Chapter 316: Chapter 316: A Disguised Matchmaking Banquet (1)_1
He looked at the smile on Situ Xin’s face and the mischievous spark in her eyes. Handing the documents to his secretary, he stood up and walked over to Situ Xin, reaching out to instinctively pat her head. But before his hand could touch her hair, Situ Xin stopped him, "Stop, my hairstyle’s done today, and if you mess it up, I might have to redo it." Situ Xin shuddered at the thought of having to be tormented by the hairstylist again. She warned Xiao Muli, "Brother Muli, you’re not allowed to touch my hair tonight; I don’t want to go through that ordeal again."
Xiao Muli looked at Situ Xin protectively clutching her hair away from his reach, and couldn’t help but smile.
"Xiao Xin, is your hairstyle ready?" Old Master Xiao noticed that the time for the banquet was approaching, yet Situ Xin and Xiao Muli were still not ready and called out to them.
"Grandpa Xiao, it’s ready," Situ Xin said as she pulled at her dress and walked towards the door. Although she wasn’t very adept at walking in high heels, this did not defeat her. After an initial slight wobble when she put on the heels, she stood steady, which made Xiao Muli breathe a sigh of relief.
Old Master Xiao’s eyes lit up when he saw Situ Xin, and he couldn’t help but praise with a smile, "Our Xiao Xin is truly beautiful today."
Situ Xin gladly accepted Old Master Xiao’s compliments. Even with magic to make her appearance less stunning, she was still incredibly attractive. She did not need to mention the rate at which heads turned when she walked past.
Even though Situ Xin was still young and not fully grown up, she was already the recognized beauty of their school. Even if the other girls at school envied her in their hearts, they had to admit it.
This time, the so-called celebration for Xiao Muli ascending to the position of Family Head was, in reality, an undercover matchmaking banquet. It was not held at the Xiao Family Ancestral House but instead at the most famous five-star hotel located in the Xiao Family’s area.
As the vehicle carrying Situ Xin, Xiao Muli, and Old Master Xiao arrived at the hotel, a doorman promptly came to open the door for them.
The three of them arrived exactly when the invitation indicated, which was actually what the people from the Xiao Family expected since Xiao Muli, as the host of the banquet, should have arrived earlier. However, they also knew that this banquet had already displeased the newly appointed Family Head, Xiao Muli, so they dared not provoke him further.
Meanwhile, the Xiao Family members anxiously arrived at the hotel earlier, waiting downstairs with their wives and children.
When they spotted the number plate exclusive to Patriarch Xiao’s vehicle, they forced smiles and hurriedly approached to greet them.
Xiao Muli alighted from the car and, like a gentleman, extended his hand, waiting for Situ Xin to step out.
The members of the Xiao Family arrived just in time to see Situ Xin emerge from the vehicle, placing her hand in Xiao Muli’s.
The few men were stunned. They knew that Situ Xin was a distinguished guest staying with the Xiao Family, and though they had their designs, they didn’t dare to show it—not out of fear of the new Family Head, Xiao Muli, but because they were apprehensive of Situ Xin.
Situ Xin’s debut that day had left too fierce an impression on them; even now, they could almost hear Xiao Yongxin’s miserable screams.
What they had not expected was that Xiao Muli would bring Situ Xin to the banquet. But their astonishment turned to shock when they saw Baibai, the large tiger, follow Situ Xin out of the car.
They had never seen a tiger at a banquet before.
Fortunately, the vehicle prepared by the Xiao Family was not an ordinary sedan but an extended Mercedes-Benz that could accommodate the formidable Baibai.
The expression on the Xiao Family members’ faces did not escape the notice of Situ Xin and Xiao Muli, who pretended they hadn’t seen anything.
"Xiao Muli, Old Master Xiao, you’ve arrived, please come in. The banquet is about to start," greeted one middle-aged man, who approached Xiao Muli and Situ Xin. He was from a collateral branch of the Xiao Family, the son of Old Master Xiao’s half-brother, Xiao Yongjie.
If it hadn’t been for Xiao Muli’s emergence, Xiao Lia’s most likely successor, apart from Xiao Li, would have been Xiao Yongjie’s son.
After Xiao Muli took the position of Patriarch Xiao, Xiao Yongjie felt resentment but, due to the power backing Xiao Muli, he had to suppress it.
As they walked, Xiao Yongjie said to Xiao Muli, "You were not around the Xiao Family before, Muli. You’re not familiar with the aristocratic families associated with us. They’re all here this time," despite Xiao Yongjie’s elder-like demeanor, Xiao Muli frowned slightly. In his heart, he did not regard Xiao Yongjie highly. Xiao Yongjie, however, seemed oblivious to Xiao Muli’s impatience, or perhaps he chose to ignore it. He continued, "For instance, the Wenren Family head is here. By the way, the Wenren Family has a young lady around your age. You two should have a good talk and get acquainted."
Hearing the man’s words, Situ Xin couldn’t help but stick out her tongue on the side. He was being too direct, almost telling Xiao Muli outright, "I’ve found you a match, the young lady from the Wenren Family."
After Xiao Muli heard the man, his face, which had been lightened by Situ Xin’s presence, darkened instantly. How could he not know that the Wenren Family was related to Xiao Yongjie? His mother came from the Wenren Family. The little scheme Xiao Yongjie was playing was loud and clear.
The others, not wanting to be outdone by Xiao Yongxin, quickly stepped forward and began suggesting to Xiao Muli how wonderful various other families’ daughters were.
Xiao Muli grew increasingly sullen, much to Situ Xin’s delight. She found the scene hilariously reminiscent of matchmaking.
As they arrived at the banquet hall, Xiao Muli took Situ Xin’s hand, having not said a word. Situ Xin, for her part, was discovering that women weren’t the only ones capable of incessant chatter. Luckily, Old Master Xiao had been drawn away earlier by his past affairs; otherwise, he wouldn’t have allowed these people to freely set up blind dates for his grandson.
