The raise of Maureen Smith and her Good Luck System
Chapter 84: She never appeared again

Chapter 84: She never appeared again

Lately, Richard had also been deeply troubled.

The number of errors in his experiments had increased, and even when he played basketball, his mind was elsewhere.

Maureen had said in front of his teammates in the corridor that day that she no longer liked him, and true to her words, she had not sought him out anymore.

Not only had she not sought him, but she seemed to be deliberately avoiding him.

The person he used to see every day just vanished from his world.

At the beginning, Richard still held some secret hope while keeping a cold face, thinking that this was just another one of her ways to intentionally provoke him, maybe she was not sincere.

However, as the days went by, Richard gradually realized amidst his daily helplessness and anxiousness, Maureen...had truly walked away, and then stopped there.

She wouldn’t move any closer to his world again. Richard was not used to this.

How could he possibly be used to this?

Her figure was no longer on the sidelines when he played basketball.

Upon opening the door to the broadcasting room, he subconsciously thought she would be inside, prepared to greet her, but instead, he had to greet other girls.

He no longer encounters her in the library.

The computer science area where he usually spends his time, he thought Maureen would still appear there, so he made an effort to look unintentionally - however, she was not.

She never appeared again.

Although everything was out of his control, Richard was still trying hard to withstand the irritability brought by this discomfort.

If the experiment was done wrong, he would punish himself and do it again.

If he got distracted while reading literature, he would force himself to calm down.

He didn’t think he liked Maureen, all the abnormal psychology that appeared now was just some consequences brought about by the three words ’unusual’.

When he got used to Maureen not being by his side again, everything would be back on track.

This was what Richard thought.

But strangely, at Mrs. Smith’s birthday banquet, he still couldn’t resist picking the style that Maureen had said suited him best and then pretended to look casually into the crowd to see if Maureen had arrived.

Maureen didn’t come that day, later it was heard that she had broken off with her family.

When Maureen no longer appeared in his world, his information about her was severely lagging, he could only hear some gossip about her and Liam from others.

Richard began to discover other emotions brewing in his heart, it was not just discomfort, it was as if he felt - the same irritation when he saw a gold medal fall into other people’s hands when he was a kid.

After all, the classrooms of the two classes were on the same floor, and there were occasional brushes in the corridor.

Richard always looked straight ahead, catching Maureen out of the corner of his eye also not giving him another look.

Richard was dissatisfied, he thought Maureen was actually holding it in, after the two brushed past each other, Maureen should have turned her head back.

But when he couldn’t stand it and turned his head back. He realized.

Now looking back, he was the only one left. ...

If it was just unfamiliarity, then after more than a month, he should already be used to not having Maureen.

But why was he still unsettled? Was there something else?

Richard accepted an invitation from Elizabeth a few days ago to corroborate this idea.

He accompanied her to the zoo, where she was beaming with excitement, even wearing a skirt in the cold weather of ten degrees.

But after finishing all the date activities, Richard only felt a sense of disappointment.

He returned to the school laboratory early that evening.

Elizabeth wouldn’t do it, and it didn’t seem like anyone else would as well.

A horrifying supposition slowly emerged in Richard’s heart.

Could it be that he actually cared for Maureen? After sinking into gloom for several days, Richard asked Ethan a question in the lab with a stern look on his face,

"What would you think if I went after Maureen now?"

Ethan was almost frightened silly. Although he had recently observed Richard’s abnormal behavior and guessed that Richard might actually like Maureen, he never expected Richard to consider winning her back.

How big of a decision would that need? At least Maureen and his championship would have to be equally important.

"Are you serious?" Ethan was dumbstruck, but after collecting himself he said, "If you really can’t adapt, Lincoln, then just go win her back.

If it’s you, Maureen will definitely come back when you chase her, she used to like you so much."

Richard felt as if a weight was lifted off his shoulders after hearing a definite answer.

He felt much more relaxed.

He had a great night sleep, for the first time in a long time.

Richard was a man of action and began developing a series of schedules the next day.

Richard was a man who would never declare his feelings rashly. He planned to take it step by step.

First, let’s revert to being friends.

So, after playing basketball on this particular Friday, he returned to his classroom to pick up the scholarship and schedule given to him for training by the school, then headed towards the international class.

Meanwhile, Maureen had been staring at Liam for the entire first class of the afternoon.

After being scolded by Mr. Logan, she dared not continue to stare at him.

The second class was a PE class, where she played volleyball with the girls from the international class.

She then headed to the school gate to fetch some desserts sent over from Josephine’s family shop, returning to the classroom before class started.

