Chapter 82: Chapter 67: Sudden Mission
Li Yi had been at the training base for over ten days and his gains were considerable. Not only had he mastered the use of various firearms, but he had also roughly perfected his Combat Skill. During this period, he also engaged in Meditation with the aid of Mysterious Objects. Although he was still far from reaching the level where he could unlock his inspiration, his physical fitness had undeniably been greatly enhanced, filling in some deficiencies caused by cultivating too quickly before.
After a period of settling down, Li Yi could clearly feel that his strength had once again improved significantly.
However, considering he had already spent a lot of time here, he found himself having to bid farewell to Li Shudi today and leave Training Area Two.
"Oh, you’re leaving so soon? You still need to practice your Combat Skill more, there might be room for further improvement," Li Shudi said, expressing surprise at Li Yi’s sudden departure.
Li Yi replied, "Although I would like to continue practicing with Instructor Li, there are many things waiting for me outside, and I cannot afford to spend too much time at the training base. That’s why I plan to quickly pass the qualifications in the other two training areas."
Though he said this, he knew in his heart that if he continued to stay at the training ground, he would probably end up broke.
He had spent a substantial sum of money on firearms training, and these past ten days he had also spent a considerable amount on nutrient solutions. Although he still had some savings, living off of them was not sustainable—he needed to live, move to a new home soon, and cultivation would continue to cost money.
"But you can’t really learn anything new in Training Area Two, I’ve taught you all I can. Your Combat Skill is impressive, and staying here any longer would just be a waste of time. It’s better for you to gain experience from missions outside, which will contribute more to your progress. Go ahead, I will sign your qualification certificate, don’t worry," Li Shudi said, nodding his head.
"Thank you for the guidance these past days, Instructor Li," Li Yi said earnestly. "When I completely perfect my Combat Skill, I will definitely promote it far and wide."
"Good, I look forward to that day," Li Shudi said with a smile.
Without further ado, Li Yi said his goodbyes to Li Shudi and then prepared to head to Training Area Three.
Training Area Three specialized in cold weapons and Li Yi did not plan to waste time. He aimed to obtain qualification quickly and then leave.
"Li Yi!"
Suddenly, a voice called out on the training ground, halting him as he was about to leave.
Li Yi turned around and saw a towering, burly man striding towards him.
Lu Yue?
Li Yi was somewhat surprised. Looking over, he noticed that the injuries Lu Yue had received from him had mostly healed in the past ten days, and he was full of vigor once more. The life force of cultivators was strong, and their self-healing abilities were remarkable.
"Lu Yue, what’s the matter?" he asked.
Lu Yue looked at Li Yi and said, "I thought you had already left the training base. I didn’t expect you to still be in Training Area Two. Li Yi, have you forgotten something?"
"I don’t know what you mean," Li Yi thought for a moment, then shook his head.
"I lost to you in our last sparring. But before we sparred, I said that if you could beat me, I would give you the two million I won from Chen Hao," Lu Yue said. "I don’t have your contact information, and no one else here knows you well, so I’ve been waiting for you here."
Li Yi was taken aback: "All this for that? I had already forgotten about it."
"You might have forgotten, but I haven’t," Lu Yue replied, slightly annoyed. "Send me your card number, and I’ll transfer the money immediately."
Li Yi said casually, "Never mind, I went a bit too far and had you laid up for over ten days. Consider that money compensation for your medical expenses."
Lu Yue immediately retorted, "We should keep these issues separate. I lost, and I admit it. Li Yi, don’t be so soft. Two million is nothing to me, the money I’ve earned during training is much more than that."
"Alright, if you say so, then I won’t hold back and will accept it," Li Yi said, giving in.
He didn’t persist further, took out his phone to add Lu Yue as a friend, and sent his card number over.
Lu Yue transferred the money right away and then said, "Li Yi, even though I can’t beat you now, once I also learn Techniques, I’ll come back to challenge you. Don’t try to wriggle out of it then."
"Whenever you feel confident you can beat me, feel free to come and spar with me," Li Yi smiled. "But from what I see, you won’t have that chance again."
He wasn’t bragging; it was because he had cultivated with the aid of Mysterious Objects, while this Lu Yue was just an ordinary cultivator. No matter what, he couldn’t keep up with his own growth rate.
"I know you’ve been learning martial arts from Instructor Li recently, and you’ve definitely gotten stronger, but don’t underestimate me. Just because you’ve improved doesn’t mean I can’t," Lu Yue said as he left with a competitive fire burning within him.
Li Yi watched him go without saying anything.
Upon arriving at Training Area Three,
there were also many cultivators participating in training. As soon as Li Yi arrived, he saw many people practicing various cold weapon techniques. It seemed that, compared to hand-to-hand combat, cold weapons were somewhat more popular, after all, these weapons could significantly increase a cultivator’s close-combat capabilities.
