The raise of Maureen Smith and her Good Luck System -
Chapter 96: He wants to be better for her
Chapter 96: He wants to be better for her
Now, normally they don’t have Liam’s contact information.
However, before the start of training, Liam had come to their school on Thursday and given them his phone number, asking them to keep an eye on Maureen and call him immediately if anything happened.
Even the smallest issue warranted a call.
The special students were flabbergasted. Not many people in their class knew Liam’s phone number.
Having got it directly, they felt like they were one step closer to his inner circle.
Liam was having dinner with Grandfather William when he received the call.
He had a stern expression on his face. Looking at Liam’s short black hair, the old man found it particularly irritating.
Unable to bear with it, he threw his Spoon into his bowl agitatedly.
He snapped, "How many more days are you planning to bother me here? When exactly will you leave? Why did you suddenly decide to dye your hair?"
Instead of answering, Liam asked,
"When will you restore my privileges?"
After using his private plane to return from san Diego City, Grandfather Williams had frozen his account.
He was no longer able to command some people who used to be at his disposal. Currently, only Lawyer Daniel dared to disobey Grandfather Williams, secretly helping Liam.
"You want your privileges restored? Look at yourself, doing nonsensical things all day, causing trouble nonstop.
Your grades are at the bottom of your class, and you aren’t even bothering with the management course I arranged for you!"
At this, the old man’s anger started to boil over. He glanced around.
If there had been a suitable weapon at hand, he would have given this young man a good beating despite his old arms and legs.
"I’m stepping up," Liam suddenly declared. The old man’s tirade came to an abrupt halt. He looked incredulously at Liam, as did the several servants standing by.
Daniel, the lawyer who had stayed to dine at the same table, was also dumbstruck.
The air became still.
The evening grew dimmer and the dew was heavier.
Liam took a bite of rice without lifting his head, "I plan to start living a proper life now, so restore my privileges."
"Why?"
The old man couldn’t help blurting out.
Over the past five years, this lad had become quite the slacker, spending more time fishing and dozing off than attending school.
If it hadn’t been for the Williams family constantly donating to the school, the headmaster and principal would have expelled him from School A long ago for single-handedly dragging down the international class.
Moreover, Liam had not attended any of the various events where the Williams family needed his presence, be they charity dinners or bidding meetings.
Liam even stood his grandpa up at a shareholder meeting held for him last year.
Many were left waiting for him, their faces darkening when he didn’t show up, causing the talks with several overseas partners to fall through.
His indifferent and lazy attitude certainly undermined the old man’s plan for him to take up his inheritance.
The board members might not necessarily agree due to their fear of the Williams family’s future being ruined by him.
"And what else would be the cause?"
Liam asked, a smirk pulling at the edge of his lips, laughed mockingly,
"You’re sending Demon to our school, aren’t you? If I don’t regain my privileges, should I just sit back and watch him outshine me?"
"Is this all you aspire to?!"
The old man was so infuriated by these words that he almost had a surge in blood pressure, nearly having a hypertension attack on spot.
He rolled up his sleeves, grabbed the iron spoon, and swung at him across the table.
Liam immediately dropped his Spoon and agility dodged away.
Just then, he received a phone call.
Upon answering the call, his face changed, he didn’t even continue his meal, and sprinted out immediately.
Gasping for breath, the old man dropped the spoon and turned to ask the lawyer sitting next to him,
"Where is he going?"
The lawyer, Daniel, replied, "Most likely to find that young girl again."
"Liam’s grandpa plopped down onto the chair with his face not as grim as before.
He motioned to Daniel and his secretary, "Dig in everyone, it’s a feast in our house, have more."
The secretary, hearing the humming sound of the car leaving through the courtyard, couldn’t help but ask the old man,
"Is Liam serious this time?
Didn’t he used to not care about Demon?
Why did he suddenly get the idea to compete with Demon?"
In the past, the old man would force Liam to sign an agreement to pass his stocks over.
Liam didn’t bat an eyelid, and didn’t seem to
care much about how many benefits his illegitimate brother, Demon, had gained from the Williams family.
What happened all of a sudden? The old man snorted,
"This brat, probably didn’t want us to figure out what he was thinking.
He came to me to regain his authority not for Demon’s sake.
Rather, it’s for that woman..." Grandpa all of sudden asked Daniel, "What’s the name of that girl?"
"Maureen," Daniel hastily chimed in, "You’re not going to offer her a sum of money to keep her away from Liam, right——"
"What rubbish? You and Liam have been watching too much soap drama, eh?"
Grandpa couldn’t restrain his anger, "I was just asking."
Still muttering to himself, the old man said,
"Looking at it now, it seems her existence might be a good thing after all?"
Back then, the kidnapper was an enemy of the Williams family in business, driven to bankruptcy by the Williams family, and the kidnapping was a kind of reprisal.
However, Liam, who survived this ordeal alone, would inevitably face the blame of everyone in the Williams family.
Back then, he gave the thirteen-year-old Liam a choice.
To run away, or to confront it head-on.
Either he could take the seemingly inexhaustible wealth, go abroad, stay away from the Williams family, so that he would never be talked about behind his back, needn’t withstand harsh words from those who remain, nor have people see his brother and father in him.
Or he could stay and take up his part of the responsibility.
It might take a long time for everyone else to mend their wounds.
During the process, he might be hurt by his mother’s and other relatives’ healing process.
Back then, Grandpa thought if Liam chose the first option, he might finally have to pass his fortune to someone else.
Unexpectedly, the only thirteen-year-old Liam chose to stay.
It wasn’t that he couldn’t escape, but he chose to shoulder and endure, becoming an emotional outlet in his own way, easing everyone’s wounds from that year.
Few people have the courage to make such a decision, particularly at his age of thirteen, so
the old man decided then, it would be him.
However, the stay-at-home Liam also faced a problem.
He couldn’t be too successful or have too good a life.
Living too well, laughing too happily would be unfair to the memory of those who died because of him.
Even if he got through the blame from others, he wouldn’t get over that hurdle in his heart.
So, over the past five years, he self-isolated, changed his hair color, completely transformed his personality, living like a waste in a sort of self-punishment.
He didn’t advance, didn’t get involved in family business, nor would he, like other rich kids, casually buy a yacht.
The biggest expense he had made was even just for that plane last time.
He was just living an ordinary high school life.
But now, the old man heard him say in person: "I intend to seriously improve myself." Surprisingly, the old man was filled with mixed emotions.
When someone cares enough about something, they would want to live fully.
When he found someone he wanted to fight for, he would step out of his past darkness.
The girl next to him, perhaps, is the one who could pull him out.
What dragged him out was not her hand, but his heart’s overwhelming desire for her.
Because he likes her and wants to be liked by her, so he wants to be better.
Therefore, he began to struggle, wanting to get himself out of that bog that trapped him.
The old man laughed quietly to himself, his face filled with wrinkles spreading out:
"What’s this young punk thinking about... What are you standing around for, everyone, eat."
With a good mood, the old man served himself several spoons full of food, and appetite was so good that he finished off two plates.
And the people at the table looked at each other in bewilderment, not understanding why?
