The raise of Maureen Smith and her Good Luck System
Chapter 119: Why were they fighting?

Chapter 119: Why were they fighting?

After Maureen had finished applying the medicine to Liam, the Dean of academics stormed in immediately, brandishing his whip furiously.

The Dean’s face was flushed with anger, and he sharply eyed the boys from the international and honor classes lined up in the office.

His gaze was particularly severe towards Liam and Richard, who were at the head of the line.

Liam stood nonchalantly, tugging at the corner of his lip.

He deliberately raised his right fist, showing off the green and purple medicine that had been applied to his knuckles to Richard.

The honor students including Ethan were almost blinded by his actions.

They were all secretly frustrated, thinking that he was being overbearing because he had the favoritism of Maureen.

Couldn’t he see that Richard’s face was growing darker and darker? Meanwhile, a question flashed through their minds: why, in such a fight, had Maureen taken Liam’s side without hesitation?

Hadn’t she seen Richard’s swollen mouth? Retreating a step further, even if Richard hadn’t been hurt, Maureen pulling Liam out in such a public place left Richard in a tough spot.

Didn’t she realize? There was a time when Maureen publicly said in the hallway that she no longer liked Richard.

The boys from the school competition team hadn’t quite realized the truth then.

However, at this moment, Ethan and the others suddenly realized that Maureen’s words might really be true.

Furthermore, what if they had imagined everything? Initially, they thought Maureen transferred to the international class to provoke Richard.

Yet, perhaps she genuinely moved for Liam.

They thought Maureen’s series of actions like running circles around Liam and showering him with sweet things were either attempts to make Richard jealous or being coerced by Liam, the bully.

But what if Maureen was truly willing? Several people felt more and more uncertain.

Especially Ethan, who was horrified to realize that he might very well be the stumbling block that caused the estrangement between Richard and Maureen.

" Swallowing nervously, he subconsciously turned to look at Richard, who was standing next to Liam.

Richard’s face had already turned a hue of ghastly blue-black.

Today, Richard seemed to have lost the composure he usually carried.

He even stepped out of his boundary to provoke Liam, and to further infuriate him. —

This was unlike him, something he would never venture to do in the past.

As a result, the members of the school competition team realized that things might have evolved into the worst-case scenario.

The situation now was likely that Maureen no longer cared about Richard, while Richard started to care about Maureen.

It was over.

The dean of discipline was disappointed with Richard and pointed towards Liam as the instigator, "Why did you get involved in the fight? Richard, how did such an excellent student like you get mixed up?"

Niel and his friends, found the reproach unpleasant.

What did it imply, insinuating Liam’s habit of getting into fights, whereas Richard getting involved was an implausible event?

Liam was also extremely unhappy with this and glared at the Head of Discipline,

"Clarify it.

Richard started the provocation first!" Liam let out a cold laugh mid-sentence, glowering at Richard, and callously retorted with the words Richard had thrown at him earlier,

"Earlier on, when she was applying medicine for me, do you know where in the classroom it happened, and what her expression was? You can’t fight, yet still chose to fight, are you trying to imitate me too?" Richard violently turned to look at him, his temples throbbing.

As Richard’s complexion grew worse, the tension between both grew even more strained, escalating the fight that seemed on the brink of breaking out at any moment.

The dean of discipline promptly separated the two.

The dean of discipline roared, "So what’s the reason for the fight?!"

=======

Inside the classroom. Maureen was also asking this question.

"So what was the reason for the fight? Was it about occupying the basketball court?" Having been a dutiful spectator throughout, a panting little boy quickly defended Liam, worried that Maureen would blame him,

"It wasn’t Liam who started the trouble, it was Richard who provoked it first!

He bragged about how long he knew you, how many desserts he has eaten from you, and even when he met you, you didn’t even know who Liam was."

Maureen: ... She’s almost ready to deny knowing Richard.

How boastful Richard is, she gave him a few desserts? It’s not even as much as she has given Liam.

Is the chase of a person the same as pleading for life? Of course, she would slack off in the former, but she would risk her life to complete the latter.

"Can you say that Liam can hear this and not get angry? Oh yes, he also said that Liam dyed his hair black to imitate him.

Although he got beaten by Liam before he could say it out loud, I suspect that was what he meant."

The little boy was frantic and incoherent, but Maureen understood. ...

The reason why Liam and Richard fought was because Richard claimed that he knew her longer?

That’s just too ridiculous, such a minor reason? If it were someone else, Maureen would have thought that the other party was jealous that she liked Richard, and impulsively threw a punch! ——Wait, hold on.

Why didn’t it occur to anyone that it could be Liam feeling jealous? After all, although Liam may seem brash and overly aggressive, he is not someone who would fight without reason.

It’s not like him to become incredibly angry just because of some provocations.

Maureen felt a strange thump in her heart. She had always thought that Liam was oblivious, treating girls as if they were just younger male buddies.

Anything, including phone cases and scarves, would be shared amongst everyone.

But what if she was completely wrong? What if many things Liam said, such as "I didn’t give you the breakfast on purpose, I just wanted to grab my jacket", or "Even if it was Niel, I would let him live in my house", were deceptive?

Maureen was brainstorming crazily in her head.

If "he was jealous" was true.

Then the previous acts of his that she couldn’t understand would all make sense.

Like that one time when she mentioned a movie she watched with Richard, he became inexplicably gloomy and no longer wanted to watch that movie.

For a while then he seemed to be totally dispirited, acting as if he wanted to be left alone as if he was dead, until she confessed in front of him that she no longer liked Richard.

After that, he was as lively as ever.

And his behavior today.

It all seemed like it could be perfectly explained with jealousy. ...

This thought suddenly popped into her head, which startled Maureen and made her blood surge to her head.

Something seemed to rip open all at once and suddenly everything became crystal clear.

Maureen stared blankly at the young boy in front of her, to the point where he couldn’t help but wave his hand in front of her.

She suddenly came back to her senses, swallowed her saliva, and heavily sat down on her seat.

Her heartbeat suddenly sped up, and her face turned red. ...
