Chapter 60: Chapter 49 Cooperation

"The commotion has stopped..."

Beneath an old residential building.

Ning Wu concealed herself in the shadows of a corner. Her eyes were closed as she sensed the events unfolding upstairs. However, due to the distance, her inspiration couldn’t reach, and she had to rely on various sounds to discern the situation roughly.

From the recent screams and sounds of fighting, one could infer:

A brutal battle had erupted between Crow and his seven men and Li Yi. Moreover, the battle had not gone smoothly, and the losses on their side must have been significant.

But everything happened too quickly and ended just as abruptly.

The fight had lasted only about a minute from start to finish.

"Did they succeed or fail? With so many people against one Li Yi, failure seemed impossible. Li Yi had only been cultivating for a month, whereas Crow and his men were very experienced cultivators. There’s no reason they couldn’t subdue a young boy." Ning Wu slowly opened her eyes, furrowing her brow slightly.

She wanted to go upstairs to check but held back.

She didn’t want to get directly involved in this matter.

Otherwise, if the investigators came, she couldn’t dissociate herself, and the Mysterious Object needed someone to take it. If Ning Wu got involved, then the Mysterious Object would become evidence, possibly attracting the investigators’ attention, leading to more trouble.

"I’ll go check it out."

Suddenly, a cultivator emerged from another alley. His name was Kong Sheng, assigned to keep watch on the outer perimeter to prevent any mishaps.

"Why did you suddenly come over here? Nevermind, the matter is over anyway. Go check it out, and report back immediately if there are issues," Ning Wu thought for a moment and then nodded in agreement to Kong Sheng’s request.

Kong Sheng, without wasting words, immediately rushed into the building and sprinted up the stairs.

Quickly.

On his way up, he saw two Spirit Medium Realm cultivators lying in a pool of blood in the corridor, motionless.

"Dead?"

Kong Sheng felt a chill in his heart and cautiously approached the doorway.

The dim room was in disarray, deathly still.

He peered slightly inside and was immediately stunned by the gruesome scene. He saw bodies strewn about the room, all of the cultivators who had participated in this operation. Among them, Crow was slumped against the wall by the window, his head drooped and body limp, motionless, and one of his arms appeared to be broken, twisted out of shape.

"Everyone’s gone? How is that possible? Is Li Yi really that formidable?"

Kong Sheng was shocked.

However, it was at this moment that he suddenly sensed danger, his hair standing on end.

A figure darted out, and then was already at his front.

Kong Sheng only saw the huge shadow in front of him, a pair of eyes brimming with murderous intent shining brightly, chilling him to the bone.

"Don’t attack, I’m a friend of Lv Jue," he hurriedly shouted out this sentence.

The next moment.

A fist accompanied by a terrifying explosive noise stopped right in front of his eyes.

The blast of the fist wind was so strong that he could barely keep his eyes open.

"Lv Jue’s friend? Are you the one who tipped him off, saying someone was coming to kill me?" Accompanied by Li Yi’s voice, the fist that had stopped in front of Kong Sheng slowly lowered.

Kong Sheng felt his heart, which had constricted violently just moments ago, start beating again, his back drenched in cold sweat. If that punch had not stopped, his head would likely have been blown apart.

Too ferocious.

With Li Yi being so fierce, how could Crow and his men have the courage to kill others?

Kong Sheng, without a chance to calm himself, hurriedly said, "Yes, I’m the one who tipped off Lv Jue. He told me about your matter. You two are friends, and I’ve heard about you from him. Since we all know each other, I chose to betray this mission. However, I only received the specific mission details about ten minutes ago; I didn’t know beforehand that the target was you."

"I see. It seems I owe you my thanks. Without your information, I wouldn’t have had the chance to react, and might really have been killed by Crow and his group," Li Yi looked at Kong Sheng and gradually reined in his boiling intent to kill.

"However, it’s not just Crow alone involved in this; that woman must be too. She and Crow are in cahoots."’

Kong Sheng nodded, "Are you talking about Ning Wu? Right, the people involved this time were hired by her, and right now, she’s downstairs."

"Downstairs? Good, very good. With so many lives on her conscience, one more won’t matter." Upon hearing this, Li Yi’s recently subdued killing intent was ignited once again, and he immediately headed toward the door.

"Wait, wait a minute." Suddenly, Kong Sheng called out to him.

"What’s wrong?" Li Yi stopped and looked back.

Kong Sheng whispered, "Ning Wu is a cultivator of the inspiration realm, and her strength is extraordinary. She refrained from getting involved this time because she didn’t want to get her hands dirty and attract the investigators’ scrutiny. Going to find her now might put you in danger."

"Inspiration realm? So what, whether I can win or not, we’ll only know after the fight, and if I don’t kill her today, she will kill me. There’s no avoiding it." Li Yi’s expression remained unchanged, showing no fear whatsoever.

Although a Cultivator one level higher was formidable, as long as Ning Wu had not mastered any Techniques, he was confident enough to compete.

