Chapter 314: Chapter 314 Making Pastries (2)_1

After finishing the preparations, Situ Xin sent one plate of pastries meant for Old Master Xiao to the servant, asking them to take it downstairs to deliver to him. As for Xiao Muli’s portion, Situ Xin still planned to deliver it herself. Today at noon when Xiao Muli returned home for lunch, he was in a visibly bad mood.

When he first entered the room, his face was still flushed with anger. The few followers behind him didn’t even dare to breathe too loudly. It was only after seeing Situ Xin and Old Master Xiao that the rage on Xiao Muli’s face gradually dissipated.

Although Situ Xin had decided not to interfere with the Xiao Family’s affairs after Xiao Muli accepted the position of Family Head, she had the members of Dragon Society and The Dark Division withdrawn. Xiao Muli would only grow by slowly tempering himself in the various affairs of the Xiao Family.

However, Situ Xin was still a little worried about Xiao Muli. She could tell he was seriously agitated at noon. "Baibai, stop eating and come with me," said Situ Xin as she carried a plate of pastries, calling Baibai to follow her to the front yard to Xiao Muli’s study.

Since Xiao Muli became the Family Head, he had instructed everyone not to stop Old Master Xiao or Situ Xin from coming to his study. As a result, when Situ Xin arrived at Xiao Muli’s study, the bodyguards waiting outside greeted her respectfully, "Miss Situ."

Situ Xin nodded in acknowledgment and proceeded to Xiao Muli’s study. Xiao Muli’s bodyguards glanced at his study, then back at Situ Xin, their mouths opened as if they wanted to say something, but in the end, they remained silent.

Situ Xin was just three meters away from the study when she heard Xiao Muli’s angry voice from inside, "A bunch of idiots—they think I don’t know their petty schemes. Very well, the position of Family Head isn’t settled, and they want to push a woman at me to control me," he continued after a pause, "Humph, do they think I’m someone that can be controlled by any woman?"

Got it. Situ Xin understood what was happening. The other members of the Xiao Family saw a trusted Family Head ascend but the position of the Family Matriarch was still vacant. They had no hope for the position of Family Head, but by pushing a woman related to them onto Xiao Muli, she could become the matriarch of the Xiao Family.

"What should we do, master?" Seeing Xiao Muli so angry, his few attendants were too frightened to breathe, fearing that they might become the target of his outburst. However, Xiao Muli’s secretary, noticing the invitation—not really an invitation but more a card for a ball organized by other members of the Xiao Family to celebrate the new Family Head’s appointment—in his hand.

They made it sound grand—a ball to celebrate the new Family Head’s appointment—but everyone knew the real intention. This was nothing but a disguised matchmaking party. The attendants watching their master thought the Xiao Family members were being too hasty. Their master was still so young, and they were already trying to find him a wife. They couldn’t help but mutter to themselves, "Do they think we’re still in ancient times?"

"Brother Muli, I’ve brought you some pastries," said Situ Xin, understanding the situation. Imagining Xiao Muli surrounded by a flock of flirty females made her smirk, especially with Xiao Muli wearing such a stern face.

"Xiao Xin is here," replied Xiao Muli, his previous anger vanishing upon hearing Situ Xin’s voice, causing his subordinates to marvel. It’s said that women’s faces change faster than flipping through a book, but it seemed their master was just as quick—if not quicker—in changing moods. "Why did you bring it yourself? Why not have someone carry it for you?" he asked, seeing the plate of pastries in Situ Xin’s hands, and quickly stood up to greet her.

"It’s not that far of a walk," replied Situ Xin, and then noticed the beautifully designed card in the secretary’s hand. "Brother Muli, what’s that?" she inquired.

Xiao Muli followed Situ Xin’s gaze and, upon seeing the card, his eyes flashed with annoyance, shooting a fierce glare at the secretary, who really should have hidden the card. Feeling his master’s eyes on him, the secretary shivered, debating whether to tuck away the card.

Before he could act, Xiao Muli spoke to Situ Xin, "Oh, that’s the invitation for the banquet."

Xiao Muli initially planned to brush off the matter lightly, and as to whether he would attend this thinly masked matchmaking banquet, he intended to consider it carefully. Even if he chose not to attend, he still had to settle the underlying issues effectively.

After all, he had just taken over the Xiao Family. There were some people he still had to show a certain degree of respect to. However, that respect had its limits—if they crossed Xiao Muli’s bottom line, he wouldn’t hesitate to act.

But Situ Xin had no intention of letting Xiao Muli off so easily. Moreover, when she saw the card, an idea crossed her mind. She was rather curious to see what the other Xiao Family members had planned.

Situ Xin was curious how the Xiao Family members would try to foist their favored girl onto Xiao Muli. She also wanted to see what Xiao Muli’s expression would be like then. Situ Xin couldn’t help but anticipate seeing different expressions on Xiao Muli’s icy face. "Brother Muli, will you attend this banquet? If you are, could you take Grandpa Xiao and me along?" she asked with a hint of mischief.

Xiao Muli was taken aback by Situ Xin’s words before regaining his composure. "Xiao Xin wants to attend the banquet?" Although Xiao Muli was averse to the banquet, if Situ Xin was interested in attending, he was willing to accommodate her request.

"Yes. Is that okay?" Situ Xin asked, batting her large eyes and staring unwaveringly at Xiao Muli. Xiao Muli was completely captivated by her deep, slightly playful gaze.
