The Masked prince
Chapter 54: He Loves Her

Chapter 54: He Loves Her

Evelyn was unconscious but she could hear a few things from her surroundings. She could feel the coldness of the medicinal paste on her wound.

It hurt her.

But she neither could cry out in pain nor could she shed tears.

Her body felt too weak to do anything.

She just wanted to sleep so that she would not feel this pain. However, before drifting into sleep she did hear a gentle yet firm voice.

"...My Evelyn is the strongest girl I have ever seen..."

The words were slightly unclear but this sentence which she heard clearly made her feel slightly baffled and confused.

In her dizziness, she couldn’t help but wonder who this person was.

But whoever he was, he was very wrong.

She was not strong at all.

If she was strong then she would have not let all those things happen. She was weak so she could only choose to run away.

With these thoughts, Evelyn finally drifted into a deep sleep because of exhaustion.

When she heard a familiar voice again, she didn’t know how much time had passed.

Her attention was caught by the voice.

"Evelyn...wake up."

The voice was slightly choked and Evelyn wondered if it belonged to Hannah.

"Yes, Evelyn. You know Hannah confessed her feelings to Henry. Henry accepted her confession. You should wake up otherwise you would miss Hannah’s marriage."

And this seemed to be Ami.

Evelyn thought.

She was surprised when she registered whatever they said.

For a moment, she actually wanted to open her eyes but she couldn’t do so. Even lifting a finger seemed to be huge work.

She just wanted to sleep again.

Before drifting into another deep slumber again, she did hear Hannah’s choked voice again saying that she wouldn’t marry Henry until she would woke up.

.

.

.

"She is not waking up."

Hannah whispered anxiously as tears slid down her eyes.

Ami and Miri sighed when they saw her like this.

The news that a few men invaded the castle had spread inside the Mazic like a fire. Everyone had been worried about the two prince’s safety.

Ami, Miri, and Hannah had been relieved to know that the two princes were fine. However, they had not expected that it was their friend Evelyn who got injured while saving the prince.

It was Henry who came this morning and told them all this...no actually he told Hannah about this.

Henry also told them that after he had received the letter he had gone to find Evelyn but she told him that she never prepared that letter for him.

It was one of her friends.

After that, he investigated and found out that Evelyn had four friends. Ami was already married and Miri was already engaged to someone so the only person who could have been behind the letter was Hannah.

That’s why he asked Hannah if she had been the one who prepared that letter for him.

Hannah could have only said ’yes’ and confess her feelings to him. And the girl had been surprised when Henry said that he also liked her.

Hannah had felt like she was flying above clouds.

She was so happy. She immediately wanted to find Evelyn and thank her. After all, Evelyn was indirectly responsible for her happiness.

However, when Henry came to know that she wanted to see Evelyn, he told them about how Evelyn got injured last night.

Hence, Hannah, Miri, and Ami immediately came running to the prince’s chambers to ask about Evelyn.

More than Miri and Ami, Hannah had shared a deep bond with Evelyn. Though it had only been a few days, Hannah felt as if she could trust Evelyn blindly. She even dared to knock on her doors at night if she was feeling upset.

On the other hand, standing in the corner, Regan looked at Evelyn who was still unconscious.

His lips were pressed in a thin line. His red eyes were blank as he looked at her pale face.

He had not slept the whole night but there was not even a trace of sleepiness in his eyes.

He had thought that if her friends talked to her then she might wake up soon. But looking at her still-closed eyes, Regan suddenly felt less confident.

His fists were clenched tightly.

It was he again.

Before his mother died while saving him and now this girl...whom he was supposed to protect, she was also in this state because of him.

It was his fault.

He dragged her into his world which had nothing but ruthlessness, greed, and inhumanity.

Hannah, Miri, and Ami had to leave after some time. After all, the chores inside the castle couldn’t be stopped and Martha wouldn’t like it if they delayed things.

With heavy hearts, they left the chambers.

Regan again walked to the bed and sat by her side.

His big hand easily covered hers as he looked at her and asked in a slightly hoarse voice

"Is it because of me, Evelyn? If I didn’t keep you by my side then you would not have been like this. Should I have let you go?"

His heart ached when he didn’t get any response.

When he looked at the sun which was about to set, Regan’s heart sank down. The doctor had said that if Evelyn didn’t wake up within a day then there were very less chances of her waking up ever.

He had been very sure last night that she would wake up but now his confidence was thinning down slowly and slowly.

Before this, he had never felt afraid of anything.

He didn’t feel afraid when a huge creature like Lavo was sent to kill him by Zamorin. He tamed it fearlessly and even made it his pet for a lifetime.

He didn’t feel afraid to fight on the battlefield even when he was only twelve. He didn’t fear any pain.

However, as he looked at the girl lying on the bed.

Regan felt afraid that she will leave him forever.

The feelings that he had been refusing to accept were surfacing again and this time, he could no longer deny them.

He loved this girl.

He loved her like he had never loved anyone else in his life before.
