Chapter 107: Focus on the other children so they don’t abandon you too

What happened here, Maureen was unaware. It wasn’t until the next morning when she woke up, she found that the Smith family had stored a gift for her at the hotel front desk.

The receptionist stopped her and handed her the package.

Of course, Maureen didn’t even spare it an extra glance.

Hence, two hours later, the gifts were returned to the Smith family by the hotel’s local delivery service.

The Smith family was having breakfast in a bad mood.

When Mrs. Smith heard the doorbell ring, she let the nanny get the package.

Seeing all the returned birthday presents in their original packaging almost gave her a heart attack.

They called the front desk to inquire about the situation, and the receptionist replied somewhat awkwardly, "Miss Maureen asked us to tell you that your late affections are less valuable than grass.

Instead of wasting time looking for her, you might as well spend time with Bianca and Chris and Mike.

Otherwise, you might lose them both in the end."

"And"

The receptionist hesitated for a moment, then continued, "She said, because it’s all junk, the delivery fee is to be paid on arrival." Looking at the delivery man waiting at the door, Mrs. Smith realized she had to handle the shipping fee.

The crystal bracelet that Mrs. Smith gave to Maureen in the past, which Maureen cherished very much back then, was also returned directly. Junk??? The family at the breakfast table: "..." They felt a wave of dizziness wash over them.

==========

Maureen took the dried test papers and other materials to the classroom and started another morning of headache-inducing problem solving.

During her breaks, she looked at her potted plants.

Six small trees had grown, equivalent to 325 seedlings. They were growing neatly in the small palm-sized ornamental pot, looking so cute.

When she got tired from working on the problems, she could relax her eyes by looking at them. As her potted plants grew, Maureen felt less restricted.

The instances of sudden mental blocks while doing problems were decreasing.

However, although there were fewer, there were still occasional instances.

Like the problem she just did - she had a clear line of thought, and the answer on the scratch paper was correct.

But in the final step, the answer on the test paper ended up with a different number.

"If this were a real contest exam, I’d instantly lose ten points."

Maureen did not know whether with the growth of her own potted plant, other characters would start to increase their intelligence too and not be affected by the female lead, Bianca’s charm.

She didn’t have time to worry about that; she had to solve her own problems first.

In just a few more days, the preliminaries would begin.

The most pressing matter at hand was to try to get the potted plant to grow one more cycle.

That way, her chances of making it to the finals would be higher.

Also, Maureen hadn’t forgotten about the bet she made with Noella—whoever did worse in the exam would have to drop out of school.

So, Maureen tapped the system she hadn’t used in a while, "The growth of the potted plant has slowed down recently, probably because I’ve done everything I could for it.

Is there any other way to make it grow faster?" The system, taking on a part-time job to assist more impoverished supporting female characters since she was on the right track, only responded after a while,

"Have you done everything I’ve told you to do?" Skin touch, a hug.

All of it was either deliberate or happened by chance. Maureen’s face reddened at the thought, she scratched her cheek, saying ambiguously, "Hmm."

The system said, "Then only a kiss is left." Maureen instinctively "hmm"-ed in agreement. Moments later, her face turned beet red as she regained her senses, "What???" What in the world??? A-a kiss??? The system said, "According to the rules, the first time readers see characters holding hands, they usually feel excited.

By the time the second hand-holding moment arrives, the readers’ reactions have leveled off. However, if you have characters passionately kissing each other, that will get readers excited again.

It’s the general rule— and note that it’s best if it’s a deep kiss, not a fleeting peck.

It will boost your novel’s popularity a lot more."

"Of course, it’s up to you.

If you’re not ready for this yet, you can continue to progress the plot slowly with sweet moments and small actions that will accumulate gradually, but compared to the beginning, these gestures would not significantly increase popularity at this stage."

Maureen: Is it okay for the system to casually mention ’kissing’ in its mechanical tone?! The System: "That’s fine, I can understand your reluctance.

After all, the idea of kissing someone you don’t like can be psychologically difficult."

Maureen’s pen sharply cut across the draft paper, her heart beating wildly: "Well, it’s not entirely...out of the question."

The system hadn’t completed its words when it heard this sentence from Maureen’s heart and it fell silent: "

What happened while the system was away helping the other supporting female characters?!

==========

Having received such a reminder from the system, the next time Maureen saw Liam, she was filled with an unnatural, nervous heartbeat.

Moreover, her gaze kept involuntarily falling on his lips.

Like under a spell, she wondered if there was some way - by chance - she might end up kissing him.

Didn’t dramas often have scenarios where a tumble leads to a kiss? But why did her tumbling with Liam only lead to broken legs?

Is she still not standing high enough? "Thank you."

Liam received the cheese strawberry from the hands of the milk tea shop attendant.

When he inserted the straw and passed it to Maureen, Maureen was still staring at him.

The weather was a bit hot today, and Liam didn’t wear a jacket.

His black sweater was cuffed, revealing porcelain-like attractive arms.

He is tall, wide-shouldered, and handsome. Quite a few girls in the queue were glancing at him. Maureen looked up and his gaze fell on Liam’s jawbone and lips.

Her eyelashes quivered slightly, and her eyes began to change.

"What’s wrong?" On the surface, Liam seemed nonchalant and cool-headed, with one hand in his pocket, it seemed like he could strut down a runway anytime.

But in reality, he was quite nervous, almost wanting to pull out his phone right there and search: ’What does it mean if a girl says she sees you as a boss but keeps staring at you?’

Liam almost started self-admiring due to his heated head.

Hold back.

He started to rationally analyze. Was there something on his face or hair? Maureen swallowed, instantly sobering up.

What was she thinking? Holding hands and hugging were fine, but if she suddenly went on tiptoes to kiss him, Liam would probably freak out, his face would darken, and he would beat her to a pulp.

Maureen received her milk tea and made up a lie: "Nothing, it’s just that there’s something in your hair."

As expected. Liam was glad he didn’t succumb to vanity. The two moved aside.

"Maureen said, "Bend over, let me pick it off for you."

"Women are such a hassle," Liam frowned, showing a face that suggested ’I, the distinguished Liam, am quite reluctant to have my hair touched by anyone, but I’ll suffer it for you—being my right-hand man’ and bent his head ’unwillingly’.

One of Maureen’s hands was holding her milk tea, and the other hand reached up to pick something off his short hair, possibly a piece of dust from the store.

In doing so, she touched his hair. The hair of boys was surprisingly different from girls, short and firm—it was pretty stubborn, kind of like the choppy fur of a doe-eyed Golden Retriever.

Maureen couldn’t resist and reached out to feel it. When she realized what she was doing, she quickly withdrew her hand and turned her head away, guilty as a thief.

Liam, with a face of impatience, also turned his head away while blushing slightly around the ears.
