Chapter 147: Sleeping together; Could it let to something?
Chapter 147: Sleeping together; Could it let to something?
Maureen was the first to take a bath.
After Liam entered the bathroom, Maureen wandered around the apartment in her fluffy pajamas, bored out of her mind.
Being in love is such a fascinating thing. Before, besides studying, she found dramas and games enjoyable.
Yet, after falling in love, when he was not by her side even for a moment, she got bored no matter what she did.
Nothing was as fun as spending time with Liam.
She wanted to do everything with him, whether it was watching dramas or eating.
Just one glance from him, and her feelings could experience the dramatic waves, drowning in the deep ocean, the best bite of a summer watermelon, or the tartest segment of an orange.
The spacious apartment changed gradually after Maureen moved in.
Maureen was like an invader, painting the previously icy and quiet apartment with colors everywhere.
She was afraid of the cold, so Liam always had the heater on, causing the previous bone-chilling feeling to disappear.
She was afraid of the dark, so Liam installed a few more lights, causing the darkness to disappear.
Maureen had previously explored Liam’s room, the audiovisual room on the second floor, and his workspace.
However, entering them this time, she felt completely different.
Scattered on the carpet in one of Liam’s rooms were numerous books of all kinds —
"Fixing Motorcycles"
"Finding yourself", "A Brief History of Time" — practically all imaginable books.
They were strewn about in a disorganized fashion, but the room wasn’t dirty.
movies - all had been unsealed and seemed to have been watched.
In another room, there were robot parts, a basketball, a basketball uniform, a disassembled desk lamp, and green rusted screws.
Maureen felt as if she were standing in a corridor of time, glimpsing through the light and shadows a lonely child who was disliked and seldom returned home.
In recent years, he had lived here alone, doing everything he could.
He had read countless books and watched countless movies, listening to songs, disassembling countless robots and furniture.
He often shot baskets by himself on the nearby vacant lot, the echoing thud of the basketball hitting the rainy pavement a testament to his loneliness.
Liam had read so many books.
His grades couldn’t be bad.
At this point, the confusion in Maureen’s heart finally cleared up.
It now made sense why he solved problems so cleanly and quickly, yet his exam papers always seemed garbled.
It’s not that he may not know he was also a victim in that incident years ago, but he still blames himself.
For this reason, he doesn’t know where to turn, and spends his nights tossing and turning in a bewildered daze.
He may not be unaware of the burdens he carries, which originally he could have chosen not to bear.
But he chose to face them.
He would never become bad, he would never be torn apart by life’s fangs, nor would he allow the murky things in life to drag him down.
By the time Maureen saw him, he was already glowing brightly.
Suddenly, Maureen understood why he was able to attract her step by step.
She was attracted to Richard because he excelled in his studies and stood out from the crowd.
But she eventually fell for Liam, because he was the warm, glowing sun she saw when she looked up.
==========
At night, Maureen lay in bed with her eyes open, wondering whether Liam, could sleep in the other room.
She even wanted to sleep with Liam— Yet, they had just reached adulthood.
Would it be too early for them to sleep on the same bed?
And would anything happen?
After all, he was a young man in his prime whose arousal would be more intense than others’...
Wait, what was she thinking about? ...It seemed like things moved a bit too fast, and she was getting ahead of herself.
Maureen was struggling with the itch inside her but didn’t want to show her eagerness.
She put a pillow over her head and tossed and turned in bed.
Three minutes later, she started to search: "Is it not alright for young lovers to sleep together?"
The answers below made Maureen blush, most of them advising ’don’t do it’.
They all said that most boys would definitely "devour" the girls completely.
Devour.
Seeing these words alone made Maureen’s face burn hot.
She tossed and turned in bed for a while. In the end, she still got up, clutching her pillow, and shakily descended from the bed.
Liam was also wide awake, sitting cross-legged on his bed, debating whether or not to message Maureen.
Hence, when Maureen’s room door opens, Liam could immediately hear it from his side.
Not wanting Little Mask to see his sleepless state, he quickly turned off the bedside lamp.
With a "pop", he lay flat on the bed, closing his eyes. Maureen pushed his door open, poking her head in.
"Liam, have you fallen asleep?" she asked.
Liam pretended to be fast asleep, motionless.
"No way, is he already asleep?" Maureen couldn’t believe it – wasn’t he supposed to be suffering from insomnia?
Had he taken sleeping pills, and that made him fall asleep?
Since he was already sleeping, there was no reason for Maureen to wake him; she surely wanted him to have a good night’s sleep.
So, Maureen was ready to quietly leave the room.
Liam didn’t want her to worry about his insomnia, but also didn’t want to see her turn and leave.
In the midst of his inner struggle, he suddenly turned over, pretending to wake up.
As soon as he opened his eyes, he was pretending to be startled.
Sitting up suddenly while rubbing his forehead, he said, "You scared me.
I fell asleep just a moment ago and you woke me up.
Little Mask, what are you sneaking around my room for?"
Maureen could tell at a glance that he had been pretending to sleep.
She was fuming on the inside.
What a peculiar person he was.
"If I can’t sleep, then I can’t sleep.
To put her mind at ease, I pretend to be asleep."
"I just came to see if you were asleep.
If you can’t sleep, I plan to sleep with you."
Sleep together??? Could such a good thing really happen???
