Chapter 83 - 68 Sudden Attack
Chapter 83: Chapter 68 Sudden Attack
The heavy armored vehicle drove on the empty road, the buildings on both sides were silent and deserted. Even though it was still daytime, there was no one on the streets, and many places were overgrown with wild grass, unattended by anyone.
"This place is too close to the Ruined District, the public security is poor, and occasionally there are some dangerous incidents. That’s why few people choose to live here, but as an investigator, I often come this way because many Cultivators who have committed crimes think of fleeing into the Ruined District first."
Inside the vehicle, Wang Jian’s gaze swept through the surroundings from behind the windows.
The buildings were unfamiliar to others, but he knew them quite well.
However, as Wang Jian was surveying the area, suddenly, he caught a glimpse of something from the corner of his eye. Unsure, he immediately had Zheng Gong, who was driving next to him, turn slightly to the left.
After adjusting his line of sight, Wang Jian’s face immediately changed.
Not just him, Zheng Gong, the driver, also noticed something and instinctively slammed on the brakes, exclaiming, "What, what is that thing lying on that building? Did I see it wrong?"
The other people inside the vehicle quickly followed the line of sight of the two in front and their pupils suddenly constricted.
They saw a huge, monster-like humanoid silhouette lying in the shadow on the wall of a nearby building that was not very occupied. The person’s entire body was a grayish-white color, with long limbs, each arm stretching at least ten meters, and every hand and foot embedded deeply into the concrete wall like claws, fixing the massive body securely in place, reminiscent of a giant Spider-man.
"Where the hell did this monster come from?" Chen Hao also widened his eyes, incredulous.
"It’s a Spider-man from the danger zone, not a creature of our world, and usually, they move in groups, extremely dangerous," He Xiong said, squinting his eyes and instinctively gripping the firearm in his hand tighter. "It’s just... this is the biggest one I’ve ever seen."
Li Yi also remained calm, "I’ve encountered them in the danger zone too. Last time, two of my companions died at the hands of a group of Spider-men. But the Spider-men I saw before were only four to five meters in size and had eight hands and were gray and black. But this one is different, not only missing several pairs of limbs, but its color is different, and it’s unreasonably huge."
"Even though the physique and color are somewhat different, I can tell, this monster is the same kind as those Spider-men."
Wang Jian immediately growled, "He Xiong, use the bullets for dealing with extraordinary creatures and kill that thing; we can’t let it roam freely in the city."
"Understood." He Xiong immediately took out a special bullet painted with red lacquer.
He worked the bolt, loaded the round.
With only one hand, He Xiong was still able to easily handle the sniper rifle.
"Zheng Gong, once the creature is hit, immediately prepare to retreat, don’t hesitate," Wang Jian instructed again.
"I understand." Zheng Gong’s face was tense with sweat; this was his first mission, and he did not expect to encounter such an incredible monster.
If such a monster couldn’t be taken down with one shot, it could very likely become enraged and charge at them, putting them in danger.
"I’m ready; the monster hasn’t noticed us, the probability of hitting it is very high. Wang Jian, where should I shoot this time?" He Xiong whispered.
Wang Jian immediately responded, "Don’t aim for the head, aim for its chest area with the first shot. Even if it doesn’t die from one shot, as long as it’s severely wounded, it’s still a win. With the power of the Transcendent M200 sniper rifle, if that thing’s body isn’t tough, one shot might be enough to blow it open."
"Okay."
He Xiong finished speaking, then, standing with a stoop inside the vehicle, he skillfully opened the top hatch, stepped on the pedal, half of his body protruded from the vehicle, and he immediately set up the sniper rifle, aiming it directly at the humanoid monster lying on the distant building.
The whole process was smooth and fluid, as He Xiong knew that these terrifying creatures had extremely high alertness. Just aiming from afar could trigger their attention, so, before being ready to make a move, you couldn’t even prepare to aim, or else you would certainly spook them.
However, just as He Xiong was about to take the shot.
Suddenly.
He Xiong sensed something, his body hair standing on end, as a terrifying sense of danger fixed on him from nearby.
At this moment, Li Yi inside the vehicle also became alert, his eyes glowing as he looked in the direction of the right side of the vehicle.
But all he saw from the corner of his eye was a huge shadow swooshing by.
"Not good, He Xiong, abort the snipe and retreat back in," Wang Jian immediately bellowed.
He realized that other dangers were lurking nearby; all of the people inside the armored vehicle had already been targeted. It was just because no one had left the vehicle that they had not been attacked. Now, with He Xiong exposed outside for the sniper shot at the huge Spider-man, he had given the other party an opportunity to strike.
