Chapter 1014: Chapter 1013 Lu Mian is Better Than You

After school that day, Lu Yutian finally took the time to visit the hospital.

Xiaoyang greeted her in the corridor, giving a brief update on the old man’s condition.

"Miss Yutian, the old man just had his eye stitches removed yesterday. The doctor said his vision has recovered to ninety percent. He’s in a great mood and has been cheerful all day."

Lu Yutian, however, wore a gloomy expression and responded indifferently with a simple "Mm."

"The eldest master, the madam, and the young master all came by earlier in the day. They chatted about some family matters and mentioned you."

Lu Yutian’s heels came to a halt. "What did they say about me?"

"They said that both you and Lu Mian are in the Elite Class now," Xiaoyang answered truthfully.

Lu Yutian did not want to hear this name. She was only interested in knowing how her uncle and aunt perceived her—what her standing was in their hearts.

"What else did they say about me?" She had no desire to hear anything related to Lu Mian.

Xiaoyang shook his head. "Rest assured, Miss Yutian, nothing else."

Lu Yutian: ...

This is worse than saying nothing at all!

The girl in high heels, clearly displeased, stomped her foot, the sound notably louder than before.

Just then, they arrived at the hospital room. Without even knocking, Lu Yutian pushed open the door and walked in with a sullen face.

Lu Beihua, who had been resting, was awakened from his half-asleep state by the sound of her heels. Opening his eyes, the first thing he saw was the less-than-happy face of his granddaughter, Lu Yutian.

The old man furrowed his brow slightly.

"Grandpa."

"Mm."

Lu Beihua gestured, and Xiaoyang immediately adjusted the hospital bed to help him sit up.

Lu Yutian, on the other hand, casually seated herself in a chair nearby. She picked up a fruit knife and began peeling an apple.

Seeing this, Lu Beihua felt increasingly uncomfortable. This granddaughter who barely visited once in two weeks—when she finally did show up, she exuded an air that made it unclear if she was here to visit him or to show her displeasure.

His earlier good mood dissipated at once.

Lu Beihua turned his face away and picked up a newspaper from the bedside table, his attitude noticeably cooler.

Lu Yutian, preoccupied with her own thoughts, failed to notice these subtle changes. While peeling the apple, she muttered discontentedly, "Grandpa, back at Chixia Sect, why didn’t you speak to Elder Jing for me? I lost so much face in front of my classmates."

Lu Beihua looked at the newspaper unhurriedly. "What, were you bullied at school?"

"Not exactly bullied; it’s just that when the family could’ve helped me out, why didn’t anyone handle things for me? I’m in the Elite Class now, studying artificial intelligence. Building relationships with my classmates benefits both the company and the family..."

Unable to stand it any longer, Lu Beihua folded the newspaper in his hands and gave her a cold, disappointed glance.

"While you were at your military training, I had an eye infection and ran a fever for several days. I couldn’t even think about you."

According to the surgery timeline, if not for the infection, his stitches could’ve been removed in just a week. Instead, the recovery was prolonged by more than half a month, during which he endured significant discomfort and underwent numerous tests.

Fortunately, the final results were perfect. He could now see without any issues.

A serious illness not only restored his eyesight but also gave him clarity about certain people and things.

Noticing the tense atmosphere, Xiaoyang quickly approached with a cup of warm water and a small box of medication.

"Sir, it’s time for your medicine."

Lu Beihua took the cup and medicines, double-checking, "Are all the prescriptions here?"

"Everything’s here, everything," Xiaoyang reassured.

"You didn’t mix up the blood pressure medication, did you?" Lu Beihua still felt uneasy.

The motion of Lu Yutian peeling the apple paused for a moment.

Paying no attention to her, Lu Beihua meticulously counted the medications, his caution stemming from experience. Missing a week’s worth of blood pressure pills had once caused a sudden flare-up. Though he didn’t think much of it during the incident, the memory now filled him with lingering dread.

He thought, if not for Lu Mian getting him the special medication and arranging for Ya Ling—a highly skilled doctor—to perform the surgery, he might never have recovered.

In fact, he might not even have survived the intracranial bleeding...

Thanks to Yun Sang introducing such a capable sister, he had made up his mind: once he fully recovered, he would invite Lu Mian over to the house to express his gratitude properly.

After all, the girl had saved his life, yet he didn’t even know what she looked like. It simply wouldn’t do to ignore this debt of gratitude.

Xiaoyang, bowing his head humbly, emphasized repeatedly, "It’s all correct! There won’t be a repeat of last time."

"Mm." After verifying the medicine, Lu Beihua swallowed them with water in one swift motion.

Having set down the empty cup, he showed little inclination to acknowledge Lu Yutian.

Xiaoyang tried to smooth things over. "Miss Yutian, the old man didn’t tell you before because he was worried you’d be concerned."

Lu Beihua let out a sound from his nose but said nothing.

Failing to understand her grandfather’s intentions, Lu Yutian aggressively peeled a piece of apple skin, feeling wronged. "Grandpa, I’m really busy. Schoolwork, company matters—everything requires my attention. I just hope the family could lend a hand where it can. It’s not asking much. Back at Chixia Sect, you have no idea how awkward it was for me..."

"Yes, you’re busy." Exhausted, Lu Beihua looked at his granddaughter. "When you were busy registering at school, an outsider, Lu Mian, stayed here with me for three days. She’s also attending Qing University—does she not have to register too?"

"That’s different!" Lu Yutian was annoyed at being compared to Lu Mian again. "I had an agreement with my professor, and they even held a welcome ceremony for me. I was the guest of honor—how could I not go?"

Lu Beihua’s eyes grew complicated, his gaze shifting away from Lu Yutian. He had accumulated enough disappointment and no longer wished to argue.

Softly, he murmured, "Lu Mian’s grades are better than yours. I’ve never heard her mention any welcome ceremony..."

Lu Mian!

Lu Mian!

Hearing her grandfather praise that girl—the one she loathed most—Lu Yutian felt as though a fire had ignited within her. She slammed the fruit knife and apple onto the table to express her dissatisfaction.

The old man cast a sharp look her way, and realizing her outburst, a flushed Lu Yutian quickly lowered her head.

Her grandfather was the patriarch of the Lu Family. Though he didn’t involve himself in the company’s operations, he remained the majority shareholder and held the ultimate authority.

Years ago, when her father ventured to the O Continent, it was her grandfather who provided the initial funding. For decades, his word had been law within the family.

Her impulsive actions had clearly crossed the line.

"Grandpa, I’m sorry."

Lu Beihua withdrew his sharp gaze.

Feeling even more wronged, Lu Yutian pressed into the palm of her hand fiercely, trying to compose herself.
