The raise of Maureen Smith and her Good Luck System -
Chapter 95: Mareen’s Birthday
Chapter 95: Mareen’s Birthday
The training was taking place in a hotel near a university.
On the first day, the anxious Teacher Brown arranged the rooms and began to count the number of students and distribute examination papers.
The pace suddenly intensified. Maureen didn’t have time to think about anything else.
She was head-down in her work, working on the problems until eleven at night, taking breaks by listening to the lecture explanations.
A group of the smartest people gathered together, and the atmosphere changed noticeably.
When discussing theoretical issues, it felt like there was an invisible smoke of competition in the air.
Even meal times were rushed, resolved in just over ten minutes.
Maureen loved this pure atmosphere.
That is, until she went out to buy some snacks during the break in the afternoon and came back to find her pencil case, exam papers, and backpack all tossed into the trash."
For two seconds, Maureen suppressed her anger, her temples throbbing unrestrained, and calmly retrieved her backpack that Liam had given her from the red garbage can.
Inevitably, some unfinished milk, discarded banana peels, and spicy strip wrappers and such were in the trash can.
The papers and pencil case had been deliberately pulled out of her backpack and thrown in.
Now they were all covered in oil, completely unreadable. While only the bottom of the backpack was stained with dirty water, it was still dripping filth.
Maureen’s temper exploded in that instant. With two fingers holding her backpack, she coldly swept a glance over the people in the training classroom,
"Who did this?" There were only a few people in the training classroom.
Richard and his group had gone to the neighboring university to play basketball.
At this moment, there were only five girls and three boys left in the classroom.
Maureen’s gaze immediately shifted to Bianca. Bianca subconsciously stood up, hurriedly walking over to pass her tissues:
"Maureen, quickly wipe it, it might still be usable." It wasn’t Bianca.
Maureen assumed that Bianca wouldn’t resort to such lowly methods.
Moreover, Bianca wasn’t even there when she left. Holding the bag dripping with dirty water, she walked briskly over to confront the other few in the classroom, asking each one of them: "You? Or was it you?"
"No, no, no."
The three boys were all scared.
They never expected her to be so assertive, and two of the girls were instantly panicked.
Unable to bear it any longer, Maureen walked up to Noella and another girl in the class, Richard: "Was it you two?"
The oil dripping from the bag dropped onto Noella’s knee, prompting her to stand up angrily and slap her trousers: "Maureen, be careful! Do you know how much my pants cost?"
"So it was you."
Maureen shoved Noella aside, grabbed her bag from the desk basket, unzipped it, strode over to the trash bin and poured everything out.
Pen bags, notebooks, laptops and other items clattered into the bin, creating a series of thudding sounds.
The entire classroom fell into a deathly silence. Everyone held their breath.
Noella stood there as if she were a wooden chicken.
Once she came back to her senses, she shrieked and lunged over to snatch her stuff back: "Maureen!" In front of her, Maureen threw her bag into the bin as well.
"Did you take part in this too?"
Maureen turned her gaze to another girl in the Evergreen Class.
Seeing the girl was so frightened that she became stiff and avoided her gaze, Maureen directly walked over, picked up her backpack, and threw it into the trash can.
The second backpack hitting the trash can made no sound; Maureen even stepped on it. The entire classroom was stunned.
"Maureen, this is just too nasty of you.
Isn’t one backpack enough? Besides, was it your bag that fell on the ground? We thought it was garbage, so what’s wrong with throwing it in the trash can?"
Maureen coldly retorted, "So if you’re on the floor, and I think you’re garbage, can I throw you in the trash can too?"
"Come here." Saying so, Maureen rolled up her sleeves to grab that outspoken girl.
The girl was completely taken aback that Maureen, who seemed sweet on the surface, could be so fierce when angry—that she instantly recoiled towards the wall.
Maureen, with a calm face and anger suppressed inside, grabbed her by the wrist and dragged her towards the trash can.
As it was a matter between girls, the three boys just watched dumbstruck, feeling it was inappropriate for them to interfere.
The girl was so frightened that tears welled up in her eyes.
She desperately tried to hang onto the table, but she didn’t expect Maureen to use so much force that she overturned a whole row of tables.
The girl finally became scared to her bones: "Maureen, let go, I was wrong."
Maureen threw off her hand coldly, and she quickly grabbed her wrist that stung from the aggressiveness. Noella was shocked as she watched Maureen—in her memory, Maureen was not like this.
Previously when she and Ann visited Smith’s house, if they broke something of Maureen’s, Maureen would usually bear with it.
She never ever imagined that the current Maureen, because she has left Smith’s house and no longer cares about the gazes from the Smith’s family, will ensure that she gets even for the wrongs done to her.
She had once hoped that the Smith family would discipline those around Bianca, but that hope had been dashed.
Now, Maureen must learn to protect herself. She then walked toward Noella.
Noella swallowed nervously and took a step back, collapsing onto a chair.
"This is the first and last time," warned Maureen.
"If you continue to pull these petty stunts behind my back, be prepared for a hundredfold retaliation."
A female student from the perennial class who had her backpack thrown away by Maureen replied boldly,
"You got in by luck, there won’t be a next time.
Do you think you can make it to the finals? You surely won’t be part of the next comprehensive training."
Maureen stared at her, "Without me, do you think there would be you?
How about this time, whoever scores worse gets expelled?"
Everyone collectively gasped in shock. Is she playing for keeps???
Noella thought Maureen was way too arrogant. She did well in one exam and now she thinks she can make it to the finals???
Unable to contain her rage, Noella spat,
"I’ll bet with you, whoever gets a lower score leaves school! Let everyone witness this! Maureen, don’t be a sore loser and refuse to drop out!"
Bianca stood by looking as if she wanted to stop the confrontation but was unable to.
"Fine, I’ll take your bet."
Maureen looked at Noella, picked up a pen and paper from someone’s desk, swiftly wrote a line, and slammed it in front of Noella: "Sign it!"
Seething with rage, Noella signed her name. Richard and his group returned to see the scene unravel in the classroom, their faces changing rapidly.
The news of this incident soon reached their team leader, Teacher Brown.
Teacher Brown, naturally, punished both sides equally.
Although Noella and the others were the ones who started the fight, Maureen threw back twice as many schoolbags.
He reprimanded them harshly for disrupting training with their quarrels and urged them to focus more on studying.
Watching from outside, Richard couldn’t help but step in to explain to Teacher Brown.
Meanwhile, Maureen was still fixed on the schoolbag that had been dirty.
Today was her birthday; how unfortunate.
Seeing the chaos, the two special students from the international class quickly called Liam.
