Chapter 542: Chapter 542: The Day of the Fashion Show (3)_1
"Auntie, I really don’t like staying up there, my mouth is about to freeze from all the smiling. Anyway, I don’t care anymore, my task is now finished, and as for interviews and all that, I’m out," Situ Xin pushed the bouquet of flowers into Lu Juan’s arms and pouted cutely at her, trying to shirk responsibility.
"Hey, Baby, you can’t just bail on me halfway through. Let me tell you," Lu Juan was getting ready to put in some effort to convince Situ Xin today, no matter what. However, before she could start, Situ Xin’s cell phone ringtone interrupted her.
"Ah, Auntie, wait for me for a sec, I’ve got a call to answer. The people behind me, I’m leaving them to you." With that said, Situ Xin pulled the buzzing phone from her pocket, waved it in front of Lu Juan, and turned to leave.
Lu Juan was left behind, not having had the chance to stop Situ Xin, and faced the flood of reporters rushing towards her.
"Over there, Situ Xin is over there!" Someone shouted, and a swarm of reporters surged towards Lu Juan. But Situ Xin’s figure had already disappeared backstage.
Staring down the empty corridor where Situ Xin had vanished, Lu Juan cursed under her breath, "That girl, once I catch her, she’ll see how I deal with her." This made Yu Shiyin, who was standing by and overheard Lu Juan’s muttering, roll her eyes ungracefully. She knew all too well the extent of Lu Juan’s doting on Situ Xin—it was clear not just in the Loo Family, but in the entire Situ Family’s coddling of her. So, Shiyin didn’t believe a word of Lu Juan’s threat to give Situ Xin a good lesson. In fact, when faced with Situ Xin, Lu Juan wouldn’t even be able to harshly scold her, let alone punish her.
Lu Juan was unaware of the thoughts racing through Shiyin’s mind because of her words. Now, she had to deal with the mess Situ Xin had left behind. "Dear reporters, I’m very sorry, our ’Xin’ Clothing Company’s chief designer, Miss Situ Xin, has some urgent matters and had to leave earlier. If you have any questions, you can ask me, I can answer on her behalf."
"Who are you?" One of the reporters asked, noticing Lu Juan’s attire and refined demeanor, and didn’t dare to make a scene, simply raising the question.
"I’m the president of ’Xin’ Clothing Company, so I have the authority to answer questions regarding our chief designer on her behalf," Lu Juan replied, maintaining an elegant smile.
The group of reporters, though still somewhat unwilling to accept the fact that they couldn’t interview the designer, quickly realized they had no other choice as they saw no sign of the designer backstage. After weighing their options, they decided it would be more beneficial to stay and interview the president of ’Xin’ Clothing Company rather than return with no news at all. So after some deliberation, they sensibly remained and began to interview Lu Juan.
Meanwhile, Situ Xin had already picked up her phone and was in Xiao Muli’s car, leaving the fashion show venue.
Having lived with Situ Xin for so many years, Xiao Muli was well-attuned to her thoughts. As soon as she had bowed and turned away from the runway, he knew exactly what was on her mind. Before anyone else could react, he left the audience and waited at the backstage exit.
Indeed, it wasn’t long before he saw Situ Xin on the phone, walking out from the backstage exit.
"Xiang Yang, your timing couldn’t be more perfect," said Situ Xin, understanding that Xiang Yang’s call must be about the mission. Otherwise, given that Xiang Yang and the others knew the purpose of her trip to BL, they wouldn’t have called and disrupted her.
Situ Xin continued her phone call as she walked out from the backstage exit. She was surprised to see Xiao Muli leaning against his sports car and asked him with her eyes, "What are you doing here?"
Xiao Muli simply smiled in response to Situ Xin’s question without answering. He straightened up, opened the passenger door, and gestured for Situ Xin to get in.
Situ Xin wasn’t one to dwell on a question if it was ignored, so since Xiao Muli didn’t answer, she didn’t pursue it further. Besides, she was still on the call with Xiang Yang. She obediently got into the passenger seat of the car.
"Leader, I haven’t disturbed you at work, have I?" Hearing Situ Xin’s words, Xiang Yang instinctively worried that he might have disturbed her. So, when he spoke, his tone was very cautious.
"No, the fashion show had just ended, so your call didn’t disturb me at all. In fact, you’ve helped me a great deal. By the way, why did you call?" As the car slowly drove away from the venue, Situ Xin peered out the window to see some indefatigable reporters frantically running out of the show, looking around. She couldn’t help feeling relieved; it was good that she had made a quick escape, or she would have been tormented by the reporters again.
"Good, I didn’t disturb you then," Xiang Yang sighed in relief. He definitely didn’t want to be the reason for Situ Xin to put him through grueling training. Just the thought of Situ Xin’s "training sessions," which were more like beatings, made Xiang Yang involuntarily tense up. "Leader, Mu Li and the team have changed their mission location," he informed her.
"Oh? Changed location? Moved to where?" Situ Xin was slightly surprised by the sudden change in mission venue. This mission was related to the government of Country M, so when Xiang Yang mentioned a change of location, Situ Xin’s mind began to race, thinking what could have possibly gone awry and where the mission could have been transferred to.
"BL. We’ve just received news that our target has left Country M for BL," Xiang Yang said soberly, talking business.
"The target went to BL, huh? What about the documents we’re looking for?" Situ Xin’s eyebrows furrowed upon hearing Xiang Yang’s words. With the mission’s unexpected turn, their previous arrangements would have to be reconsidered and all the preparatory work they had done might be for naught.
"Based on our earlier investigations, the target is very cautious and carries a password-protected case everywhere, taking some important items with him at all times. According to the information we have gathered, the documents we seek should also be with him," Xiang Yang explained as he looked at the investigation data on his desk. He wasn’t part of the field team for this mission, his role was to provide strategies and plans, as requested by Situ Xin.