Maureen wiped the sweat off her forehead and saw that Liam hadn’t returned yet, so she put the dessert for him into her desk drawer.

Although she didn’t personally make this, she bought it, an investment surely to make some progress.

But before she could sit down, someone from outside called for her, saying that someone from the gold medal class was looking for her to make arrangements for the training camp.

The ten-day training camp was set to begin next weekend.

Worried that she might miss something, Maureen quickly went outside.

To her surprise, the one who turned up to communicate the details with her was Richard.

Standing in the corridor, Richard handed the form to her, pointing at the signature line and said,

"The training location is mentioned on top, next Friday after school, all twenty of us will gather at the school gate and depart together.

The school will handle the transportation, the travel and the hotel we’ll be staying in, so you don’t have to worry about anything.

All the expenses are also taken care of.

All you need to bring are some exercise books, and if you’re not comfortable with hotel stays, you can bring some personal items.

Once you’re clear, sign here."

He paused for a moment, then added,

"Also, next week it’ll get colder, so bring more warm clothes."

Maureen quickly signed on the form, giving him a strange look,

"Why is it you?

Shouldn’t the one in charge always be Ethan from your team?"

Richard could not explain, merely staying silent with a cold face. ...

Over there, Liam and his group came up to see Maureen and Richard standing in the hallway talking.

They were just discussing how to break up these two, yet the very next second they saw the two bumping their heads together in conversation.

Liam instantly turned green with envy!

This was unbearable!

His mind snapped, with a throbbing pain at his temple.

He immediately wanted to rush over, but was held back by Niel and Drake.

They held him and brought him back to the classroom from either side.

"Are you guys looking for a fight?!"

"Liam, you really lack emotional intelligence! If you interrupt someone while they’re talking, that’s just plain immature!

It will only make you lose points in Maureen’s eyes!" Liam was rattled, "So what the heck should I do?

Just watch them reconcile?!"

"It’s just a simple conversation" Liam fiercely protested,

"No, she is not allowed to talk to that skinny guy!"

Moments later, Maureen and Richard in the corridor felt overwhelmed as all the junior students from the international class sprung into action.

Every time the two spoke a word, someone would squeeze in between them to get water saying

"Excuse me for a moment" or squeeze in between them on the way back from the restroom.

Richard: "This is like group training——"

"Excuse me."

"For twenty people—"

"Sorry, excuse me again."

"Group—"

"It’s still me, holding in a pee.

Excuse me once more."

Richard’s face was becoming progressively more unpleasant, icy even.

He uttered the rest of his words at lightning speed, much like a stand-up comedy routine:

"Maureen, make sure you join the group for updates on activities, and don’t forget to check the group announcements—"

"Excuse me."

Richard finally lost his patience: "Is all of the international class holding their pee and rushing to the restroom at this moment?

The path is so wide, must you squeeze through the middle?"

Maureen had been glancing restlessly at Liam and the others ever since they returned from the other side.

She didn’t have the mood to exchange pleasantries with Richard, so she quickly joined the group by scanning the QR code and said,

"Thank you, we’ll talk later."

After saying this, she quickly slipped back into the classroom.

Richard: "Liam was almost driven mad watching her out of the corner of his eye.

What was the quick QR code scanning all about earlier?

Did they exchange contact information??? Was he supposed to be unnoticed???

Maureen, holding her watch, returned to her seat and saw that the pressure emanated from Liam’s body was even more oppressive than it was in the morning.

His eyes fixed on the outside, he was silently sharpening a pencil, his face very dark, with several broken pencils lying next to him.

Maureen: "What’s wrong with him again?"

Maureen turned to look at Niel.

Not receiving a response, Maureen pulled out a dessert from her desk and handed it to Liam: "Here, for you."

Liam continued to sharpen the knife: "I won’t eat."

Maureen: Even though it’s not made by me, Josephine’s family runs a dessert shop, and their desserts are really delicious.

Why don’t you like it?" Liam coldly replied: "Dieting." Maureen: "The classmates: "During the last period, a self-study session, Liam had been sharpening his knife throughout.

He looked dispirited at a glance, preoccupied with his thoughts.

Maureen looked at him for a while, couldn’t help but take out her phone, and sent a message to Josephine.

"Do you think Liam is angry with me or it’s just my imagination? Did Niel tell you anything?"

The reply came promptly from the other end, "I’m in the regular class, how would Niel tell me what’s happening with you two?

Generally speaking, trust your intuition. If you think he is, then the reason he’s angry must be related to you."
