Chapter 201: Chapter 199: Follow the Vine to Find the Melon
Yang Su and Long Chen had spent a wonderful night together.
Their feelings for each other quickly intensified.
The next day, Yang Su left early, as she had important matters to attend to.
For she was preparing a significant gift for Long Chen and couldn’t afford to be lazy.
Long Chen then went alone to Dragon Doctor. Recently, things had been far from peaceful, and Dragon Doctor would surely be a place closely watched by various parties. Long Chen couldn’t just ignore it.
Halfway there, Long Chen suddenly sensed something amiss.
There was a chilling sensation on his back, as if he had been targeted by something.
Instinctively, Long Chen slowed his pace, but he didn’t look back.
After tuning in carefully, a cold smirk surfaced on Long Chen’s lips.
"It seems Shadow Hall still hasn’t given up on killing me," Long Chen thought to himself with a cold laugh.
A mere Shadow Hall, having tried to kill him time and again, could not go on unchecked.
And at this very moment, the assassin following him might just be the perfect person to lead him to Shadow Hall.
Long Chen pretended not to notice and continued on his way.
Yet his destination was no longer Dragon Doctor, instead, he intentionally chose to walk through secluded paths.
However, the assassin behind him was very patient and didn’t make a move.
It wasn’t until Long Chen arrived at a small park that the assassin step by step appeared before him.
"I know you’ve noticed me for a while, but I haven’t made a move. Do you know why?" the assassin, cloaked in black, spoke in a raspy and deep voice, indistinguishable as male or female.
"Oh? Why is that?" Long Chen replied without immediate concern for combat.
"Because I want to see what kind of trick you’re trying to play," the assassin said coldly.
"Oh, you aren’t worried that I’ve led you here so this place can become your grave?" Long Chen asked with a smile.
"I believe this is the burial ground you’ve chosen for yourself. Indeed, the environment here is quite nice, fitting for your eternal rest," the assassin said with a chilling tone.
"Is that so? If there’s nothing else to say, then you should make your move. If you wait any longer, I’m afraid you’ll have even less of a chance," Long Chen said.
"As you wish," the assassin declared, and suddenly charged at Long Chen.
Long Chen struck out with his palm.
But as he was halfway through his strike, he realized the black-cloaked assassin had vanished into thin air.
Bang.
In the next second, he felt a fierce palm strike against his back.
Originally, such a blow could not have hurt Long Chen at all.
However, to lure the fish to the hook, Long Chen intentionally staggered a few steps.
"You’re as good as dead," the assassin said with fierce, icy eyes, continuing the assault.
The assassin moved unpredictably, truly appearing and disappearing like a ghost, attacking relentlessly from all directions.
Long Chen continued to fend off the blows, seemingly being pushed back step by step.
After exchanging dozens of moves, Long Chen had a good sense of his opponent’s combat power, which was very strong.
An average martial arts expert would struggle to survive this kind of onslaught.
Alas, the black-cloaked figure had encountered Long Chen.
A being that stood above martial arts!
No longer concealing his abilities excessively, Long Chen began to reveal his true strength and counterattacked.
As Long Chen fought back, the assassin suddenly realized that Long Chen’s offensive power was frighteningly formidable.
Just a casual touch seemed as if it could dismantle his bones.
"You’re hiding your strength?"
The eyes of the figure in the black robe changed.
Long Chen smirked and said, "Not much hidden, but it should be enough to kill you."
"Damn it."
The assassin in the black robe immediately realized that his success was unlikely today.
Without hesitation, he turned and ran, disappearing from Long Chen’s sight in the blink of an eye.
This type of Martial Arts, called Ninjutsu in Island Country, actually originated from Great Xia.
However, while this evasive technique was mysterious, it still did not escape Long Chen’s discerning eye.
Long Chen’s eyes, capable of seeing through deception, allowed him no place to hide.
He immediately took action, stealthily following behind.
The assassin in the black robe quickly fled the park, glancing back frequently. After not spotting Long Chen, he stopped bothering to conceal himself, removed his black robe, and lifted the covering over his head.
Instantly, a perfect figure was revealed, with lustrous black hair falling down.
"A woman? Interesting."
Long Chen, not far away, revealed a smile and followed the woman in the black robe from the shadows.
She moved through the streets and crowds like any ordinary person, eventually entering a high-rise building.
Long Chen followed as well, but instead of taking the elevator, he ascended the staircase.
The assassin in the black robe was completely unaware that Long Chen had been tailing her the entire way and entered the Hall Master’s office of Shadow Hall.
Upon seeing the black-robed figure, the Hall Master asked sternly, "Well?"
"I failed."
The black robe lowered her head.
"Even you failed?" The Hall Master of Shadow Hall furrowed his brow tightly. "If the first one who went to kill Long Chen failed because he was too weak, and now you’ve failed as well, then it means that this Long Chen is no ordinary man and cannot be measured by common standards."
"Hall Master, are you considering giving up on this mission?"
The black robe asked in a heavy voice.
"Giving up is out of the question; we cannot tarnish the reputation of Shadow Hall," the Hall Master said sternly. "However, we will need to ask the Nangong Family for more money and then, at all costs and by any means, make killing Long Chen our ultimate goal."
"Hall Master," said the subordinate, "I believe that normal methods will hardly succeed in killing Long Chen, as he is too vigilant and his combat power is fearsomely strong, not inferior to you or me."
"What do you mean by ’unconventional methods’?" the Hall Master asked.
"Wait for the day he goes home, when it’s quiet at night, and then flatten his house with explosives. After that, go in and finish him off. It will definitely work," the black robe said seriously.
Upon hearing this, the Hall Master laughed out loud and declared, "Ha! What a brilliant plan. No matter how exceptional his Martial Arts may be, if we flatten his house, I refuse to believe he can come out unscathed. Even if he survives, just finish him off with a knife; it will be easy to kill him.
Heh, as I’ve always said, there’s no end to our methods when it comes to the people Shadow Hall wants to kill."
"Mm."
The black robe nodded slightly.
"Then, this matter is still yours to resolve."
"Yes."
The black robe nodded solemnly.
"Go on now, I’m waiting for your good news. If you complete this mission, your reward will be doubled," said the Hall Master as he waved his hand.
"The good news and the doubled rewards, I’m afraid, you’ll both be waiting in vain."
At this moment, Long Chen suddenly walked in through the door.
The black robe and the Hall Master looked up and saw Long Chen, their expressions dramatically changing.
Then, the Hall Master became furious: "Black robe, you’ve betrayed Shadow Hall! Do you know what happens to traitors?"
"Hall Master, it wasn’t me who brought him in; he must have tracked me. I didn’t notice," said the black robe through gritted teeth.
She suddenly put everything together and stared fiercely at Long Chen, demanding in a deep voice, "I get it now. Back in the park, you could have suppressed me or killed me, but instead, you pretended to be overpowered by me, then showed just a bit of your true strength to chase me away, all so you could use me to locate Shadow Hall’s base in Qianzhou, right?"
"Not too stupid," replied Long Chen lightly.
