Chapter 270: 270 Slimmed Down (first update)
Li Xianyun folded back to the carriage and took out a package of poison powder from the medicine chest, along with the antidote.
She opened the window and handed them to Bater.
Bater received them respectfully and said, "Yes!"
He clearly had done these things many times before, for whenever they encountered danger, Li Xianyun would distribute antidotes and poison powder to everyone.
Everyone deeply appreciated the benefits of using poison; by taking the antidote first, when the enemy approached, scattering the poison would leave them powerless.
Along the journey, they faced incessant assassination attempts, but most were swiftly suppressed by Li Xianyun’s poisons, so despite the arduous and long road, not a single soldier was lost.
This was a very rare situation.
A dark mass of people on rushing steeds, galloping with the ferocity of landslides, and accompanied by billowing dust clouds came speeding toward them.
The guards and the Hidden Guard were hastening on their way while staying alert.
But the convoy was so heavy that it just could not move quickly, and soon those people were upon them.
Li Xianyun opened the carriage window and looked at the few hundred approaching men. The leader was tall and handsome, with a commanding presence, and his figure seemed familiar, but she could not be certain yet.
It wasn’t until an eagle-eyed soldier exclaimed with joy, "Khan! It’s the Khan!!"
The crowd went wild with delight, straining their eyes to see, and as the distance closed, the view growing clearer, wasn’t the leader Yelu Yan?
He was clad in armor, towering and imposing, snapping his whip against the back of his horse as he spurred it into a furious gallop.
Behind him rode the fearsome Flame Army.
The guards and the Hidden Guards shouted in Khitan the name of their most revered Khan, filled with respect and worship for him.
In the midst of these ecstatic chants, Li Xianyun’s chest rose and fell with emotion.
Once it was confirmed to be Yelu Yan, Li Xianyun ordered the convoy to stop and stood in place to wait.
She stepped down from the carriage and stood in front of it, gazing at the tall and majestic figure, her lips curving into a sweet smile.
Meanwhile, Yelu Yan’s determined, profound tiger eyes were firmly fixed on the carriage at the front, where a charming figure stood— the figure he longed for day and night.
Even Yelu Yan himself had not realized his lips had fiercely curled up, his eyes and brows brimming with intense joy.
He was already fast, but still felt too slow, wishing he had wings to fly instantly to Li Xianyun’s side.
The Flame Army drew ever closer, and Yelu Yan and Li Xianyun’s gazes remained intensely locked together.
Yelu Yan stared unblinkingly at Li Xianyun.
She was still so delicate, so charming, yet she had grown thinner, her slightly chubby cheeks slimmed down considerably, even her pointed chin was now visible, and her clothes seemed a size too large.
She had suffered on this journey.
Yelu Yan’s heart ached terribly, and the smile that had lifted his lips fell just like that.
Li Xianyun watched her man, her lips constantly bearing a sweet smile.
Different from when they had parted, the current Yelu Yan was somewhat unkempt, still strikingly handsome but with his beard all scruffy.
However, this did not detract from his looks; on the contrary, it added a wild and untamable masculine charm.
Such a man was even more pleasing to a woman.
As he approached, Yelu Yan dismounted with a lithe grace.
With a single step forward, he extended his long arm and drew Li Xianyun tightly into his embrace, their necks interlocked as he hugged her, his scruffy handsome face buried in the soft nape of Li Xianyun’s neck.
Li Xianyun’s delicate body trembled slightly; his stubble prickled her neck with a painful yet ticklish sensation, and his rigid armor chafed against her chest, causing some discomfort.
Watching him embrace her tighter and tighter, Li Xianyun couldn’t help but say in a delicate voice, "It hurts."
Her voice was so tender it seemed as if it could squeeze out water.
Yelu Yan then realized what he was doing and hurriedly loosened his strong, sturdy arms. He bowed his head and gazed at her palm-sized face with a look of guilt, "It is my fault."
These were the words he had wanted to say to her at every moment over the past few days; he had made her suffer.
In the midst of the crowd, the intimate exchange between the two was quite embarrassing.
Li Xianyun’s snow-white cheeks turned slightly red.
Yelu Yan could easily guess what Li Xianyun was thinking. With a smile, he hoisted the woman in his arms sideways and leaped onto the horse carriage.
Li Xianyun couldn’t help but exclaim in surprise, astounded that he could step up into such a high carriage while still holding her.
This man was as strong as a bullish ox.
Once on the carriage, Zhuo Ma and Youlan closed the doors from either side with a smile and walked toward another carriage.
In the spacious carriage, Yelu Yan held Li Xianyun in his arms and ordered calmly to the outside, "Set off."
"Yes!"
The carriage began to move slowly, swaying along with them.
Li Xianyun saw Yelu Yan staring at her unblinkingly, his tiger-like eyes shining brightly, his face beaming with joy.
Li Xianyun felt somewhat embarrassed being stared at like that. She raised her hand to push his sharp, handsome cheek but was caught by him. He brought her slender hand to his lips and gently kissed it, still gazing at her, "You’ve lost weight."
Though only two words, they contained endless emotion and an unspeakable longing.
Li Xianyun, with her free hand, gently touched Yelu Yan’s rough stubble, "My lord, your beard has grown long."
"Missing you," he said.
Li Xianyun chuckled softly, failing to see the connection between missing her and his growing beard.
Yelu Yan lifted her hand again and kissed it, gazing into her watery eyes, "You have no idea how much I have missed you."
He had lain awake night after night, unable to sleep, listening to the secret agents repeatedly report on Li Xianyun’s situation. Sometimes, when the secret agents were late, his heartbeat would race uncontrollably, his mind tempted to drop everything to go find her.
Thankfully, the secret agents always brought good news, but it still wasn’t enough to ease his mind. Until he saw Li Xianyun safe and sound before him, his anxious heart only grew more anxious by the moment, torturing him, leaving him restless all day long.
As Yelu Yan spoke, his hand crept up her back to her tender, white nape and he leaned in to kiss her.
Initially, he kissed her gently and slowly, as if savoring candy, but gradually, faced with Li Xianyun’s trembling, Yelu Yan lost control and kissed her fiercely, leaving her no room to breathe or escape. Pursuing her relentlessly, he kissed her thoroughly.
Seeing that Li Xianyun was really struggling to breathe, Yelu Yan finally let her go, his face beaming with a mischievous smile.
With his thumb, he gently wiped the droplets of water from the corner of her mouth.
"After so many kisses, you still haven’t learned to breathe properly, huh?"
Catching her breath, Li Xianyun looked up at his lips, now even redder and softer from kissing, and at his eyes that had learned to provoke and entice. She softly rebuked, "Every time it’s like you’re going to devour me, how can I resist that?"
With an innocent smile, Yelu Yan said, "Have I?"
"Yes, of course, you have."
Yelu Yan, with a smile, brushed her hair from her forehead, his face full of affection, "Who told you to be so fragrant, so sweet?"
Li Xianyun never expected to hear such words from the stern, serious, cold, and reticent Yelu Yan. With a coy smile, she said, "My lord, aren’t you embarrassed?"
Gently kissing her exquisitely beautiful face, Yelu Yan murmured, "What is there to be embarrassed about, when we have done things far more embarrassing than this?"
