The general clapped his hands in approval upon hearing the news, "Well killed, such a beast deserves to die without regret."
"Daughter, don’t be afraid, with your father here, no one dares to hurt you. Death is too kind for him."
Xun Qingqing was moved beyond words, "Daughter always knew Father loves her the most."
The general’s wife was terrified just hearing the gist of what had happened. She tenderly pulled her daughter into her arms and, looking at the veil on her cheek, asked, "Qingqing, why are you wearing a veil?"
Xun Qingqing touched her own face, her expression darkening slightly, "Mother, I’ve been injured on the face."
General Xun looked at his daughter with heartache, "Was it that beast’s doing?"
Xun Qingqing nodded.
The general’s wife tenderly caressed her daughter’s cheek, being extremely careful not to hurt her.
"Is it serious? Have you seen a doctor?"
Xun Qingqing couldn’t bear to tell her mother about her disfigurement, but she didn’t want to lie to her either, reasoning it would be better to be upfront than let her mother find out later.
"I have seen a doctor already. I might be disfigured."
The general’s wife froze, and so did General Xun, even with his battlefield experience.
The general’s wife snapped out of it and hugged her daughter again, the tears she had just stopped falling anew from the corners of her eyes.
"Qingqing, my poor child."
General Xun barked, "What are you crying for? As long as Qingqing is safe, it’s a great blessing."
The general’s wife countered, "What do you know? A girl’s face is what she cares about the most."
Jun Wuxian, sitting on the side sipping his tea, listened to the Xun family’s concern for Xun Qingqing and thought of Xiaojiu, who was also doted on by her family.
After ensuring Xun Qingqing’s safety and understanding the whole story, Xun Qingqing took Jun Wuxian for a stroll in the garden, his first visit to her home.
Xun Qingqing raised her head to look at Jun Wuxian. This was the second time she had seen him dressed in his everyday clothes. The first time, he had been wearing purple, and now he wore moon-white, equally becoming on him.
Jun Wuxian surveyed the General Residence and sensed someone’s gaze on him. He redirected his attention and found Xun Qingqing staring intently at him without blinking.
"What are you looking at?"
Xun Qingqing unabashedly praised him, "You look good in moon-white clothes too."
Jun Wuxian chuckled softly, "I didn’t realize you were so good at giving compliments."
In her heart, Xun Qingqing retorted that she didn’t just compliment anyone; it depended on the person.
"How long do you plan to stay in the Capital?"
Jun Wuxian replied, "I might leave after a few days."
"Oh," Xun Qingqing responded with a hint of disappointment. A few days and then he would leave, she had no idea when would they meet again.
She suddenly lifted her head to look at Jun Wuxian, "Then stay at my house for these days. It’s more comfortable than staying at an inn."
Jun Wuxian didn’t refuse, "Sure."
Xun Qingqing was somewhat cheerful upon his agreement, looking forward to seeing Jun Wuxian every day for the next few days.
"Right, have you found your sister?"
Jun Wuxian sighed, "How could it be so easy? She has been missing for nine years. If it were that easy, she would have been found by now."
Xun Qingqing felt an inexplicable happiness at his words, not because Jun Wuxian hadn’t found his sister, but because he had come back to see her, nonetheless.
"It’s indeed difficult looking by yourself, but you will definitely find her."
Jun Wuxian didn’t elaborate much. How could he be the only one looking when Xiaojiu went missing?
"Right now, my greatest wish is for her to be safe and sound."

Shen Chuwei had been traveling for eight days, alternating between riding the horse and sitting in the horse carriage, using the carriage when the ride became too painful.
She had learned from her experience, placing a sponge cushion retrieved from her Space on the saddle after a severe chafing incident, which allowed her to ride for a whole day.
As usual, she stayed overnight at an inn.
With nightfall, Shen Chuwei leaned on the railing of the second floor, gazing up at the crescent moon, missing her precious son and daughter, and worrying even more about Xiao Jinyan.
She wondered if Xiao Jinyan had found her already.
Xiao Jinyu pushed the door open and stepped out, recognizing the figure at the railing not far away under the overhead light as Shen Chuwei.
He walked over, "Sister-in-law, not asleep yet?"
Shen Chuwei shifted to a more comfortable position, tilting her head to look at the approaching Xiao Jinyu, "Aren’t you up as well?"
"I’m missing my wife," Xiao Jinyu admitted, sitting down on the railing and fanning himself. "I’ve never been away from her for this long; it feels quite strange to suddenly be apart for so many days."
Shen Chuwei nodded in understanding, "It would be abnormal for a man not to miss his wife."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Jinyu stared at Shen Chuwei for several seconds before it dawned on him, and he chuckled, "Sister-in-law, you get it."
