Chapter 99: Rex Worries For Regan

Rex’s attitude showed that the thing he wanted to talk about was not ordinary.

Evelyn was lost in her own thoughts. She had actually noticed Prince Rex’s gaze on her wrist. She was also aware that the prince didn’t like her much around her master since he had come to know that she was from Zamorin.

Her heart couldn’t help but fill with nervousness as she wondered if her master and prince Rex were going to fight over this.

Regan was unaware of her thoughts.

He looked at her pale face and said

"Go and rest in your room."

Though Evelyn wished to stay and speak for her master in case he was scolded by Prince Rex, she decided to leave. It would be best for her not to speak in between two brothers.

When she stepped inside the chambers, she saw Prince Rex sitting on the bed. She only greeted him lightly which he fortunately acknowledged. This made Evelyn’s nervousness quite less.

After this, she left the chambers. After Evelyn had left, Regan also sent Elias to his own room to have some rest.

Finally, Rex and Regan were alone inside Regan’s chambers.

"She doesn’t have the band on her wrist. Regan, did you go to Zamorin?"

Rex asked as soon as Elias left. He had actually returned two days ago to Mazic only to hear from Martha and Henry that Regan had gone to the border with Elias and Evelyn.

Rex was surprised. Actually, he was shocked because Regan had been clearly refusing to even see Evelyn and now he took her to the border with him.

But what was the sudden need to go to the border?

It was only when he saw Evelyn’s wrist a few moments ago did he have a guess inside his heart that he didn’t like at all.

"Yes"

Regan answered calmly and Rex’s lips were pressed in a thin line. Seeing Regan’s calm face, he felt frustrated as he said

"How can you be so careless, Regan? You went to Zamorin. Do you not know that William is just looking for a chance to fight back? What if he had used this opportunity to fight back? I was not even there to protect you."

Regan looked at Rex and sighed gently. He knew that Rex was just worried about him but according to him, he was overreacting.

William could do nothing to him. In fact, he wished that William would have stepped out when was in Zamorin. That would have been a good opportunity to completely defeat him and then end this war officially.

However, he didn’t voice out his thoughts out aloud seeing Rex’s anger and worry.

"Nothing happened."

He tried to comfort in his own way. Unfortunately, his words made Rex look at him exasperatedly.

"You...I don’t know what I should do with you. You don’t even think about anything before putting your life in danger. Does it even come to your mind for once what I would do if something happened to you?"

Rex’s eyes unconsciously went blurry when he said these words. He actually meant them and Regan could see it.

When their mother died, Rex had promised her that Regan would be his first and foremost responsibility. The years ago incident, where Regan got the scar on his face, was already a big shame for him. Fortunately, Regan was still alive.

He didn’t want any such incident to happen again.

Rex would not have any regret if he sacrificed his life while saving Regan but his regrets would be endless if something happened to Regan before him.

Regan was his only family in this world.

Regardless of how calm he looked, Regan actually cared for Rex. Perhaps that’s why he couldn’t see him like this.

So he stepped forward and hugged him tightly.

He didn’t know any other way of comforting him. So he said

"Don’t worry. Next time I will tell you."

Rex had actually felt moved by the hug but as soon as he heard these words, he pushed Regan away, and looking at his calm face, he couldn’t stop himself and laughed out loud in anger.

"So you must go there, huh?"

Regan unconsciously smiled in amusement when he saw him all irked and joked

"Don’t be all red in anger. Are you not afraid to become a tomato?"

Suddenly, all the anger disappeared from Rex’s face and eyes. He looked at him with a startled expression on his face, in a slight daze.

Memories from childhood flashed in front of his eyes...when their mother was still alive. Back then, Regan used to tease him the same way after making fun of him or using some tricks on him to make him angry.

It had been so long that Rex found that those memories were too blurry.

He blinked as his lips trembled to form a smile. He held Regan’s cheek tightly which was not covered by the mask and asked

"Is it because of her?"

Regan frowned as he tried to understand what Rex meant. Seeing his confusion, Rex asked again

"Your smile, is it because of her?"

Only then Regan understood what Rex meant but he merely shrugged. However, Rex could tell from his red eyes which were soft and gentle since he had mentioned Evelyn that it was surely because of Evelyn.

He had certainly underestimated Evelyn.

She could do so much more than he had thought. Her effect on Regan could be seen so clearly. She was bringing the old Regan back something for which all his hopes had vanished long ago.

Rex felt something thick inside his throat and he couldn’t speak for a long time. He only hugged Regan tightly in his arms and said to himself inside his heart.

If Evelyn could give him such a beautiful gift, then he would just forget that she was from Zamorin.

From today on, as long as she didn’t hurt Regan, she was also his person to protect and look out for.
