Chapter 76: Chapter 74: Him

Just when the entire upper echelon of the High Elves was in a state of extreme commotion due to the "return of the Silver Whelpling Saphistouin" and the "resurrection of an ennobled general" affair, David and his companions, who should have been caught by the Elven messengers long ago, hadn’t been disturbed by anyone on their journey and had fallen into an eerie silence.

This was because when the news first broke that a Silver Whelpling had been found by shipwrecked Elf crew members, His Majesty Elf King Ailiando immediately gave his personal approval for the message to be urgently delivered to all the named Silver Dragon clans.

As a result, the Silver Dragons, who should have cared most deeply for their offspring, all uniformly returned a similar message: No such dragon, and no young dragons have gone missing or run away recently.

These replies reportedly made Elf King Ailiando burst out laughing on the spot and caused the faces of the navy officers to darken! Zenasasania! Damn it! After all that fuss, it turned out to be some unclaimed wild whelp! Then why the hell did you make such a big fuss in the first place! Now they had no good way to clean up the mess!

However, even a "wild Silver Dragon" would still attract the attention of the Silver Dragons, as long as it was a whelpling.

After the High Elves relayed this situation again, a day later, Dragon Island also promptly responded: A letter has been sent to a certain Silver Dragon in Dewensen on the New Continent to handle this matter.

Once this message was officially confirmed, the High Elves breathed a collective sigh of relief. Without the claim of a Silver Dragon clan, the diplomatic strategic value of this Silver Whelpling was not as high as they had initially thought. So there was no need to make such a spectacle and repeatedly slap their own faces.

With the main problem resolved, the matter of "General Ahmed, who had come back from the dead and found the Silver Whelpling," was also easily dealt with. Since there was no need for a grandiose ceremonial welcome parade this time, Ahmed’s situation could be handled quietly.

According to the opinion reluctantly proposed by the Port Governor, who had been pushed forward, the authority to handle this matter could be directly returned to the Lord of Silver Wheel. After all, this mess had originally emerged because the Lord of Silver Wheel had stirred up trouble in the name of his private army, without any military orders. And Ahmed was the man’s nephew. Now that there was an opportunity to let the Lord of Silver Wheel clean up his own mess, it was expected that he wouldn’t refuse.

Thus, such a clamorous, farcical incident gradually subsided as the High Elves collectively endured the humiliation in silence. It became just another subject of mirth over tea and dinner, a daily entertainment for these long-lived beings.

Only a letter from Dragon Island, carried in the beak of a magical Albatross, arrived at the Hall of Justice in Saeolus City one and a half weeks later.

「On the same day.」

「Outside Saeolus City, in the Silver Wheel territory.」

The carriage carrying David, the fake Silver Dragon, and his companions finally arrived at this city-state—whose history was as long as that of the capital, Dewensen—after an uninterrupted relay of horse changes along the way.

Since David, the young dragon, had shown no intention of hiding or disguising himself, he spent the whole journey lying on the wooden railing at the back of the carriage. Curious as a big cat, he gazed at the scenery, wholly unlike that of the Old Continent. The rear carriage curtains hung over his head like a middle-parted silver wig, his large dragon head sticking out, scaring many Elf passersby and causing a commotion.

Seeing that David was completely unconcerned about exposing his identity, the Barbarian, who was extremely curious about the Old Continent, and his Winter Wolf immediately joined the sightseeing group. Later on, when it seemed that indeed no High Elves were in pursuit, the two Drow also popped their heads out to join in the excitement.

They were then stopped by vigilant City Guards, who reacted as if facing a great enemy. Ahmed, thoroughly exasperated, had no choice but to get out of the carriage to explain; his dark face almost caused him to be mistaken for a third Drow.

In the end, it was David, the impostor Silver Dragon, who used his old trick, claiming they were all followers charmed by him, which allowed them to enter the ancient city of Saeolus.

After the mix-up, David, not wanting to waste more time, shrank his form and retreated into the carriage. He only re-emerged when they approached the Hall of Justice in a desolate corner of the ancient city, taking the lead to jump out of the crowded carriage.

What surprised David somewhat was that there were no believers or priests guarding the outside of the Hall of Justice. It was completely open for the crowd to enter and leave at will. Among the crowd were wealthy individuals in expensive spider silk robes and lower-class Elf civilians who seemed to have but a few copper coins. Yet, no incidents occurred where wealthy individuals openly scorned sharing space with the commoners.

Elves of different classes seemed to get along harmoniously within the small Hall of Justice, only to separate again once they left its doors, their paths diverging like their starkly different destinies.

Inside the grand Temple, a tall High Elf Priest, dressed in an elegant, pristine white robe, stood quietly in the center, a gentle hand resting atop the heads of the believers. As he whispered his prayers, a shaft of light pierced through a gap in the volcanic ash clouds, shining upon him through the semi-transparent, colored stained glass above the Temple, resembling a sacred healing glow.

The Elf’s fair skin had a hint of light purple. He had long, emerald hair cascading down, deep eyes as profound as the sea, and a noble yet gentle beauty etched in his features. Around his pale neck hung a necklace made of moonstones, with a sapphire, shaped like a dragon’s eye, set in the center.

This High Elf Priest was so strikingly beautiful that David was captivated the moment he laid eyes on him upon entering.

David was puzzled. He didn’t consider himself a Red Dragon who couldn’t resist any female he saw, especially since it wasn’t even mating season for him yet! And the object of his interest was a High Elf, of all things.

He even deliberately checked his mind to see if he had been affected by any charm spells. But then he reasoned, this was the Hall of Justice, not Shendilaville, the homeland of the Succubi. To be charmed upon entering would be an outright slap in the face of Tyr, the God of Justice!

Therefore, David, being a Red Dragon, quickly changed his mind. High Elf or not, dragons all possess an appreciation for beauty. Since his body instinctively favored this one, there was no point in hiding it. He boldly and openly scrutinized the priest whom his draconic senses found aesthetically pleasing.

At the same time, he thought to himself that in the future, once he became powerful, he, as an Evil Dragon, could certainly indulge in kidnapping beauties. He didn’t need any princess; he would just take this seemingly capable High Elf priest back with him. Having him listen to *my* pronouncements every day would be a refined pleasure indeed.

However, after looking around for a while, he didn’t see any other priests in the Temple and immediately had a bad feeling.

Because whether it was the Drow or Ahmed the Elf, they always referred to this priest named Attilicia as ’he.’

’He’?
