Chapter 590: Chapter 483: Would You Marry an Ugly Monster? Stayed With Her All Night_Part 2

"Before, I even told my brother, ’What if I’m too picky and can’t get married?’ Now it’s not about me choosing someone else, it’s them choosing me. Even so, I don’t want to marry just anyone,"

"In this lifetime, I’m destined to be alone."

The last sentence, Xun Qingqing said it in an extremely soft voice as if she was talking to herself.

Jun Wuxian, with his exceptional hearing, still heard her. He looked down at Xun Qingqing and saw her eyes tightly closed, her breathing even, clearly asleep.

When had he ever seen such a heartbroken and distressed Xun Qingqing?

The Xun Qingqing he knew was confident and a bit haughty, but just enough to be likable.

Yet, disfigurement had crushed even that bit of pride.

Noticing she was holding onto a corner of his sleeve, he then realized she had grabbed it earlier and hadn’t let go since.

At this moment, the General Residence was brightly lit.

Chu Zhao rushed back to the Capital overnight, galloping straight to the General Residence.

As soon as Chu Zhao dismounted at the General Residence, he was stopped by two Guards, "The General is busy and is not receiving guests."

Chu Zhao didn’t waste words and stated his purpose directly, "I am here on Miss Xun’s orders to see the General."

The Guards exchanged a glance then led Chu Zhao to see the General.

General Xun was already in his early fifties, his skin a healthy wheat color from years of campaigning outdoors.

He and his son had searched day and night without finding his precious daughter, and his spirit was clearly not as strong as before.

A Guard came in advance to report, "General, someone claiming to be sent by the young mistress wishes to see you."

Upon hearing news of his daughter, the General immediately perked up, "Let him in."

Following the Guard, Chu Zhao walked in, stepped forward, and greeted with a fist-and-palm salute, "General Xun, Miss Xun asked me to come back and tell you that she is safe and well and to reassure you."

The General stood up abruptly and demanded, "Where is my daughter? Why hasn’t she returned herself and sent you to bring the message instead?"

Chu Zhao replied calmly, "Rest assured, General, Miss Xun will return tomorrow, and you can ask her in person then."

Xun Changfeng stepped forward, pressing further, "Are you certain my sister is safe and sound now?"

Chu Zhao said, "Miss Xun is safe. It would be better for the General to ask Miss Xun in person about what happened, tomorrow."

After repeated confirmations, General Xun finally believed that his daughter was still alright.

The next day, when Xun Qingqing awoke, she saw Jun Wuxian sitting by her bedside, and noticing his unblinking stare, her face turned red.

"Why are you still at my bedside?"

Jun Wuxian glanced at the large piece of his sleeve in her hand, "See for yourself."

Xun Qingqing looked at her hand with confusion and realized she was gripping Jun Wuxian’s sleeve tightly, and it was even under her head.

She had been holding it all night?

Jun Wuxian, seeing it was already daylight and wanting to go freshen up, found that his sleeve was being gripped and pressed down by Xun Qingqing. He didn’t use force because he was afraid to wake her, and so, he just continued to sit and wait for her to awake.

Xun Qingqing, feeling embarrassed, let go of his sleeve, allowing Jun Wuxian to leave.

After they both washed up, they sat at the dining table for a meal.

Jun Wuxian used his chopsticks to eat leisurely, "After lunch, I will take you back."

Xun Qingqing nodded vigorously, "Yes, they must be very worried about me."

Jun Wuxian served her plenty of dishes, "Eat more, if your parents see you’ve lost weight, they’ll definitely be distressed."

"Now, they can’t force me to go on blind dates anymore. Who would want a freak like me?" Xun Qingqing said as she ate the dishes Jun Wuxian had served her, still unable to accept the fact that she was disfigured after one night.

Jun Wuxian reassured her, "What’s most important is the inside. A pretty shell is dime a dozen, but an interesting spirit is one in a million, understand?"

Xun Qingqing felt that phrase seemed very familiar, as if she had seen it somewhere.

Suddenly, it clicked.

She remembered, it was a line from a storybook.

Looking at Jun Wuxian with curiosity, she asked, "Where did you hear this phrase from?"

Uh! At her question, Jun Wuxian paused, then evasively said, "Heard it in passing."

Xun Qingqing didn’t believe him, "Why do I remember it being from a storybook?"

Jun Wuxian served her more food, "Eat, we should return soon, or your parents will start to worry."

Xun Qingqing cast a doubtful glance at Jun Wuxian, feeling like he was deceiving her.

When they arrived back at the General Residence it was already afternoon, and General Xun and the others were waiting anxiously inside.

When the Guard saw a horse carriage stop at the gate and discerned the person coming down from it, he hesitated for a few seconds.

Chu Zhao stepped forward and reminded, "What are you doing standing around? Go tell the General that Miss Xun has returned."

After snapping back to reality, the Guard stood frozen for a while, then turned and ran inside, "General, General, the young mistress has returned."

Xun Qingqing walked with Jun Wuxian into the General Residence, and as they reached the main hall, she saw her father, mother, and brother, suddenly feeling overwhelmed with emotion.

She threw herself into her father’s arms, "Father."

The General looked his daughter over, his gaze finally resting on the veil over her cheek, and asked with confusion, "Qingqing, what on earth has happened? Why did you suddenly disappear? And why are you wearing a veil over your face?"

General Xun’s wife saw her daughter weeping inconsolably.

Seeing the faces of her parents, which seemed to have aged several years, Xun Qingqing couldn’t hold back her tears, "Father, it’s a long story. Let’s go inside, and I will explain everything."

The General took hold of his daughter’s wrist and walked inside, "Alright, we’ll talk inside."

Xun Qingqing took a few steps, then remembering Jun Wuxian behind her, she hastily stopped, turned around, and looked at him.

Jun Wuxian, with a hand-held folding fan, watched the scene before him with a composed expression. That is until Xun Qingqing turned around, he smiled slightly, finally remembering they still had to acknowledge his critical role in her rescue.

Xun Qingqing introduced, "Father, let me introduce him. This is Jun Wuxian, a friend of mine and also the person who saved my life."

General Xun turned to look at Jun Wuxian, he chuckled softly, "So it is Mr. Jun. Please, come this way."

Jun Wuxian nodded and followed them in.

Xun Qingqing told her father and family everything about what she had experienced, in detail.

Upon hearing the entire story, General Xun grew furious on the spot, drew his sword, and was ready to storm out, "That Mei Yisi, daring to harm my daughter, I will catch him and bring him to justice."

Xun Qingqing stepped forward to stop General Xun and revealed the truth, "Father, I have already killed Mei Yisi."

She didn’t mention that it was Jun Wuxian who did it. Jun Wuxian had already saved her; she couldn’t let him carry the burden of a murder charge as well.

If the incident were to leak, it would have nothing to do with Jun Wuxian.

Jun Wuxian’s tea-drinking motion paused, and he looked up at Xun Qingqing, puzzled.
