Chapter 265: Evelyn Doesn’t Want To Leave

"Evelyn, it is a small wound."

Regan explained helplessly as he looked at the girl whose eyes were red and filled with panic. At this moment, Evelyn was rubbing the ointment on Regan’s wound that was made from Lavo’s wings.

How could he say that the wound was small! It was such a deep wound and ran across his whole chest.

"Evelyn, you are really here?"

Evelyn and Regan raised their heads and looked towards Rex who had just stepped inside the tent.

Rex had been surprised when a soldier told him that Evelyn was there.

"Your Highness..."

Evelyn greeted and was relieved to see that at least Rex was alright though she wondered how Regan get injured.

As if sensing her question, Rex smiled tightly and explained.

"It is because of me. The attack was sudden. They caught us off guard. Regan was trying to defend me and got this wound in the process."

Rex’s eyes were filled with guilt

But he had not expected that Raphael had planted his soldiers in this village.

They were moving towards Royal City when the attack happened.

Regan frowned when he saw the guilt in Rex’s eyes and said coldly.

"It’s not like you have never saved me."

Rex smiled bitterly. He had saved Regan but it was when Regan was still learning on the battlefield...when he was just sent there. As an elder brother, Rex already had learned all this so he knew more than Regan and would always look out for his brother.

However, after Regan learned, he never needed Rex for his protection.

Although he knew that Regan was trying to comfort him, Rex still felt bitter. Regan had suffered enough by saving his life. Every time he did such a thing, Rex was reminded of the time when his brother stepped inside the fire to save him and got this scar on his face due to which he had to hide his face.

Evelyn could also sense the guilt inside Rex. She smiled as she looked at her prince’s frown. She never said it but she liked the brotherhood between Rex and Regan.

It made her feel assured that they were always there to look out for each other and her prince was never alone.

"Your Highness, it is normal to get wounds on the battlefield."

Contrary to how panicked she looked before, she said these words quite calmly now. Regan looked at her with amusement-filled eyes. At the same time, he felt proud to see that she knew where she could show her panic and where she could not.

Evelyn started to apply the ointment again as she looked around once again and asked

"Where is Elias?"

It was strange not to see Elias around Regan. In fact, she realized that this strange thing has been happening for the past few days.

No one answered her question.

Regan’s face was cold while Rex looked helpless. Evelyn immediately sensed that something was not alright but she didn’t ask anything anymore.

"Now, Your Highness should rest."

Regan shook his head when he heard this but before he could say anything, Rex joined Evelyn and said firmly.

"Evelyn is right. The wound is deep. Even if we are using the ointment from Lavo’s wings, it will take time to heal. So you should rest. Don’t worry about anything else. I will manage."

Evelyn looked at Rex with a grateful expression on her face while Regan sighed in defeat and lay down on the bed.

Rex left the tent relieved to see that someone was there to take care of Regan so he could pay attention to the camp and Royal City’s activities.

Regan held Evelyn’s hand as he closed his eyes to rest for some time. Sleep came to him easily. After all, he had not really rested much in the past few days.

It was not normal for an ordinary man to stay conscious with such minimal sleep but Regan did because his body had gotten used to it.

But it also had its limit.

Seeing how innocent he looked while sleeping, Evelyn couldn’t help but smile. However, when her eyes fell on his mask, she couldn’t help but frown.

She had only seen him once without the mask but she remembered that moment very clearly. He actually looked beautiful without it. She really wished that he would stop using it but she didn’t know if she had the right to say it.

In the end, no matter how much she wanted to stay beside him, Evelyn took her hand out of Regan’s hold carefully and stepped outside the tent.

He must be asleep deeply as he didn’t even move when she made him leave her hand.

She found Rex talking to a soldier. She approached him and stood silently by the side until he was finished talking.

The soldier greeted her before leaving and Rex realized her presence.

He was surprised to see her there but soon realized the whys of it when Evelyn asked him

"Your Highness, is His Highness angry with Elias?"

Rex sighed before he told Evelyn how Elias couldn’t find out about Arthur’s disappearance at the border and hence Regan was upset with Elias.

Evelyn had not expected that Regan had been angry at Elias for such a long time.

"But it is not Elias’s fault. He didn’t know that Arthur could do that kind of spell."

Rex nodded his head. He had tried to explain the same to Regan but Regan was not ready to hear anything.

He looked towards Elias who was giving instructions to the soldier.

"Elias had not spoken much since Regan had stopped speaking to him. I miss his foolish remarks."

Evelyn’s lips parted as she looked at Rex. She didn’t know if he was really expressing his sympathy for Elias or if he was calling Elias stupid.

Evelyn shook her head as she tried to focus on the problem.

She would talk to Regan. Elias didn’t deserve cold treatment for such a mistake. But would the prince listen to her?

She came out of her thoughts when she heard Rex asking

"So when will you leave?"

The question made Evelyn feel lost instantly.

Could she say that she wanted to stay? Without Regan, the castle felt very empty even if she had Hannah, Miri, and Amy by her side.

And he even had a wound now. If she went away, she would continue to think about how he was doing.

But she remembered how the prince had not let her accompany him to the border before. So she smiled tightly and answered Rex.

"I will leave soon."