This was a classic case of "the mantis stalks the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind."
He Xiong, rich in experience, almost immediately abandoned the sniping upon sensing danger and rapidly withdrew into the vehicle.
The huge shadow flashed by, and a fetid gust of wind howled through the top window overhead, like a heavy truck speeding by, capable of killing someone with just a touch under that force.
Fortunately, He Xiong managed to retract his body in time, narrowly avoiding the terrible strike.
But the tremendous force of the impact fell upon the armored vehicle.
In an instant.
The thick armored vehicle was flipped by a monstrous force, then slid across the ground for several meters before finally rolling over against the wall beside it.
"Roar!"
Outside, a roar like that of a wild beast echoed, causing heads to buzz.
"We can’t be trapped in the carriage; we’ll all die if we do. Break out, and as soon as you see that thing outside, use Eye Witness to restrain it. Then adjust our formation. I’ll draw it away first, and you all be careful," Wang Jian immediately shouted. Then he prepared to open the carriage door, to buy time for others to escape.
"Wait, wait, Wang Jian, the sniper rifle is lost," He Xiong said with an ugly expression, revealing critical information.
Without the Extraordinary M200 sniper rifle, they had lost their trump card against the beast.
Wang Jian was taken aback, then said, "It must have been lost nearby during the attack. Let’s break out together, and while restraining it, see if we can retrieve it."
However, just then, the door on one side of the carriage suddenly opened.
A nimble figure burst out of the carriage.
"Li Yi, don’t be rash," Wang Jian shouted, trying to stop him, but it was too late.
Li Yi was the first to rush out.
But at this moment, everyone understood that Li Yi wasn’t running away; he was buying time for everyone. The first person to charge out of the carriage was in the most danger and was most likely to be targeted by the unknown Fierce Beast outside, maybe even killed the moment he showed his face.
"I’m wearing clothes made from Qiu Dragon Skin, which have the highest survival rate; I’m the best candidate for this," was the only thought in Li Yi’s mind.
Although he knew it was dangerous, Wang Jian’s action had inspired him.
In such a crisis, Wang Jian’s first thought was to risk his own safety to buy time and protect the others, so Li Yi was willing to step forward and help his teammates.
Sure enough.
As soon as he broke out of the carriage, another beastly roar sounded next to his ear, followed by a whiff of a foul wind.
Almost in the blink of an eye, a huge, burly black figure appeared before Li Yi.
Li Yi’s pupils suddenly contracted, wanting to counterattack, but it was too late.
A thick arm covered in black fur was already swinging toward him.
The strength was terrifying—should it hit, Li Yi had no doubt his head would explode on impact.
Fortunately, he was prepared, lifting his arms in a defensive stance.
"Bang!"
A loud noise.
Li Yi was instantly knocked flying by a powerful force, crashing through the tempered glass of a nearby abandoned shop, rolling and sliding, destroying countless pieces of shop furniture and items before finally slamming heavily into a wall and coming to a stop.
After the strike, the Fierce Beast seemed to realize that Li Yi wasn’t dead, roaring as it prepared to pounce again.
But Li Yi had bought precious time for the others.
By then, Wang Jian, He Xiong, Chen Hao, and Zheng Gong, who had been driving, had seized the opportunity to rush out of the carriage and had already adjusted their positions.
Then, the four men’s eyes emitted white light, dazzling in an instant.
Eye Witness!
The four men, working together, locked onto the tall black figure.
The Fierce Beast’s movements stalled for a moment.
Only then did the group get a clear look at the monster attacking their armored vehicle.
It was a black bear, standing over three meters tall, covered in black fur and walking upright. Unlike an ordinary black bear, this one’s head resembled more a human’s, with hair on its face that had fallen out, revealing gray-black skin. Its eyes were both ferocious and cunning—not like a wild animal, but rather like a wild man wearing a fur coat.
"This is a Bear Demon, a Fierce Beast in the midst of Evolution. If it continues to cultivate, it won’t be long before it morphs into an Extraordinary Creature. There were legends about Bear Demons in the north, and this one we’re facing is terrifying, likely having the strength of the inspiration realm," He Xong’s face changed dramatically as he seemed to recognize the creature.
A Bear Demon, like Biao and Mountain Demons, was a beast that had reached a certain level of cultivation, hovering between beast and demon.
While He Xong was sharing this information, his eyes were quickly scanning the ground around them.
He was looking for the sniper rifle.
Although the Bear Demon was terrifying, his sniper rifle was stronger. As long as he got it in his hands, and with his teammates’ distractions, he was certain they could take down the beast.
