The raise of Maureen Smith and her Good Luck System
Chapter 120: I have spent 3 months 600 hours with you

Chapter 120: I have spent 3 months 600 hours with you

After the headmaster had finished berating, school was already over.

Liam walked out of the office arrogantly.

Richard was behind him, so he purposely put his hands behind his back, wishing that he could show the medicine on his knuckles to Richard a few more times, to sting Richard’s heart.

As expected, Richard’s face turned ashen with rage, and his clenched fist never loosened.

Ethan and the others desperately held Richard back, preventing him from doing anything irrational.

When they reached the back door of the international class, Richard and Ethan’s group felt another sting in their hearts.

Maureen was still in the classroom, clearly waiting for Liam.

Niel and a few young boys followed Liam into the classroom.

They tossed the basketball into a corner and shrugged off the dust kicked up by those gold medal students.

On the other hand, Liam swaggered back to his seat to collect his things.

He had been feeling gloomy for such a long time that his current mood could be described as triumphant and as freeing as a bird spreading its wings.

He didn’t care about what the forum was saying now, nor did he care about whether Maureen had liked Richard in the past.

At least now, he feels like he is much more important to Maureen than Richard.

But as he lifted his head, he met Maureen’s somewhat probing gaze.

Liam didn’t know why he was getting nervous, his back instinctively leaning against the wall.

"Wha-what?"

He wouldn’t put it past punching Richard as a chance for personal retaliation.

He was afraid that Maureen would discover this.

"Don’t fight in the future," Maureen stared at him, slowly stating.

Liam quietly heaved a sigh of relief, pulled his backpack out of the drawer, shook it on the table, and complained: "Do you think I intentionally started the fight?

Isn’t it that the boys from the honors class always provokes me? You know that Richard guy——"

Before Liam could finish complaining, he heard Maureen say, "I think you are more handsome with black hair than him.

Don’t listen to his nonsense, you look good in any color." Liam, completely caught off guard, "Niel, also completely caught off guard, "..." What’s going on? Why did a dog suddenly start getting bullied after it had followed someone inside? Liam’s face turned as red as a tomato.

Maureen continued: "Moreover, how long have I known him? It’s only been two years. Suppose I see him twice a week for half an hour each time during these two years—" Maureen paused, picked up the calculator on the table, and quickly calculated: "So, the total time is 104 hours."

"Let’s calculate how long I’ve known you, it’s been three months already! At least five days a week, we spend ten hours together every day, that adds up to 600 hours!" Maureen mustered herself and said, "Liam, don’t listen to him boasting about giving him dessert.

I can guarantee, he’s absolutely not given as much as half of what I’ve given you."

Liam’s movement paused, his ears all flushed, merging seamlessly with the setting sun outside the corridor.

He strove not to let his satisfaction show, but he still looked like an injured panther being comforted, the corners of his mouth and the hair on his forehead perked up.

"Do you really think I care about that?" Liam desperately maintained his face, with an expression that said ’do I look like the type to fight over petty issues’, and he hypocritically responded, "Master me couldn’t even hear what that Richard was droning about; I simply couldn’t bear their arrogant attitude, is that not permissible?"

"Alright, alright, let’s go."

Maureen held back her laughter.

She thought to herself, whatever you’re saying goes.

But I don’t believe you, no matter how I look at it, it seems like you’re just jealous.

Having explained herself, Maureen felt a lot more at ease.

Looking at Liam heading towards the door, with his lips almost curled upwards towards the sky, yet still trying hard to maintain his cool facade, she had a hunch.

But she wasn’t completely sure yet.

And so her heart felt as though it was being nibbled by ants, itching and tingling.

The feeling was just like a long-anticipated green apple about to fall into your hand, the heart leaps with excitement, yet due to apprehension and regard, you’re not sure.

Maureen decided to wait a while longer.

It wasn’t 100% certain yet, she needed to probe a bit more.

There might be many solutions to a problem, but it doesn’t mean that one of them is entirely correct.

She could not act rashly this time, or else it would be embarrassing.

She remembered the answer to the last question she searched—"How to know if a guy likes you."

The very first one was: " He gets jealous."

Assuming Liam fully fulfills this one, then it’s time to see if he meets the following ones. The second one was: "He can’t help but stare at you, thinking you’re beautiful" Following behind Liam as they stepped out of the classroom, Maureen absentmindedly gazed at his retreating figure, frantically wondering, does Liam think she’s beautiful?

How the heck was she supposed to voice out this embarrassing question??? "Little Mask, you’re about to walk into me," Liam turned around at some unknown point in time, lightly tapping her forehead: "Do you want to grab some food before I drop you off at the library?

Niel said he doesn’t want to go home so soon." Niel: ... No, I want to go home.

It’s as cold as a winter wind outside, I just want to retreat into my lonely corner and listen to my single’s ballads.

Maureen regains her senses and is about to speak when her phone begins to vibrate in her pocket.

Maureen gestures and proceeds to answer the call first.

On Liam’s face, the blush and signs of happiness have yet to fade away.

He pockets his hands into his coat, pretending to be captivated by the scenery, but his peripheral vision is all on Maureen.

"Found her?" Maureen, who held the phone, her expression changed.

At the same moment, the phone inside Liam’s coat also began to vibrate.

It was a call from the person he sent out.

It was the same piece of news, Mrs. Daniel, has been found.

=========

Over at Maureen’s place, the person calling was Mrs. Donald.

The news about the possibility of Mrs. Daniel and Bianca being blood-related had caused quite a stir.

After all, it was a scandal that spread faster than any news.

