Chapter 466: 465 So that’s what Khan is like privately (first update)
Seeing Yelu Yan smiling at her through the carriage window without saying another word, Li Xianyun smiled and said, "Husband, I am leaving now."
Yelu Yan hummed in response but took a step forward, coming closer.
Li Xianyun’s clear and clean eyes looked at him, puzzled and confused.
Yelu Yan’s lips curled into a mischievous smile as he lifted his hand, cradled Li Xianyun’s small head, and planted a kiss on her soft lips through the carriage window.
Li Xianyun, in disbelief, widened her eyes; surrounded by so many people, he kissed her just like that, oblivious to shame.
Fortunately, the palace attendants stood with their hands down, none of them looking in their direction.
For the first time, she felt such protocol was truly wonderful; if the scene of their kiss were seen, how could she face anyone?
Li Xianyun raised her hand to push him, and Yelu Yan, sensing the mood, let her go. His face wore the smug satisfaction of success, and his thumb gently brushed against her flushed lips, tenderly stroking her cheek.
"Now you can go."
Li Xianyun was about to scold him when she raised her eyes and suddenly noticed several people standing not far away. Looking closely, she saw Yaduo, surrounded by a group of palace maids, smiling nearby.
Li Xianyun’s little face became as hot as boiling water in an instant. She hurriedly swatted away the large hand that was touching her cheek.
"Grandmother."
Yelu Yan also saw Yaduo, touched his nose, cleared his throat, and called out, "Grandmother."
Yaduo, accompanied by others, walked over.
Li Xianyun stepped out of the carriage.
Yelu Yan helped her down.
The couple exchanged a glance.
One full of blame, as if to say, "Look what you’ve done."
The other with an innocent face, as if to say, "It wasn’t intentional, my wife."
After Li Xianyun stood firm, Yelu Yan’s hand naturally circled around her waist.
Li Xianyun caught his large hand, trying to pull it away.
But Yelu Yan refused to relent, and Li Xianyun’s effort had little strength against his large hand. After trying twice, she gave up, allowing him to keep his embrace firmly around her slender waist.
Yaduo looked at the couple’s tender and affectionate manner, her smile growing deeper.
Approaching, Yelu Yan asked, "Grandmother, why are you here?"
"What, you don’t want grandmother to come? Afraid I’ll disturb your intimate moments with Xianxian?"
Her words confirmed she had seen the couple’s earlier kiss.
Li Xianyun’s palm-sized, beautiful little face turned a deep red.
Li Xianyun was flustered, but Yelu Yan was much calmer, smiling and saying, "How could that be?"
Yaduo explained with a smile, "I had nothing to do and was walking around the palace. I happened to pass by Khan Palace, so I came to look around."
Just in time to see a side of her grandson that was unknown to others.
In her memory, her grandson was always serious and rarely smiled. She had been worried he was too stiff and cold, unable to cheer people up, causing her hard-won granddaughter-in-law to feel aggrieved.
Now it seemed she had misunderstood.
With Li Xianyun, Yelu Yan could actually be so proactive and enthusiastic.
The scene from earlier almost made Yaduo’s jaw drop.
Looking at Li Xianyun, Yaduo asked, "Dear, are you going out of the palace?"
Li Xianyun hummed, smiling, "The granddaughter-in-law is going to Xuanyi Pavilion for a medical consultation."
Yaduo nodded and smiled, "Come back early; otherwise, someone will start to worry."
As she spoke, she cast a meaningful glance at Yelu Yan, then left with the entourage of palace maids.
Li Xianyun, seeing Yaduo was far away, glanced sideways at Yelu Yan, "It’s all your fault."
"All right, all right, it’s all my fault, don’t be angry."
Li Xianyun was helped into the coach by Yelu Yan, gave him a look, and closed the previously wide-open carriage window.
Ignoring him.
Yelu Yan chuckled, "Come back early."
Li Xianyun replied from inside the carriage with a muffled, husky voice, "Understood."
For several days in a row, the sky had been overcast, but today the sun was splendidly shining, and the wind was gentle—the perfect time for a stroll.
Yaduo and her party slowly walked through the garden. Though the flowers and trees were withered and lifeless, the several koi in the pond seemed even lovelier by contrast.
Seeing Yaduo standing by the pond, looking down at the swimming koi, her personal maid quickly brought over some fish food and said with a smile, "This maid had no idea the Khan could be so amiable in private."
Since she was a maid who had been with Yaduo since childhood, she spoke more casually.
Yaduo took a small amount of the fish food and sprinkled it into the water, whereupon the koi fish swam over eagerly, opening their mouths to scramble for food and stirring up many bubbles.
Yaduo glanced at her and smiled, "Not only you, even I am quite startled."
"My lady, you have always been worried that the Khan would not win the queen’s favor, afraid that she would suffer hardships in his company. Now you can rest assured, right?"
"Yes," Yaduo smiled, "Ayan has had a hard journey. Now that he has someone by his side who understands him and cares for his well-being, with husband and wife in harmony, I too can be at ease."
At the moment, she was just waiting to hold her great-grandson.
However, such matters couldn’t be rushed; they would happen in their own time.
Li Xianyun arrived at the West Market store, where craftsmen were busily removing the previous decor to start renovations.
She handed over her draft to the craftsman in charge.
The craftsman opened the draft and couldn’t help but praise it.
"Young master, did you draw this yourself?"
Li Xianyun surveyed the store and smiled, "Is there anything inappropriate?"
"Not at all, not at all. What you’ve drawn is so excellent, truly ingenious. If decorated as such, it would surely be a pleasure to behold."
Li Xianyun smiled, "You should follow the draft for the renovation. If you encounter any problems, find me at Xuanyi Pavilion."
"Alright."
Li Xianyun left the store and boarded her carriage to head for treatments at Xuanyi Pavilion.
Just as the carriage turned the street corner, loud quarreling noises could be heard.
Li Xianyun lifted the curtain to look, and saw a crowd gathered in front of a shop where a group of ruffians brandishing sticks were causing a disturbance.
"Paying off debts is a matter of integrity!"
"But it’s not my Family Head who owes you money! Find the person who owes you!"
"He’s hiding now, and we can’t find him at all, so we can only come to you since you bought his shop."
"This is unreasonable!"
The ruffians said, "What’s the value of reason? I’ll stop wasting words with you. If you don’t pay his debts, we’ll take away everything movable and smash anything that isn’t. A small commotion every day, a big one every third day—let’s see if you can endure it?"
"How dare you? Aren’t you afraid we’ll report you to the authorities?"
The ruffian feigned terror, "Report to the authorities, oh, how scared I am! Go ahead and report. If the Official Government can recover the money owed to my Family Head, I’d even thank you."
He paused, then barked, "What are you all waiting for? Get in there!"
At his command, the gang of ruffians rushed into the shop, some moving things and others smashing away.
The scene turned into complete chaos.
Li Xianyun dropped the curtain and instructed Bater to keep driving.
The carriage hadn’t gone far before it was stopped by someone.
Bater called from outside, "My lady, it’s Princess Jinyu."
Princess Jinyu rode up to the carriage window and knocked on the frame.
Li Xianyun opened the window and gazed at the flamboyantly dressed woman before her.
Her lips were dry, and her forehead hair slightly disheveled—she obviously had rushed over upon hearing the news.
Princess Jinyu, gritting her teeth, glared at Li Xianyun and said, "I didn’t expect you to be so cunning."
Li Xianyun snorted coldly, "I’m cunning? Wasn’t it you who said you particularly liked that shop, insisting I give it up?"
