Chapter 96: What Did Evelyn Do To Annoy Regan?
The next morning, when Evelyn came out of the tent she realized that the soldiers were already awake and were making breakfast. Yesterday, she had not stepped out of her tent until Elias had called her because she had been thinking that the prince didn’t like her presence around him.
However, today she finally dared to step out.
Seeing the soldiers working, she walked to one of them and asked
"Can I help you with anything?"
The soldier who was stirring the huge pot of soup on fire raised his head and looked at her hearing a feminine voice. Seeing her, he was surprised for a moment before he composed himself.
He almost forgot that now there was a girl living with them. Actually, it was not his fault, Evelyn just came the day before yesterday, and yesterday she was out the whole day.
His eyes however surely went to her wrist and he was surprised. All around the tents the soldiers had been talking about this girl and saying that she had a black band on her wrist and Elias himself confirmed that she was the prince’s slave. But he didn’t see any band on her wrist.
Though he thought this, he didn’t show anything on his face.
Remembering what she had asked, he shook his head and said politely
"No Lady. I don’t need any help."
"Ohh..."
Evelyn whispered to herself. She looked at everyone who was busy in their work. Though she wanted to help, she also didn’t have the heart to disturb any of them. A few of them were already raising their heads from time to time to look at her which made her slightly uncomfortable. Evelyn knew that they were just curious about her.
Perhaps the soldier standing near her could see her discomfort so he said
"Why doesn’t Lady go and find His Highness?"
Evelyn didn’t want to do anything else when she heard this. She thanked the soldier politely before she went back to her tent. There she picked the fur coat which had been given to her by the prince and then went to the prince’s tent.
Two soldiers were guarding the tent and when Evelyn approached them, they told her that the prince was in a meeting with other Generals and Commanders.
Hence, Evelyn decided to wait outside only.
She couldn’t help but look around during these few moments. There were many mountains around the border which made it slightly difficult to cross the borders.
It was also these mountains that created a wall of separation between Alfaros and Zamorin.
Only five minutes had passed, when Evelyn heard voices from the other side of the tent and looked toward the entrance.
She was standing only a few steps away so when Regan with the General and commanders stepped out of the tent, he saw her immediately.
The General had a long and wide paper in his hand which he was holding for the prince and saying something but Regan interrupted and said to Evelyn with a deep frown on his forehead.
"Why are you standing outside?"
Evelyn was hesitant for a few moments as she wondered what exactly she should say. Should she say that since she didn’t have anything to do so came to find the prince? That might not sound good.
It was then her eyes fell on the fur coat in her hands and she said immediately
"The coat...Your Highness. I came to return it."
Regan looked at the coat but the frown on his forehead didn’t vanish.
"I am not asking you why you came here. I am asking you why you are standing outside the tent."
Evelyn blinked at the question. Regan didn’t wait for her to answer his question. He looked at two soldiers who were guarding his tent and said coldly and firmly
"In the future, whenever she comes, she is allowed to come inside. Don’t stop her outside."
"Yes, Your Highness."
The soldiers looked at each other before they bowed their heads respectfully indicating that they understood.
The middle-aged General had already stopped speaking when the prince had suddenly spoken up and looked at the girl the prince was talking about He had not heard any fewer rumors about this girl and had heard from the soldiers that she was the prince’s slave.
He however didn’t like that the prince brought a girl to the border. It was simply a distraction for the soldiers.
In the past, he had respected the prince very much when he threw out all the beauties outside his tent sent by the Emperor. But this time, he was actually disappointed to see that he himself had brought a slave girl to the border.
Regan was unaware of the General’s thoughts. Even if he had known, he had actually never cared about what the General thinks.
At this moment, he was looking at Evelyn and said strictly
"Go inside the tent."
Evelyn immediately nodded her head when she saw that the prince’s face didn’t look good. She had just turned around and when she heard the prince’s strict voice again
"My tent Evelyn."
"Ohh..."
Evelyn whispered feeling slightly embarrassed because of being reprimanded like this. She was so stupid.
Scolding herself inside her head, she immediately walked towards the tent with her head bowed completely while Regan also moved away from the tent’s entrance to make the way for her.
"Your Highness we have now one month of rations left and ...."
The middle aged General had started speaking again but Regan suddenly raised his hand to stop him and said
"We will discuss the rest after breakfast."
"But Your Highness..."
The General wanted to continue but Regan looked at him coldly and said
"Later."
Hence, the General could only shut his mouth and leave with his subordinates.
As he had thought, that girl would just prove to be a distraction.
Left outside his tent, Regan turned around and stepped inside. He clicked his tongue when he saw Evelyn standing at a spot silently with his fur coat still in her hands.
Evelyn raised her head and looked at him in confusion. One thing she had realized was that the prince had a habit of clicking his tongue when he was slightly annoyed or impatience.
But what did she do now to annoy him?
