The raise of Maureen Smith and her Good Luck System -
Chapter 101: What is Flying chess?
Chapter 101: What is Flying chess?
Before long, the balloons were strewn all over the place, with six people throwing them up to the ceiling.
By almost midnight, candles were lit, the lights were switched off, leaving only the romantic music to gently flow.
At midnight sharp, Maureen was surrounded in the center.
Liam and the others began to sing the birthday song to her, both in French and English.
Maureen propped her chin up with both hands, her head bowed low, her eyes shut.
She made a wish with a smile.
This year was the most fortunate birthday she’s ever had.
Her wish was for the fate of the female antagonist and the terminal illness to disappear as soon as possible, for the Donald family to be healthy, and to have someone named ’Liam’ accompanying her for her birthday every year.
Maureen suddenly thought, was she being too greedy by wishing for three things all at once? If only one wish could be granted.
Oh, God, please grant her the last wish. The rest will be promised next year.
Liam was not aware that Maureen had made a wish related to him on this very day of the year. ...
The midnight hour had passed, and the moonlight was splendid outside.
Amid the cheerful atmosphere, Maureen blew out the candles with a whoosh.
The boys were not sleepy at this point, but the girls and Drake were.
"Let’s have some late-night snacks before I take you home," Liam told Maureen.
He went to the door to receive the late-night snack delivered by the waiter, shut the door with his foot, and spread out the snack on the table.
While everyone was engrossed in the late-night snack, Liam went to pay the bill, Maureen noticed Drake dozing off in a corner.
She couldn’t help walking over and nudged him, "Drake, can I ask you a few questions?"
Drake looked at her, "What type of questions?"
Somehow, Drake understood immediately, "Regarding Liam?" Maureen didn’t know as much about Liam as he knew about her.
At first, she simply considered him as a WiFi source and didn’t pay much attention to him.
Then she saw him as a boss without any improper thoughts or inquiries. However, now that Maureen has confirmed that he is the one she likes, she can’t help but want to know more about him.
Specifically, what is the medicine he usually takes, and besides his fear of dogs, are there any dietary restrictions or taboo.
She felt her girlish thoughts were about to drive her crazy.
She turned red with embarrassment and felt a little shy.
Looking back at the entrance, she noticed that Liam had not returned, so she seized the opportunity, "Right."
Without knowing why, Drake couldn’t help but smile, "Some things are better if you learn them from him directly, but I can tell you this."
"What?"
Maureen asked, curiosity piqued as she sat to one side.
Liam, throughout his life, has never shown interest in any girl.
In fact, he could hardly keep a conversation going with them beyond ten sentences.
With his approachable yet intimidation character that signals ’wanna fight?’ to anyone who dares engage him, his popularity amongst girls was nothing to be proud of.
But Drake, with his mischievous glint in his peach blossom eyes, was overflowing with tricks.
He glanced at the flying chess on the table and started to spin a tale: "Liam had a childhood sweetheart, pretty as a picture, and perhaps just as beautiful as you are."
Bright Creek’s heart skipped a beat.
Drake dared not to exaggerate too much: "Well, he didn’t exactly harbor feelings for her, but we were all pretty close.
We studied together overseas and Liam would bring her to his house a lot.
He even affectionately called her ’Little Flying Chess’ since she would often play that game with him. Little Mask, you haven’t played flying chess with Liam, have you?"
An eruption of anger flared within Bright Creek. What on earth? The nickname he gave her was seemingly a copycat of someone else’s! Bright Creek was furious: "Got it."
Liam returned from settling the bill, his mood lifted.
He looked forward to escorting Maureen’s home.
But the moment he pushed the door open, Maureen glared at him. Without uttering a single word, Maureen grabbed her late-night snack and left.
What just happened? The smile froze on Liam’s face. Drake came over with his wine glass and patted Liam’s shoulder: "Do you remember when we used to climb trees as kids and you failed to hold onto me, causing me to fall and break my leg, ending up in the hospital for three months?"
"What’s up with that all of a sudden? Are you looking for a fight?"
Liam raised an eyebrow, his demeanor icy cold.
Drake shrugged with a smile, "I won’t fight, as I can’t beat you." ...
Liam’s attention was still on Maureen. Several people stretched lazily, began to pack and planned to leave.
Liam picked up his jacket, carried the box of gifts, and planned to accompany Maureen back home.
In the deep of the night, under the beautiful moonlight, they chose to walk back to the training hotel while others took a taxi.
For some inexplicable reason, Liam could sense that Maureen’s mood had taken a slight dip.
A frown crossed his features as he thought of how to ask her about her mood, only to realize that they’d already arrived at the training hotel.
Right at the entrance of the room, he noticed the cake that Richard had left at the door.
"Looking down at the cake, Liam’s expression instantly darkened. How could this kid still not lose hope?
Maureen has already expressed her dislike for him. What part of "dislike" didn’t he understand? Disliking someone means hating them!
Does he have any self-awareness at all? Even though Maureen didn’t exactly fancy Liam, her indifference towards him meant there was infinite room for possibilities.
Without missing a beat, Liam kicked the cake box casually to the side, affecting indifference.
This did not assuage his ire, he picked the box back up and said to Maureen,
"I’ll go throw this away." Maureen didn’t seem bothered and nodded her head,
"Thanks."
Seeing her gaze lingering on the cake for a moment, Liam felt a pang of jealousy and immediately asked,
"Did you like the steak from the restaurant the other day?"
To his surprise, Maureen looked up at him, seemingly jealous as well, an implied tone of vinegar in her voice as she replied,
"Heh", and gave him a stare,
"Did you enjoy playing the flying chess?"
Liam was taken aback,
What is flying chess?
