The raise of Maureen Smith and her Good Luck System -
Chapter 100: Joyous atmosphere
Chapter 100: Joyous atmosphere
Over here, Maureen’s birthday party was filled with a joyous atmosphere.
The hotel room was lit with warm yellow lights, soft milky-colored sofas, and the long table was filled with all kinds of snacks and food, with a three-layered cake in the middle.
The cake read, "Happy 18th Birthday Maureen," spelled out with cherries.
Everyone gathered together, in a setting that was both luxurious and warm.
Everyone had brought presents, and among them, Liam’s box was the largest, large enough to hold the entire table.
Curiosity piqued, Maureen wanted to tear it open right away.
However, Liam quickly held out his hand to stop her, "Unwrap it when you’re back home." Unable to hold back, Maureen asked, "What’s in it that makes it so large?"
"Just some miscellaneous trinkets, don’t worry, it’s not expensive.
Do you think I’d roam around various streets carefully preparing something?"
Liam stood aside, hands in his pockets, trying hard to maintain an aloof and cool demeanor, only his ears were tinged with red.
A warm palpitation fluttered through Maureen’s heart, trying to suppress her excitement and took a sip of her drink, "Then I will bring it home and look."
Looking at Maureen, and then at Liam, Laurel felt very uncomfortable.
He forcefully intervened, getting himself between the two and sat down, excitedly holding Maureen’s arm, "Maureen, look at mine, look at mine! Mine has no such pompous rules, you can open it right away!"
Having been squeezed in between by an adult, Maureen had no choice but to move a seat to the left. Liam’s face turned sour instantly and he glared at Laurel.
However, Laurel was oblivious, moving his buttocks left and right, trying hard to push Liam out of the seat.
Liam wanted to make a fuss but held back, considering the fact that this was Maureen’s friend, he decided to give her face and for more for three seconds.
But as he saw Laurel hugging Maureen’s arm, he flared up, "Kid, don’t you think your butt is just a bit too big?"
When Laurel was introduced by Maureen and Niel, Liam had already set three ground rules with a face like bitterness. 1. No physical contact with Maureen is allowed. 2. Still, no physical contact with Maureen is permitted. 3.
If anyone dares to overstep the boundary with Maureen, they will get a beating.
Oh, they even dare to threaten? Who’s afraid of whom? Laurel is not afraid, he’s as bold as a newborn calf.
Laurel turned around and looked at Liam,
" if you find the sofa small, you can sit over there. There are so many seats on the opposite sofa, just a few steps away.
Are you too old to move your legs?"
Liam’s eyebrows rose incredulously. Only he had dared to provoke others.
No one had ever dared to challenge him so openly! Was this kid tired of living? He must be asking for trouble! Liam, in a fit of rage, stood up and was about to lift Laurel up by the collar. Niel blocked him and persuaded,
"Let it go, Liam. Consider that he is Maureen’s half-relative, and maybe your future brother-in-law..."
Liam glared at him fiercely. Niel quickly changed his words to "Maureen".
Nevertheless, the room was filled with laughter.
Drake, with his charming peach blossom eyes, sang into the microphone and gave a flirtatious wink to the waitress who brought in the dinner and fruits.
The waitress blushed and couldn’t help but take extra glances at him.
Josephine, who was far away eating watermelon, saw this and felt a bit down.
The fruit delivered was much of what Maureen loved, such as pineapple and mango. She ate her fill.
The song was heading toward its climax when Maureen pulled up Her Liam to join in the singing.
Liam secretly took a deep breath, pretending as though he was only there to enjoy their singing and managed to nonchalantly walk behind her.
He was this close now.
With the play of light and shadow, Liam subtly lowered his gaze, eyeing Maureen’s earlobe and side profile, illuminating and glinting under the multicoloured spotlight, mirroring Liam’s feelings.
His heart seemed like it was bursting with a parade of small fireworks, a sensation that started the moment he saw her.
Again, Liam couldn’t help but reflect on her emphatic statement of disinterest toward Richard.
’Thank god, she doesn’t like anyone else,’ he thought.
He pinched his cheeks, trying hard to stop himself from grinning too widely.
Perhaps it was because Maureen’s, Neil’s, and Drake’s combined voices were so intrusive that the balloons hanging from the ceiling started to fall one after another.
Following the music on the big screen...
Red, yellow, green, blue - the colourful balloons fluttered in the air, causing everyone to look up and wear a joyful smile on their faces.
As she looked up, Maureen couldn’t help but glance at Liam. He, too, was smiling.
His short, dark hair contrasted his fair skin, making his handsome features appear less brusque and unexpectedly child-like.
He’d been under a lot of stress lately, and Maureen had never seen him this happy before.
Was it possible that his family issues had been resolved? Because he was joyous, Maureen’s mood also started to lift. Maureen turned her head back to the falling balloons and eagerly stretched out her hand to catch one of them.
It was then that Liam turned his head to look at her.
Her eyes sparkled, and a few loose strands of hair rested by her ears.
Liam swallowed hard, his gaze darkening.
Subconsciously, he wanted to reach up and help her tuck some hair behind her ear.
But as soon as he recognized that his fingers had moved on their own, he quickly withdrew his hand.
His ears flushed a deep red, and he felt unbearably self-conscious.
Quickly, he clenched his misbehaving right hand with his left, looked around to make sure no one had noticed him, and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"What do we do if the balloons fall?" Niel asked: "If we step on them later and they all pop, people downstairs will complain we’re causing a disturbance."
"Let them complain." Liam gave a haughty and cold ’I-am-rich’ look: "It’s not often Maureen gets to celebrate her birthday.
A bit of mischief won’t hurt. If it really becomes an issue, I’ll just compensate with a large sum of money."
Niel: Are you being mischievous just once? You are the ’not mischievous’ one trying to survive amidst the mischief.
"I have an idea." Maureen said: "Rub the balloon against your hair, and it will float up again."
As she said this, she picked up a fallen balloon.
Niel gazed at her in surprise: "Really?" Both he and Liam bent over subconsciously, leaning their heads forward. Seeing this, Laurel also rushed to join. Maureen, without thinking, chose Liam’s head. Niel: ... Laurel: ...
What’s going on? What’s the situation? Why did they suddenly feel as if they were exuding the scent of singlehood?
Was it their imagination? These two had clearly been in a cold war just a short while ago!
Maureen casually rubbed the balloon against Liam’s head, then threw it towards the ceiling.
The balloon quickly floated back up, leisurely sailing towards the ceiling once again.
Liam, with his messy and frizzy black hair, shoved both hands into his pockets and glanced smugly at Niel.
He then deliberately turned his head to give Laurel a glance.
Niel:... No envy here, thanks. Laurel:... Damn, I am annoyed.
Everyone else also started picking up the balloons, imitating him, and the more they played, the more fun it became and the atmosphere livened up further.