Liam’s heart sped up. With his messy black hair, he dumbfoundedly looked at Maureen. Seeing him, Maureen teased,
"Since you can fall asleep without insomnia, I should leave."
Having said that while clutching her pillow, she turned around planning to return to her room.
Before she could take two steps, Liam sprung out of the bed.
From behind, he pulled her into his arms, embracing her with his hands, resting his head on her shoulder, burying it in the hollow of her neck, and feebly said,
"Okay, actually, I can’t sleep."
"Can you or can’t you——" Liam’s ears turned bashfully red, and he murmured,
"Don’t go."
=========
Moments later, the two of them were lying on the bed, both lying flat.
The air was eerily silent and stiff, the only sound being the pounding of their hearts.
Maureen had never shared a bed with anyone before, and of course, Liam was no exception.
The two, who were used to sleeping alone, found that once they were on the same bed, they had no idea how to lie down, where to put their hands, and what position their legs should be in— feeling like two little frozen zombies, with their blood uncontrollably coursing through their veins at high speed.
The moonlight seeped through the cracks in the window.
A few minutes later, Liam carefully rolled over. Maureen’s toes were all tense. Maureen continued to lie flat while Liam laid on his side facing her.
Their bodies were pressed together.
Liam was the one who turned, yet felt as if he was cornered, forced, violated.
In the dark, he looked at Maureen: "Can I.. can I hold you?"
Maureen’s heart was pounding irregularly.
Her mind was completely blank, and she could smell the scent of pine on Liam.
Her mind was in a whirl.
She was wondering what cologne he was using, or if it was a natural scent? What would happen if he started to kiss me in a bit?
Did I brush my teeth tonight?
I think I have, right? What did he...? Confused,
Maureen let out an ambiguous "Mmhmm". Taking this as a sign, Liam then tried to calm himself down a bit.
After a short while, he reached out and pulled Maureen into his arms.
Maureen also turned to face him, and for a moment, they were very close to each other.
It wasn’t the first time they were this close-- but beforehand, it happened while they were standing on the ground.
Now, they’re on the same bed, under the same cover, their bare skin outside of the pajamas touching, dry and warm, with the fluffy scent of winter filling the air.
With the decrease in distance, their noses were against each other, their breathing intertwined, their hearts almost pressed against each other.
Liam held Maureen very tightly.
His mind was empty.
This was the girl he liked the most, lying right in his arms.
Liam held Maureen as if she were a fragile precious item, sporadically planting kisses at the corner of her mouth.
Suddenly—— Liam let go of Maureen and moved to the edge of the bed.
Realizing something, Maureen’s cheeks instantly flushed.
She pulled the blanket over her head.
Ashamed and mortified, Liam said, "I’m sorry." He got aroused.
"Why do you get aroused so easily?"
Maureen was equally flushed, hiding her face under the blanket, she teased him, "Are you a little pervert?"
"I’m not!" Liam defensively argued.
"It’s just you.
Which boy wouldn’t feel something when holding the girl he likes the most?
I’m no monk."
Maureen lifted the blanket just a little, revealing her eyes.
She raised her head slightly and looked at him, "Or we could do something... intimate——" Maureen felt she had a strong acceptance of who stood before her.
She didn’t think there was anything wrong with it.
"No way." Liam refused bluntly.
"You’ve just reached adulthood.
Let’s wait till you’re twenty.
" Little did Maureen expect Liam to have such strong self-control.
She lay back down with a vacant expression in her eyes.
"I think you’re a monk." "We could still kiss, though," Liam said, somewhat bashfully.
He cautiously leaned over to give Maureen’s earlobe a little peck.
"Don’t kiss me, I’m sleepy," Maureen shrugged away his head.
How much use can a fleeting kiss have! It can’t even elicit his reaction.
Still feeling disgruntled, Maureen turned to look at Liam.
"Liam, am I not attractive to you at all?"
Liam wrapped her in his arms and replied solemnly,
"That is not true, Maureen.
You hold a special meaning for me.
I cherish you more than anyone else and wouldn’t want to do anything that might harm you."
"I don’t want to spend just a winter with you.
I want to be with you until we’re old and grey. I don’t want our first day to be without rituals."
"I want you to be happy, content, and fulfilled, more than anyone else.
I don’t want any regrets.
On the day I present the ring to you, if you say you’re ready, I’ll rush towards you without any hesitation."
Maureen was only joking, yet Liam, notorious for his frivolity, responded with seriousness that took her by surprise.
Her eyes began to swell with warmth.
The fiery passion of an eighteen-year-old’s love had clearly swept her off her feet.
Yet, she had already found her place in Liam’s future.
She sniffed.
Hiding her face in Liam’s chest, Maureen replied,
"I know, I was only joking.
Don’t worry."
"Let’s sleep, Liam.
Hold me and see if we can fall asleep."
Liam tightened his hold around Maureen.
She was his now, no one could take her away from him.
That night, Liam always had Maureen in his arms.
His heart was beating fast, surging with young affection and love, for he was holding the girl he loved most dearly.
Liam assumed it would be a sleepless night, but oddly, he slowly fell asleep.
In his dream, fractures began to heal gradually.
It was as if he was hugging an iceberg, but the iceberg was warm, smiled at him, shepherding him across the ocean.
In the subtle, quiet breaths of Maureen.
Liam felt as if being pulled to the shore, laying on the soft sand, where the waves hit and soothed him.
He gradually fell asleep.
