Chapter 280: Regan Wants To Teach A Lesson To Evelyn

Evelyn laid down on the bed during the night to sleep but sleep never visited her.

She didn’t have anything because she didn’t have any appetite.

She was wondering if Regan would agree to divorce her. A part of her was wrenched in pain when she thought that he would. After all, he looked so angry at her while other part of her wanted him not to agree.

She herself was in conflict.

When the sun rose in the sky, she didn’t exit the guest room.

Isla brought her breakfast inside the room only.

The whole day she spent inside her room wondering where she would go after leaving the Palace. Regan never visited her for the whole day so she started to feel that he would give her a divorce soon.

He had confessed his feelings for her but she just made him feel that she married him just to get rid of Arthur.

She used him and his feelings.

Evelyn felt dirty but if she didn’t do it then she would have been selfish.

It was after sun had set and the sky was dark when someone knocked on the door of her room.

She wondered if it was Regan.

Biting her lips as she contemplated whether to open the door or not, in the end, Evelyn opened the door.

She was surprised when she saw Rex standing outside the room.

"Your Highness..."

Rex looked at Evelyn who looked guilty to see him and sighed as he asked

"Can we have a talk?"

Evelyn hesitated because she had a guess about what Rex came here.

As she was thinking, Rex spoke up suddenly

"Evelyn, you know when I saw Lavo saving you in the arena that day, I knew that you mean something for my brother. That’s why even though I knew that Regan wouldn’t like it, I took you to his Palace. If you are going to leave, I deserve an explanation at least ...otherwise I will regret doing that for the rest of my life."

Evelyn felt as if Rex’s words hit a part of her vulnerable heart at that moment.

She nodded her head lightly and followed him out of the room when he proposed to talk in the garden.

They sat on a bench inside the garden and Rex was the first to ask Evelyn

"Did someone say something to you?"

Rex’s voice was soft when he asked this question.

Evelyn shook her head. She was silent for a few moments before she asked

"Is there a rule where slaves are not supposed to hold a higher rank than concubines? That they can’t become queen?"

Rex’s expression went somber and he sighed before he nodded his head.

"Yes, there is."

"If Your Highness knew this then why did Your Highness let me marry His Highness...if I had not married His Highness, then none of this have happened."

She never thought about Regan that way before their marriage. She respected him a lot but she could never dream about standing by his side as his wife.

It started after their marriage when she started to hope for more than she should have and it only increased after Regan’s confession.

Rex sighed yet again when he heard Evelyn’s words. He took a deep breath before he asked Evelyn in return

"Do you think that Regan would have stopped because of such a thing?"

Evelyn frowned in confusion while Rex chuckled seeing her confusion.

"Evelyn, you don’t know Regan. If he love someone then he would do it unconditionally. You might have been a slave but to him, you are the queen who rules his heart. You might not believe me but my brother is crazy for you. If you left...then I am scared that he will lose himself...and even I might not be able to hold him together."

"So I request you to go and talk to him once. Tell him your fears. The problem is that you keep hiding them and in that process, you not only hurt yourself but Regan as well. Try trusting him once. You will realize that the problems that are worrying have already been solved by him long ago."

Rex smiled softly before he stood up while Evelyn looked shocked.

Did Rex mean what she understand from his words?

However, Rex didn’t continue about that matter anymore. He patted her head before leaving.

"I consider you as my sister since the moment I walked you down the altar. Regan is my brother. Both of you are precious to me and I feel equally upset seeing both of you upset with each other."

Evelyn felt a lump forming inside her throat as she nodded her head.

Rex sighed in relief as he left from there.

That night, Evelyn finally gathered her courage and walked to the room where she was staying with Regan before.

She knocked on the door but when the door opened on its own, she pushed it inside and entered the room.

Evelyn saw Regan inside the room sitting on the table and reading a book. She was sure that he sensed her presence but didn’t even raise his head to look at her.

Remembering how hurt he looked yesterday, she actually lost her courage to go to him and talk. What If she angered him again?

She didn’t wish to do so. Hence, Evelyn turned around to leave. However, she had not even taken a step when she heard Regan’s cold voice.

"You are very good with showing your back every time whenever a problem arises...and here I always thought that you are strong."

Evelyn felt her eyes filling up with tears at the taunt.

The next moment, she turned around and walked towards the table and sat on the chair that was placed beside Regan.

Her head was lowered and she didn’t say anything and Regan also kept his eyes on the book in his hands.

It was a few moments later when Regan suddenly heard soft sniffles from his side that he sighed. He closed his book and pulled the crying woman in his arms.

He patted her back gently without saying anything until she stopped crying.

He couldn’t see her crying but that didn’t mean that he would forgive her so easily.

She needed to learn not to give up on him.
