The raise of Maureen Smith and her Good Luck System
Chapter 85: What just happened?

Chapter 85: What just happened?

Maureen looked at Liam once again, and he showed a displeased expression when she looked at him.

" Maureen was pretty sure that the reason for his low spirits these past few days might indeed have something to do with her.

"I’m utterly clueless,"

Maureen was quickly typing,

"After he got a cold, I even went to his house to give him medicine.

Was he angry because I visited his house without asking first, thereby intruding on his privacy?"

Josephine: "Hardly likely. Although I don’t know much about Liam, it seems he isn’t that kind of person.

He seems to quite care about you. Why don’t you try asking him?"

Maureen: "If I could get an answer by asking him, I wouldn’t be taking the risk of getting caught by the class teacher, texting you now."

Josephine strangely felt like she was advising a confused and upset boyfriend.

She shook her head quickly to dispel this weird idea.

Josephine gave some advice: "If something has happened that hurts his pride, something he couldn’t tell you, and if you care about this friendship, persist and find out the reason."

Of course, Maureen cared, who else in the world would charter a private plane for her just because she missed her grandmother.

She turned off her phone just as the school bell rang.

Liam silently stood up, wearing an expression that read ’leave me alone, I’m dead’, and began packing his bag, although there were no books in it.

He casually tossed his headphones and his collection of bottles and jars into his bag.

Maureen glanced at the vitamins he was taking.

She couldn’t understand the French on the bottles, but she planned to take a picture when she had the chance and look it up online later.

The school’s dismissal marked the beginning of the weekend.

She would not see Liam for two days.

However, the knot in her heart had not been untied.

Previously, Maureen wouldn’t have cared so much, but now not only did she care, but also some indistinguishable emotions were sprouting in her heart.

"Are you leaving now?"

Maureen asked. Liam lifted his eyelids, "Or should I stay here and let everyone see how thin I have become?"

"What on earth are you talking about?"

Maureen was thoroughly confused.

"Who said you are fat?" she objected, straining for the right words.

She was good at science but mediocre at the liberal arts.

After pondering for a while, she tried to console him,

"You are 6 feet tall, you appear slim in clothes and muscular without, you’re not fat."

Her attempt at consoling him was decidedly unconvincing.

Liam took his hand off hers and was about to walk away with a mere "oh" when Maureen blurted out,

"You can’t leave!" Perhaps her earnest tone caught everyone’s attention.

Niel and a group of students in the classroom all turned to look.

Liam’s Adam’s apple moved slightly as he lowered his gaze to look back.

Liam’s sight fell on her fair face, clearly seeing the concern in her expression.

The little bird inside Liam’s heart gave a flutter as a spark of hope reignited.

His expressions slightly softened, and he pulled down the corners of his mouth, asking in a softer tone,

"Why? Is there something else?"

Maureen choked on her words.

Her brain scrambled, and she carelessly flipped through the competition question booklet, pointing at one of the problems she couldn’t solve, "I can’t solve this question."

Liam was furious! So the reason she wanted him to stay was to help her solve the problem! Did she see him as some sort of tool, to be used as needed?!

In an instant, all sparks of hope turned into a biting cold wind.

Infuriated, Liam flung his school bag onto Niel’s desk, asking him and a few others to leave first.

Then, decisively, he pulled a chair with his foot, sat down, grabbed Maureen’s papers and pen, and started to solve the question with gusto.

It was then that Maureen was surprised to discover that his thought process was rapid, indeed very rapid.

That was not expected from a guy who always seemed to be sleeping.

Unable to resist, Maureen asked: "With such skills, why don’t you participate in the competition?"

Without batting an eyelid, Liam retorted,

"Would selling a gold medal for one hundred dollars even compare to the one-millionth of my wealth?"

Maureen: Sorry, I interrupted.

A few minutes later, the classroom was emptied except for two people.

Liam handed over some solved problems to Maureen, then he picked up his backpack and walked out, his face conveying an ’ignore me if I die’ look.

Maureen did not check the problems but hurriedly picked up her bag and followed him in small steps, "I have something to tell you.

Aunt Elizabeth sent us some special local products. There’s a portion for you. Come with me to pick it up."

"Didn’t she send any for anyone else?"

Liam glanced at her and asked coldly, "Like say, those friends from your training camp." He emphasized the phrase ’those friends’, his tone of voice biting.

Maureen: "No, she only sent for you and Drake— Niel, she said Niel doesn’t look good, so never mind him."

Maureen and Liam arrived at the dormitory building. Due to Maureen’s presence, the dormitory manager let Liam in.

After collecting the special produce, Maureen suddenly mentioned that a light bulb was out.

Despite the fact that Liam did not like her cheeky personality, he could not leave her in the dark.

So he moved a chair to the floor, climbed onto it, and went to replace the light bulb.

However, he found out that the light bulb was not only out, it was missing! Liam: "Liam said:

"I have to go buy a light bulb.

Wait for me here, I’ll go and come--"

Before he could finish his sentence, he saw Maureen accidentally dropped a glass of water.

The water scattered across the lower bunk bed, instantly soaking the entire quilt. Maureen jumped up in shock,

"Oh no, what should I do?

The quilt is wet. I can’t sleep now."

Liam suddenly had a hunch, his Adam’s apple bobbing lightly.

He tried his best to seem nonchalant, saying, "What can we do, why don’t we go to my house over the weekend?

After all---" Liam licked his lips, desperately trying to suppress the heat flooding uncontrollably to his ears.

He casually remarked,

"After all, I have plenty of rooms in my house."

No sooner had he finished speaking, than Little Facemask, with her head hanging low, heaved a few heavy sighs, and sighed, "That seems like the only choice then."

Liam: "..." ??? What just happened?

Did he misinterpret or was Little Facemask trying every means to stay with him?

Or was it his arrogance getting the best of him???
