance, Lydia knew him well enough to understand spouting lies was the easiest thing for him.
"It’s odd to have you be so nice to her, Alpha, after how you did not want to do anything to her. I don’t think it has anything to do with how you suddenly grew a conscience. Are you planning something bad behind her?"
Sylas’s deceptive personality manifests the most when he looks at people with a smile, interacting normally with them. However, behind his back, he is holding a sharp knife to stab them deeply.
Lydia had seen enough to recognize Sylas’s behaviour.
"I didn’t keep you here to be audacious. You’re free to leave if you decide to comment on how I act," Sylas coldly stated.
"Alpha, I have no idea what is going through your head now, but if you decide to hurt Violet, I am determined to protect her, even if that means going against you. That girl is sincere towards you. Don’t fail her and be left with lifelong regrets."
"You’re showing contradictory behaviour. I thought you wanted me to stay close to her," Sylas pointed out.
"Alpha, there is nothing more I wish than for you to be happy again, and maybe Violet is the chance provided to you from the fate for that. However, if you are determined to ignore it, I have no authority to control you to do otherwise," Lydia expressed.
Sylas stared at her resolution silently for a while. "No worries. I have no intent to hurt her. I haven’t reached that low yet."
Although Lydia had suspicions, not believing the Alpha’s words seriously, she replied, "Then, I will take these as sincere words of yours."
