Chapter 75: Evelyn Was More Human Than Many Others

Derrick frowned at the question but still answered his son

"I ordered an investigation when I came to know that some invaders invaded your castle. But a few days back, Rafael came and told me that the slave you recently bought was from Zamorin. She could be a spy sent by the Crown prince of Zamorin. Regan, did you know it?"

"Yes"

Regan said. Though he looked calm from the outside, his insides were filled with rage.

When Regan heard Rafael’s name, he was not surprised at all. It was just ...he didn’t know how Rafael came to know about this.

However, before finding out about this, he still had important work to do.

Looking at Derrick, he said calmly.

"I want punishment for Rafael.

Derrick was still wondering why Regan would keep that slave in his castle even though he knew that she was from Zamorin when he heard these words.

He frowned and asked

"What are you saying, Regan? What did Rafael do? He was just looking out for you."

The words made Regan chuckle but his chuckle was not humorous at all. There was a cold smile on his lips as he said

"I never asked him to. How dare he step inside my castle, injure my soldiers and then even take away my person! Do people think that I am my people are so easy to step on?"

Derrick was shocked when he heard this.

He never knew that the royal soldiers harmed Regan’s soldiers. He was just concerned when he realized that the slave by his son’s side was from Zamorin.

So he immediately asked Rafael to bring her here. Rafael had eagerly stepped forward and even offered to find out everything from the slave and make her reveal the truth.

For the first time in his life, Derrick had felt perhaps he had been too hard on Rafael because of Diana.

Diana might not be a good woman but it was not essential that Rafael was also not a good person. Otherwise, why would he especially investigate this matter?

But Regan’s anger surprised him.

Derrick sighed as he said

"You even beat Rafael like that. I am not saying anything to you, Regan and you still want punishment for him."

Regan’s cold smile disappeared when he heard these words. He looked at his so-called father as he said

"He was all over her. She was unconscious ...while he was trying to force himself on her."

Regan’s red eyes went redder when he said these words and Derrick looked stunned when he saw him like this.

His face went blank as he looked at his son for a few moments. He never thought that Regan would react like this for that girl.

"She is from Zamorin, Regan. Don’t you doubt her?"

He couldn’t help but ask.

While Regan had stayed on the border, Derrick had always heard his praises. About how intelligent he was.

But now as he looked at Regan, he was suddenly worried for him.

Regan was however feeling impatient. He felt angry when people, again and again, doubted Evelyn. So when he heard Derrick’s words he enlightened the latter.

"She saved me when I was fighting with those invaders. She didn’t even care about her life before taking the sword that was supposed to be for me on herself. She was on the verge of death a few days ago...just because of me."

Regan had hoped that his words would make Derrick think reasonably and he would finally punish Rafael.

However, Derrick was still frowning deeply.

It was only when he spoke, Regan realized that Rafael had made up his own story to protect himself very well.

"The traders in Mazic were protesting against you, were they?"

When Regan didn’t answer, Derrick continued

"According to Rafael, those invaders can also be those traders. And what he says, it was because of that slave girl that those traders were standing against you. Regan, even if she is not the prince’s spy she is still indirectly the reason behind the attack. We can’t let go of her just like this."

Regan couldn’t believe that Rafael had made such a good story.

Indeed, Evelyn had suggested an idea because of which those traders protested against him but how was Evelyn at fault because of this!

It was his wish whether to accept her idea or not.

He didn’t even want to argue with Derrick because the latter seemed to be completely brainwashed by Rafael. So he only said

"Rafael tried to force himself on a girl who was unconscious. I want punishment for him. I want justice for Evelyn."

But Derrick didn’t seem to like how his son was standing for a slave. He frowned hard when he heard his son’s words.

A few moments later, he said calmly

"She is a slave, Regan. I can’t punish a prince just because of a slave."

Regan couldn’t help but feel stunned for a moment when he heard these merciless words.

"So what if she is a slave? Is she not a human?"

He couldn’t help but ask.

Seeing Derrick’s calm face in front of his question, Regan’s heart ached for Evelyn.

Because he realized that he couldn’t get justice for his Evelyn here.

In their eyes, his Evelyn was a slave...a slave whom they treated worse than animals.

How he wished that he could tell them that Evelyn was more human than many people who lived in this Royal Palace!

Disappointed, Regan turned around to leave.

Derrick didn’t want him to leave just like that. However, no matter how much he called, Regan never stopped.

On his way outside the chambers, Regan’s eyes stopped at the painting he was seeing for the second time in his life.

In the painting were his mother, his so-called father, Rex, and him as children. They looked like a happy family.

His eyes flashed with mockery as he looked at it.

Because the reality was way different from the painting.

When Regan returned to his palace, the maids wiped Evelyn’s body and changed her clothes. They had even fed her somehow even though she was unconscious.

Regan stroked her pale cheek once before he picked her up in his arms and walked to the balcony.

Lavo was already standing inside the balcony waiting for him.

He sat on Lavo with Evelyn in front of him. His hands held her close to his body and a thick robe covered Evelyn from the winds.

"Let’s go, Lavo."

Regan said coldly.

He didn’t wish to stay at a place where his Evelyn was not respected.

Lavo flew away leaving the Royal Palace behind.