"Not just that, this time to be cautious, Ning Wu also hired a wanted criminal named Wang Kui. Wang Kui’s strength is only at the Spirit Medium Realm, but he has a sniper rifle, which was originally developed by the investigation bureau to deal with Cultivators and Extraordinary Creatures. After he killed an investigator and stole the gun, he escaped to the Ruined District, and he has used this rifle to kill at least six Cultivators, including one from the inspiration realm."

Kong Sheng revealed a crucial piece of intelligence at this moment.

A sniper rifle?

Good Lord, that Ning Wu is really ruthless, resorting to using a gun against me.

Li Yi’s face changed instantly, "Where is Wang Kui now? Why hasn’t he made a move earlier?"

"I don’t know, Wang Kui is a wanted criminal and can’t easily show his face. I guess he’s hiding somewhere in this old district. As for why he didn’t make a move earlier, I think it’s because Ning Wu believed Crow could take you down, so she didn’t want Wang Kui to get involved. She hired Wang Kui just as a precaution, after all, once the gun fires, things change."

"Moreover, when I was scouting nearby earlier, I intentionally looked for Wang Kui’s traces, unfortunately, I found nothing. But I suspect Wang Kui is in that residential building behind Ning Wu, because that’s the only place I didn’t search."

"I’ll go kill Wang Kui, and you think of a way to keep Ning Wu busy. After I’ve dealt with him, I’ll come back to handle her," Li Yi thought for a moment and spoke earnestly.

Kong Sheng immediately panicked, "This, this I can’t do."

"At this point, neither you nor I have a choice. You either kill me and report back to Ning Wu, or we join forces to eliminate them. Isn’t Wang Kui a wanted criminal? After I kill him, the bounty’s yours. Additionally, I’ll give you ten million privately, and when the investigation bureau’s people arrive, I can testify that you’re my friend and innocent. The whole thing won’t have anything to do with you; you can clean your hands of it," Li Yi said.

"And I asked you to keep Ning Wu busy, not to fight her. Just stall her a bit, give me enough time to take care of Wang Kui."

He made a substantial offer because money was inconsequential at this time.

As he finished speaking, Kong Sheng’s expression fluctuated, wavering in indecision.

The risk was present, but the gain was significant.

Considering Wang Kui’s personal bounty was already a whopping eight million, plus the ten million from Li Yi, he could indeed make a substantial profit.

Plus, if successful, not only would he earn clean money, but he could potentially clear himself of any murder charges, achieving two aims with one move.

If he refused.

Putting aside whether Li Yi would kill him, it would be hard to explain to Ning Wu, and he would also bear a murder charge.

"Okay, I’ve thought it through, I agree," Kong Sheng took a deep breath and made his decision.

If going to betray, then betray thoroughly.

Wavering between decisions, offending both sides.

He also trusted his friend Lv Jue’s judgment that Li Yi was worth associating with.

"Good, I’m familiar with this old district. I’ll track down Wang Kui; you be careful. If you really can’t manage it, make some noise, and I will show up,"

Having said that, Li Yi did not hesitate any further but headed straight back home. He ignored the corpses scattered everywhere, leaped through the window, and disappeared from Kong Sheng’s sight.

Kong Sheng didn’t hesitate either, immediately heading downstairs, retracing his steps.

Soon.

He exited the dilapidated residential building.

Ning Wu was standing in a shadow not far away, looking at Kong Sheng with some suspicion, "What’s the situation upstairs, and who were you talking to just now?"

Kong Sheng, quick-witted, immediately said, "The situation upstairs is bleak, several are dead, some severely injured and unconscious. The intelligence was wrong. Li Yi’s strength is beyond ordinary Spirit Medium Realm Cultivators. I observed the bodies, and each one had Fist Marks on them."

"Those Fist Marks are terrifying, seeming to be some kind of Boxing Techniques. Also, Crow is in very bad shape right now, he’s ruined an arm, I was just communicating with him."

"Ning Wu, I suggest you immediately dial emergency services to get people revived first, as for Li Yi, I advise you not to bother. When I went upstairs earlier, I didn’t see him, probably injured and fled."

"Impossible, how can this be." Hearing this, Ning Wu’s face turned grim.

She thought Li Yi had been successfully killed, and currently, Crow was in Li Yi’s house searching for the Mysterious Object, never expecting the situation to be like this.

Not only had the operation failed, suffered heavy casualties, but Li Yi had also escaped.

"That’s the situation, if you don’t believe it, you can go up and check. I’m not lying, and Crow is almost unable to hold on, it’s uncertain whether he can make it," Kong Sheng said.

"Damn it."

At that moment, Ning Wu could no longer restrain herself; she no longer cared whether she would be implicated in this major case. She strode forward, her figure swiftly moved out of the shadows, and she went up the stairs, reaching the third floor in the blink of an eye.

Kong Sheng seeing his ruse had been successful, he sighed in relief. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a figure flitting by, disappearing into the residential building opposite.

"Li Yi has started his move," he thought to himself.
