Chapter 57: Evelyn Wakes Up

Chapter 57: Evelyn Wakes Up

Evelyn woke up again but more than an hour later.

When she opened her eyes, she was again confused for a few moments as she looked around the chambers. As the familiarity dawned on her, the memories from the last night also came rushing back.

The pain in her shoulder didn’t help any less to remind her how she had run in front of the prince and had been stabbed in the shoulder.

But she was still saved.

A bitterness couldn’t help but spread inside her heart.

Why was God so unwilling to welcome her into his world? She had actually hoped that she would not wake up again.

But she still woke up.

Her attention was soon caught by her other worries.

What was she doing in the prince’s chambers? Where was the prince? Was he alright?

As if to find her answer, she looked around the chambers.

Her eyes suddenly fell on the chair that was just beside the bed and her eyes flickered with surprise when she saw the person sitting on it.

It was none other than her master.

But he seemed to be in a deep sleep.

Regan didn’t have even a wink of sleep since last night. He didn’t feel sleepy before because his heart was stuck on Evelyn but when he came to know that she was alright, he couldn’t fight against the exhaustion and fell asleep on the chair itself.

Evelyn looked at the deeply asleep prince and suddenly couldn’t move her eyes away.

His mask still covered half of his face but a few strands of hair falling on his forehead made him look so beautiful.

He looked so peaceful like a child.

She suddenly forgot the bitterness inside his heart as she looked at him but suddenly frowned.

Did the prince not look very exhausted?

He must be. After fighting so many men, he must be very exhausted. As Evelyn remember how so many of them were pouncing on the prince together, the anger she had felt at that time returned.

Her heart ached when she looked at Regan again.

Evelyn looked at Regan for a few moments before she looked away when she realized that she was looking longer than she should.

Embarrassed, she stared at the ceiling. Lost in her thoughts, she suddenly remembered the voices she had heard when she had been unconscious.

She seemed to have heard Hannah, Ami, and Miri’s voices. But that another voice...it was so gentle yet filled with fear.

The owner sounded so worried about her.

When Evelyn remembered the words, she concluded that she must be hallucinating. So she calmly put aside the matter.

Now, she started to feel thirsty.

So she looked towards the bedside. Relieved to see a jug, she tried to sit up on the bed. However, she had made only a slight movement when intolerable pain spread through her shoulder making her cry out suddenly.

"Ah..."

Regan was immediately woken up by the sudden cry and when he saw Evelyn lying on the bed with closed eyes and taking deep breaths while biting her lips, he was filled with worry.

"Evelyn..."

He called out her name as he sat on the edge of the bed.

Evelyn opened her eyes but they were filled with tears.

Regan felt his heart aching when he saw her like this.

"Are you alright?"

He asked but without waiting for an answer, he shouted for Elias.

"Your Highness..."

Elias looked at his master with concern when he came running inside the chambers.

"Bring Dan."

Elias looked towards the bed and immediately saw that Evelyn was awake. He was also relieved to see this and went to bring Dan hurriedly.

"Yes, Your Highness"

On the other hand, Evelyn felt flustered when she saw that she had made the prince worry. She exhaled sharply as she bore the pain and whispered

"Your Highness, I am alright."

However, Regan didn’t believe her at all.

"Just lie down. Dan will be here soon."

Evelyn didn’t know who Dan was but at this moment, she didn’t even want to care.

Though she said that she was alright, she was actually in pain. Perhaps she should not have moved.

Dan came soon with his bag. Regan stepped aside to make a place for him and Dan sat down on the chair and asked what happened.

When Regan saw that Evelyn was looking at Dan in confusion, he said gently

"Evelyn, he is a physician. Tell him if you are feeling pain."

Evelyn looked at Dan when she heard Regan’s words but she didn’t know if she was supposed to tell him that she was feeling pain in her shoulder.

She thought that the pain will pass on its own. There was no need to spend money on the physician.

If Regan had heard her thoughts, then he would have surely laughed out loud in anger. However, he couldn’t hear so he could only look at her in confusion and worry wondering why she was not speaking.

On the other hand, Dan smiled softly and said

"Lady, May I have a look at your wound?"

Evelyn was still hesitant but Regan called out her name.

"Evelyn, Let him see it."

Hence, Evelyn could only nod her head.

Dan smiled and started to remove the cloth that was tied to the wound. Elias left considerately but Regan stayed.

Knowing that her shoulder was naked in front of a man, Evelyn felt uncomfortable but when she saw Dan’s eyes that didn’t carry anything she should hate, she felt relieved.

As for the prince, Evelyn didn’t even dare to look at him.

"The wound had started to bleed again. Perhaps the Lady tried to move."

Regan’s frown went deep when he heard Dan and he looked at Evelyn. When he saw that she was not looking at him, he asked strictly

"Evelyn, did you move from the bed?"

Evelyn still didn’t look at Regan. She didn’t know why but she felt like a child hearing his strict voice. She could only nod her head meekly and accept her mistake

"I was thirsty...so I tried to drink some water."

And Regan’s face didn’t look good at all when he heard her.