It was just as Brother Tao had said: cultivators might have high physical quality, but they were not yet so strong as to withstand blades and swords, especially those made from special steel that were extremely sharp and posed a great threat to cultivators.
Li Yi watched for a while and was about to find an instructor for guidance when, suddenly, his phone rang.
Li Yi checked the call and found that it was from Wang Jian.
"Hello, Wang Jian, it’s me, Li Yi," he answered the call.
"Li Yi, how’s your training going? It’s been over ten days, and you haven’t reported your progress to me," Wang Jian said.
Li Yi said, "I just entered Training Zone Three, I was delayed for a while practicing martial arts in Training Zone Two, what’s up?"
"There’s a mission and I’m short on manpower, so your training is on hold for now. Come to the entrance of the training facility, my vehicle is on its way, and I’ll pick you up." Wang Jian said immediately.
"So sudden?" Li Yi expressed his surprise.
His training was not yet complete, yet Wang Jian already needed him.
"Can’t help it. If it weren’t for an urgent mission, I wouldn’t pull you out of the training area. But with your abilities, having finished Zone One and well enough in Zone Two, the remaining training in Zones Three and Four wouldn’t benefit you much. If you want to continue training, you can come back anytime after the mission. Okay, that’s it. Get ready and we’ll talk more when we meet." Wang Jian said and then hung up the phone without giving Li Yi a chance to ask any questions.
Seeing this, Li Yi didn’t complain. After all, Wang Jian was indeed busy and had that kind of work style, so right after hanging up, Li Yi turned around and left Training Zone Three.
Back at the dormitory of the training facility, he took a quick shower, still put on the Qiu Dragon Skin clothing, drank enough Golden Nutrient Liquid, took the damaged Sword Coin with him and headed straight for the facility’s main gate.
He checked the time.
Only ten minutes had passed.
Li Yi waited a few more minutes at the entrance of the training facility, and a special armored vehicle sped towards him, coming to a halt in front of him.
The vehicle door opened.
Wang Jian’s voice came from inside, "Li Yi, get in."
Li Yi didn’t delay and immediately got into the vehicle.
The door closed, the engine roared, and the armored vehicle sped off.
Once aboard, Li Yi was finally able to see the people in the car.
A stranger was driving, Wang Jian sat in the passenger seat, and He Xiong, who previously had an arm severed, was beside him, holding a somewhat familiar sniper rifle in his other hand. In the back seat, there was someone whom Li Yi recognized at a glance.
"Chen Hao?" Li Yi was a bit surprised.
This Chen Hao was the cultivator who had been defeated by Lu Yue in practice before.
"Li Yi, hello, I didn’t expect to team up with you on this mission. I heard about what happened in the training area, how you defeated Lu Yue with one punch and gave that guy a good lesson. I thought you had finished training and left already. If I had known you were still there, I would have sought you out earlier to get acquainted," Chen Hao nodded, his words conveying admiration for Li Yi.
"I’ve been learning from Instructor Li and don’t show my face often; it’s normal for you not to know about me. How are you feeling? Is your injury from before healed?" Li Yi responded.
"No problem, it’s healed," Chen Hao said, clenching his fist. "But Lu Yue really hit hard, nearly burst my eye. Luckily, you sent him to the hospital, otherwise I don’t know how many colleagues he would have hurt."
"Glad to hear you’re okay," Li Yi said.
"Let me introduce myself, my name is Zheng Gong, I’m also an investigator, though I’m still on probation," the young man driving turned his head to glance back at him, then smiled and greeted.
"Hello, my name is Li Yi, I’m a field operative. What’s the situation this time, for the action to be so sudden?" Li Yi was puzzled, especially since the vehicle they were driving was different from usual.
Usually, Wang Jian carried out missions in a regular vehicle, but this time it was an armored car, and even the weapons were special.
"Something dangerous has snuck into the urban area, and we need to deal with it."
Wang Jian said in a low voice, "It’s very sudden and unusual. Right now, all the active investigators we have are mobilized. I didn’t want to pull you into this mission, but considering we were passing the training facility and you have considerable strength, I decided to bring you along."
"After all, having an extra pair of hands is always good."
Li Yi frowned, "Will there be any extraordinary creatures? I see you’ve even brought a sniper rifle."
"Just as a precaution," He Xong laughed, "Can’t be without some heavy firepower, right? Otherwise, what do we do in an emergency? Li Yi, you completed Zone One training; how’s your shooting?"
"Not bad," Li Yi replied, "Why do you ask?"
"Just wondering, I want to understand the team’s capabilities in advance," He Xiong said.
At this point, Li Yi asked, "By the way, Wang Jian, how much do we get paid for a mission like this?"
"One hundred thousand," Wang Jian replied.
"That little?" Li Yi was surprised.
Wang Jian explained, "That’s just the basic mission fee. If you manage to kill a fierce beast or a transcendent creature, there will be extra rewards. Don’t worry, you won’t be shortchanged."
"Good to know," Li Yi finally felt relieved.