Many companies within the circle already knew about it, let alone the Donald family which had always been keenly interested in all affairs related to the Smith family.

The Donald family was almost driven mad when they heard about this.

If the housekeeper were indeed Bianca’s biological mother, wouldn’t the child swap have then been a premeditated case, leading to Maureen being abandoned as an infant? Mrs. Donald was anxious to go to the Smith family home with Maureen and seek an explanation.

However, Maureen, considering her not-so-good health, advised her against it.

After all, they had only just discovered the person and were in the process of retrieving the DNA for authentication; even at the fastest speed, it would take a few hours to get the results, and if they were to keep waiting, it would be dark.

But, Maureen herself intended to personally make a trip.

She didn’t want to enter Smith’s house ever again, but she must wait for an outcome for her own sake.

The car stopped near Smith’s villa.

It was already dark outside. Maureen glanced at the familiar yet strange front door of the Smith villa, hesitated for a moment, and then spoke to Liam and Niel: "Could you guys wait for me here?"

The matter at Smith’s house was a messy affair, and Smith’s family was unbearable to her.

The last time was at the police station’s courtyard.

She was bearing the thought of handling as much as she could on her own and not letting others know too much about her pitiful past.

Although she no longer categorized Liam as ’others’, she still didn’t want the person she likes to see the kind of desperate, tearful scenes due to her pride.

She wondered if Liam could understand this.

Obviously, Liam might seem harsh and arrogant, but he always managed to detect her subtle mood changes in these minor things, and give way accordingly.

Sometimes, Maureen couldn’t comprehend how he could understand her better than anyone else.

He understood that at this moment, she felt embarrassed.

He knew that during the training, when she had her backpack thrown at by Noella and others, her initial reaction was to retaliate.

"Don’t be afraid," Liam got out of the car with her, breathing out a puff of cold air and ruffling her hair.

"I’ll wait for you outside." Maureen said, "You should wait in the car, it’s cold outside."

Liam urged her, "Go in quickly.

The sooner the problems are solved, the sooner you can put it behind you, right?"

Thinking it over, Liam felt that messing up her hair wasn’t the best idea, she should go in looking neat and tidy.

He hurriedly and awkwardly smoothed down her hair, took off his own scarf, and put it around Maureen’s neck, tying a nice knot.

"You did great last time, you didn’t cry.

There’s no reason to have any ups and downs this time.

Just think of it as watching a play and see how this drama ends."

"Hmm."

Maureen looked at him, and the surging emotions in her heart actually settled down.

She had him. Maureen’s heart was overflowing.

She turned around and walked into the Smith family house.

========

The Smith family’s living room was a mess at this moment.Mrs. Daniel was roughly pinned against the edge of a coffee table.

She was found whilst travelling long-distance by bus to another city and had tried to escape even biting one of the security company’s employees.

There she was, sitting on the floor in a state of disarray, hair messy, body emitting an odor of not having bathed for two days, crying and cursing at Mr. Smith,

"This is illegal detention! I’ve said over and over that I have absolutely no connection with Miss Bianca.

How can you make such wild speculations?"

Mr. Smith’s face turned pale, "Shut up!

Then why did you run?" Amidst her tears, Daniel Yufen retorted, "

I was merely going home to visit my family and you’ve arrested me as if I was a criminal. Is there no justice in the world anymore?! " Coldly, Oliver responded, "In any case, a DNA retest has been sent for.

This time we’ve asked a favor from an acquaintance, the results will be out within four hours. We’ll know exactly what’s going on after four hours."

At that, Mrs. Daniel’s face turned paper-white. Everyone in the living room was caught in an anxious and fearful waiting.

When Maureen walked in, Mrs. Smith, who was sitting on the sofa, quickly stood up.

A glimmer of joy and surprise lit up her face, "Maureen, you’re back?" Seeing this, Chris ran to the kitchen to carefully pour her a glass of water.

At this point, Bianca could no longer care about the warm reception Mrs. Smith and Chris were giving Maureen.

Sitting in one corner of the sofa, she was fixedly staring at Mrs. Daniel on the ground, feeling torturously restless every minute.

She had let her escape, why was she caught back so easily?! What was coming, a death sentence or a misunderstanding? Maureen didn’t say a word and walked to the corner to wait for the results.

Chris opened his mouth, but then set the cup of water back onto the coffee table. ...

The nerves of everyone tightened like strings.

As the seconds and minutes passed. The constant tick-tock of the wall clock in the living room sliced through everyone’s hearts.

Mr. Smith could not stand it anymore, he stood up to smoke, pacing restless in the living room.

These four hours undoubtedly seemed exceptionally long.

The sky turned from grey to the deep night. Until Oliver’s phone suddenly vibrated, like a death notice, everyone in the room shivered at once.

Oliver composed himself and promptly answered the call.

Everyone could not hear what the person on the other end said, they saw his complexion becoming more unpleasant.

The usually calm person was glaring at Mrs.Daniel, his expression so dark that it seemed it could wring out water.

He said to the person on the other end of the phone, "Print two copies of the report and bring them over."

Mr. Smith asked heavily, "Is it or not?" Oliver looked at Bianca, then at Mrs. Daniel on the floor, his eyes carrying all kinds of complex emotions.

"Yes." Upon hearing this word, everyone’s expressions completely changed.

If they had been holding onto their last bit of sanity and calm before, their thread of reason now had completely broken.

Mrs. Smith’s face turned pale in an instant.

The entire living room fell into dead silence for approximately ten seconds.

Then, Mrs. Smith screamed and rushed over, fiercely slapping Mrs.Daniel who had fallen to the ground. --*******--
