Chapter 18: Revenge Plan

Derek’s POV

"Mother, what is the meaning of this!" I demanded as soon as I set eyes on her. Calling her had not been enough as I had to rush down to her salon.

Some men in uniforms were carrying her stuff and throwing them outside. I saw my mother crying and yelling curses at the worker, my sister, Desdra, trying to control her. I was so angry at the scenery that I dragged one of the workers by his collar to gain his attention. He looked shocked but because of his buffy physique, he easily pulled free from me.

"Hey man! What is wrong with you?" He screamed out in defense.

"Whatever! Next time, you guys will be patient enough before acting this reckless!" I shouted back, proudly showing my anger.

He sighed, then began to explain to me as if he was already tired from saying that too often. "Look, this isn’t our fault. We have a boss we work for, and she said you’ve pissed her off so we need to kick you guys out. If you’re angry, don’t channel that anger at us."

"What does that even mean? Who the hell is your boss!" I raged out, but the worker had already disappeared. "Mother, kindly recap what happened to me because I’m so fucking confused right now!"

"Honestly, the story isn’t adding up." Desdra frowned. It seemed like she must had been asking my mother the same thing since. "What does Tara have to do with any of this?"

I didn’t hear her well. "Tara? She came here??"

My mother looked shaken for some reason. Alice Marisol looked all frightened up like this?? Now I was getting worried. I got closer to her.

"Mother, what happened!? This is serious. We need details." I pressed on.

"I--I went to the, um, supermarket. Then I was that bitch Tara! I didn’t know she was close to the manager. Derek, we have to sue that supermarket and make them pay for what they did to me!" She said bitterly.

"So you’re telling me you got kicked out because of Tara??" Desdra rolled her eyes, finding it hard to believe.

"But then, why is the agent here kicking you out right now as well? It’s so weird because we just paid for your rent!" I added,

"Exactly. I told the agent and he said my money will be refunded to me. I might have seen an alert by now, I’m not even sure." My mother said. She sat down by the wall side on the floor, completely devoid of any shame at all.

"Could it be her...?" She mumbled. Desdra went over to stand by her side.

"What do you mean?" She asked.

A strange laughter escaped my mother’s lips. "No, it can’t be possible. It’s just that Tara threatened me. That poor brat threatened me. Can you believe?? She said I would regret it. That’s impossible, right?"

Was it?

Tara was now powerful than I could ever imagine! Just finding out she was heading mr. Smith law firm is more than enough proof for that.

"What nonsense are you spewing, mom? Tara couldn’t possibly have done this. You should know, right Derek?" Desdra said.

I swallowed. Tara wasn’t the same poor innocent woman they thought she was years ago. "That’s enough. I’ll handle this, alright?" I said to both of them. "I’ll handle this. I just wish you hadn’t become the center of attraction now, it’s slightly embarrassing. I keep getting calls and emails of business partners and shareholders, asking if they could still trust in us. If this escalates, we will really be done for!"

"Relax, I’m sure you can fix this." Desdra said nonchalantly. She was going through her phone when she screeched out all of a sudden.

"What is it?" My mother asked before I could.

Desdra’s eyes were bulged out, glaring in shock. "It’s Tara. Oh my goodness, mother. Derek is such a pussy!"

This brought a frown to my face. "What’s that supposed to mean now?" Then I saw it. She flashed her phone to me, showing me the image. It was a picture of Tara and I taken on the day we signed our partnership deal. The first time I’d seen her since seven years...

"I can explain--"

"--explain what? What is he talking about?" My mother frowned as she asked. Desdra leaned forward and began explaining to my mother. She screamed out as soon as she g0t the details. "So Tara is rich now?? But how?!"

"I didn’t want to tell you yet, okay? Until I have more details. I don’t trust her. And I wanted to make sure--"

"--when were you going to tell us, huh?" Desdra cut me off. "She’s your fucking new partner. How can you keep that from us!"

"I was going to, okay? Now stop yelling at me. See you thinking she’s involved in this??" I tried to change the subject, but Desdra was more stubborn than I remembered.

"Even if you didn’t know before, when you found out, why did you end up signing the deal regardless??" She pressed on. My mother decided to take her side too.

"That’s right! Why didn’t you bother to tell us at all? You let that brat look down on me and mock me like that!"

"Why didn’t I?" I was already boiling on the inside as it was. "Dad is dead. Guess what he left for us? Pain, and a of debts! And I’m the one working my ass off trying to make the best of the company. What exactly are you doing, sis? Or you, mom? How much is your dumb salon generating anyway??"

This kept everyone quiet for a while. Desdra managed a small restaurant in town and earned just a little. She was mostly spending her time as a social media influencer, one who was still struggling anyway. I was the only one dealing with the family’s business while they relaxed and spent lavishly.

I try to sound more uplifting because being the weak women that they were, they always complained of me being too strict and mean.

"Okay, I understand why you’re both mad. But I was desperate, okay? I will fix this, I will."

"Don’t worry. I’ll fix it." Desdra said. "What? Why is everyone looking at me like that??"

"I know you’re influential and all, but I dunno..." My mother was the one that responded. Desdra always thought she was influential until she caused a scene and embarrassed us or caused trouble, where I had to be the one to save her.

"It’s fine. There’s this house I’ve joined recently, they will handle this. I’ll make Tara pay for this embarrassment. I can even close her company shut--"

I had to stop her there. "Listen, Tara and I are partners now. I don’t want you to do anything that can hurt our company too."

"No, it’s fine. I just need to call someone, and he’ll deal with Tara--"

"Sis, don’t do anything stupid. Mother has down enough, I can’t have you humiliating the company too, okay?? I’ll leave now. Mother, you get your stuff and go too. Call some help and let them carry the rest of the--"

"Why are you defending her? Suddenly you’re acting like you’ve forgotten everything Tara has done to us! To you." Desdra insisted.

My mother’s gaze looked pressuring, like she too was about to say the same thing. I didn’t know when I began to blurt out.

"Because she might be with my child, okay?" Their expressions forced me to continue. I went on about how I saw Tara with a little kid who looked just like me.

"That would be stupid. Tara wouldn’t hide your kid from you?? Maybe she just married a rich man who gave her all of this wealth."

I wanted to reply to Desdra that Tara was the rich man herself and didn’t need anyone! With her being the owner of A&A Enterprise, that could only mean she was a rich woman already. But I said nothing.

"Don’t worry, once we find out that she truly has your kid and is hiding him, we’ll make her pay. Then you can take the child while we punish Tara. I hate that girl for so many reasons, and now she’s a liar too??"

"Relax, mother." Desdra said. "We don’t even know if Derek is just lying because Tara now looks hotter and he wants her back."

"That is very stupid. Such a stupid thing to say!" I quickly cut off that thought. "I’m married to Melissa, and I love her, okay? I don’t feel anything for Tara anymore."

Desdra shrugged as if she didn’t believe me. Did I even believe me too?? Tara had become more beautiful, I couldn’t deny that. And she is so rich now, I wouldn’t even have to worry about any financial problem. Unlike Melissa who just feeds off of me with her Mexican child. But still, Tara deserves to suffer for what she had done, disrespecting me like this? Leaving for seven years without my consent!?

I would make her pay, and until I see her kneeling and begging for my love and affection like before, I won’t spare her at all. I was still lost in thoughts when my phone beeped and a message came through.

"What!" I couldn’t believe my eyes. I quickly move away from my sister and mother in order not to get them worried. Then I read the message all over again. "So this Hernandez family is finally suing me to court?? What the hell! I’m in big trouble."
