Chapter 92: Hearts Hurting For Each Other

Chapter 92: Hearts Hurting For Each Other

When Regan stood there to look down at their bloody faces, his red eyes were filled with nothing but ruthlessness.

The next moment, he looked at the girl standing at the end of the street and strode towards her in long strides.

When he stood in front of her, his figure completely hovered over her. He looked at the pouch in her hands and his red eyes flickered with anger as he started

"Have you gone crazy? It is dark. Why are you standing here for so long? Can’t you go and look for an inn to stay knowing that you have money?"

When Regan scolded someone, his voice and face both were cold and he looked scary. One who would be around would literally tremble to see him like this.

However, Evelyn looked unperturbed by her scolding.

Seeing the familiar mask and figure, her lips quivered and she felt like crying. Her eyes which had been red before went redder as they started to fill with tears and then she suddenly stepped forward and threw her arms around her waist.

"Don’t leave me here, Your Highness."

Her voice was choked and it came out muffled as she spoke against his chest so Regan didn’t understand what she said.

However, the anger in Regan’s eyes immediately vanished and his body went stiff. He heard a sniff and looked down at the furry head.

Was she crying?

Since he was wearing thick clothes, he couldn’t feel her tears through them but when he heard another sniff, he was sure that she was crying.

Regan’s heart clenched when he thought this and he unconsciously held her by her waist while his other patted her back gently.

"Why are you crying?"

He asked in a helpless tone. Was he too fierce just now?

Regan pushed Evelyn slightly away and frowned when he saw her all teary face.

"Don’t cry. You will get cold."

He said seriously.

The street was too cold and when she cried, she was inhaling more and more cold air with every sob. Seeing her already red nose, he doubted that she already got cold.

However, Evelyn didn’t seem to wish to follow his order. Her tears kept falling like an unbroken string.

This left Regan helpless.

"Were you scared just now?"

He asked softly as he took out his handkerchief from his sleeve and helped her wipe her tears.

Evelyn sniffed before she nodded her head twice.

Regan felt upset, not with Evelyn, but with himself.

When she finally stopped crying, he sighed in relief and said

"Come!"

Evelyn didn’t say anything but held the corner of his sleeve slightly. Her green eyes held fear and Regan could clearly see this. Startled by her action, he looked down at his sleeve and then at her face.

Under his eyes, Evelyn’s eyes went teary again as she requested softly

"Your Highness, don’t leave me here."

Seeing the pouch of coins she understood that the prince had done it intentionally.

She had been actually hurt. Why did he free her if he wanted to send her away? However, a part of her was determined that he must be around. She had a feeling that he would never leave her alone just like this. He would be around until he would be sure that she was safe.

Another part of Evelyn had found it ridiculous but she still stayed there in the street. Because of the cold winds, she could feel the pain in her shoulder but she still didn’t move. When the men approached her, she had been scared but she stood there firmly waiting for him to come.

Of course, she was scared but she didn’t wish to lose this chance.

On the other hand, Regan’s eyes widened for a moment as if he had been caught and he avoided her eyes.

Seeing this, Evelyn felt more insecure and held his sleeve more tightly as she asked in confusion but with sincerity

"Did I do something wrong, Your Highness, that Your Highness can’t tolerate me any longer?"

Evelyn paused for a moment and thought before she asked

"Is it because of what happened three weeks ago?"

Regan had been silent all this while but when she asked him this question, he nodded his head without looking at her.

Evelyn’s face went slightly pale when she heard this. She left the sleeve she had been holding before.

Regan didn’t show it but he felt a pain inside his heart as he saw her hand moving away.

He swallowed his emotions and was about to say something when he heard her say

"I am sorry."

Regan frowned in confusion hearing her words. Evelyn’s head was lowered as she continued

"I will be more careful in the future. I won’t create any trouble. Your Highness, can you please give me one more chance?"

Evelyn raised her head and looked at him with teary green eyes. Under the moonlight, they shone brightly because of the tears making Regan feel dazed for a moment.

The next moment, he blinked as he came out of his trance and finally registered what she just said.

"Why are you apologizing?"

He asked out loud in confusion.

It should be he who should apologize.

Evelyn was equally confused to hear his question.

"Your Highness blames me because the soldiers from Royal Palace came to catch me ...and in the process, they harmed the soldiers of the castle."

When Regan heard this, he didn’t know if he should laugh or cry. However, his heart ache when he saw her teary eyes that were full of self-blame.

"I don’t blame you, Evelyn."

Regan said firmly. When he saw that she was not convinced, he held her chin to make her look into his eyes and said firmly

"I never blamed you. Do you understand that?"

What was she even thinking?

It was because of him she was targeted. Rafael would have never touched her if she was not his slave. It was because Rafael wanted to provoke him that he sent those soldiers to take her to Royal Palace. Another reason behind it was that he wanted someone who could shoulder the attack and take the blame on himself.

Evelyn just proved to be the right person for him and it was also because of him that she was dragged into this mess.
