Chapter 272: Chapter 272 The Decline of the Murong Family (2)_1
"Xiao Xin, thank you." Xiao Muli had never expected to hear words of support from Situ Xin; his heart surged with excitement upon hearing them. Fortunately, his facade was good, and the only change in his expression was a much softer look, nothing more.
Meanwhile, Situ Jin and Yu Qihao still wanted to say something, but at that moment, the class bell rang. They had to shut their mouths.
Time flew by. In the blink of an eye, half of the first semester of high school had passed. Situ Xin and his friends were now facing their first major test since entering high school—the mid-term exam.
Indeed, lately, every student in the class had become much more restrained, even the usual playful ones who disliked studying had started to hit the books. It was a last-minute rush to cram. Only Situ Xin and his group went on as usual, seemingly unfazed by the upcoming exam.
"Xiao Xin, how do I do this question? No matter how I try to solve it, I can’t get the right answer," Murong Wanyu, furrowing her brows and biting her pen, turned around with her workbook and asked.
Murong Wanyu’s quesiton prompted Situ Jin to interject with a "dunce" from the side.
Upon hearing Situ Jin’s remark, Murong Wanyu glared at him before turning back to Situ Xin, waiting for her explanation.
In recent times, whenever Murong Wanyu asked Situ Xin a question, Situ Jin would call her a "dunce." At first, Murong Wanyu would get infuriated and they would end up arguing, neglecting the original question. But gradually, Murong Wanyu learned to deal with it. Whenever Situ Jin spoke up, she would just roll her eyes at him and ignore him, waiting for Situ Xin to help her with the problem.
Situ Xin, finding her brother’s rare mischief amusing, thought to herself, "They really are a pair of happy foes."
In her past and present lives, Situ Xin had never had a single female friend. In her past life, it was simply impossible for her to have friends. And in this life, due to her past experiences, she didn’t even know how to make friends anymore. One could even say that the concept of "friends" was blurry to her, resulting in her also not having any friends in this lifetime.
Of course, Xia Yujie and the others didn’t fit into the concept of "friends" in Situ Xin’s heart. To her, Xia Yujie and his group were more like half-family, partners in this life.
And Murong Wanyu was the only female friend Situ Xin had in both her past and present lives.
Murong Wanyu was usually cheerful and lively, and she really liked Situ Xin. So, every time class ended and if there was nothing to do, she would turn around to chat with Situ Xin, even sharing her snacks with her sometimes.
Situ Xin had a good impression of her, and as time went by, they grew familiar with one another. Since Situ Xin had never had a female friend before, now finding someone she deemed worthy, Situ Jin and the others were quite happy to see their friendship flourish.
Though Situ Jin often teased Murong Wanyu, he did approve of her, which was why he acted that way. Otherwise, Situ Jin wouldn’t bother with her at all.
Taking the workbook Murong Wanyu handed over and scanning the question, Situ Xin picked up her pen and began to draw and write on the paper. As she explained, she asked Murong Wanyu, "Do you understand?" After finishing, she put down the pen and asked.
"Yes, I get it. Xiao Xin, you’re really amazing. I was totally confused when the teacher explained it, but after your explanation, it’s all clear to me," Murong Wanyu said, looking at Situ Xin with admiration as she held her workbook.
"Alright, stop looking at me like that; it’s creepy. Get started on solving the problems," Situ Xin said with a smile.
The mid-term exams weren’t a concern for Situ Xin and her friends at all—it was just another test, no different from daily practice to them.
"Xiao Xin, are you nervous?" On the first day back to normal classes after the mid-term exams, as soon as Situ Xin and her group entered the classroom, they could feel that today’s atmosphere was different from usual. Just as Situ Xin sat down, Murong Wanyu turned to her with a nervous face and asked.
"Nervous about what? Is there something happening today?" Situ Xin asked, puzzled. She had completely forgotten about the mid-term exams. No, it was more like she had never considered the mid-terms important in the first place.
"No way, Xiao Xin, don’t tell me you’ve forgotten that today’s the first day after mid-terms when the scores come out?" Murong Wanyu looked at Situ Xin as if she were an alien.
"I really did forget, but what does that have to do with being nervous?" Situ Xin had never felt nervous about her grades; she had only felt nervous about her family’s safety or when facing an opponent stronger than herself.
After hearing Situ Xin’s response, Murong Wanyu collapsed onto her desk. "Xiao Xin, you really are, really are..." She looked at Situ Xin, unable to finish her sentence.
"Hmph, you got into the elite class by a fluke last time. This time, I want to see what grades you’ll get," Murong Mengyao interjected while Situ Xin and Murong Wanyu were talking, looking at Murong Wanyu with disdain.
"Seems to me you didn’t get in by taking a test," Situ Xin replied, standing up for her friend Murong Wanyu, whom she had acknowledged as a friend; she wouldn’t just watch her get bullied in front of her. Moreover, what she said was the truth. Murong Wanyu’s scores had just made the cut-off to enter the elite class, but that was due to her own effort. Murong Mengyao, on the other hand, was one of the few who got in through backdoor dealings. "Before you talk about others, please think about yourself," Situ Xin said sternly.
Murong Mengyao was startled that Situ Xin would defend Murong Wanyu. She was aware of Situ Xin’s status, someone she dared not provoke.
Recently, every day Murong Mengyao saw Murong Wanyu hanging out with Situ Jin, Yu Qihao, and Xiao Muli—the princes of the school, according to the girls—and laughing with them, Murong Mengyao felt irritated.
She went home and complained to her father, Murong Tao, about Murong Wanyu’s shameless behavior tarnishing the Murong Family’s name. Murong Mengyao’s intention was to have her father relay this to Old Master Murong so he could reprimand Murong Wanyu for her.
