Chapter 255: Arthur’s Secrets
Chapter 255: Arthur’s Secrets
There was a deep frown on Rex’s forehead as he saw Regan crossing the border and coming towards him. Regan’s face was blank and he looked somewhat shocked.
He wanted to ask Regan what happened but he only saw Regan walking past him and then climbing down his horse and going inside his tent.
At that moment, Rex knew that something very serious happened. He wanted to know what happened but he had responsibility on his shoulders.
Rex had to command the army till Arthur and his soldiers stopped after becoming exhausted for the day.
As soon as they stopped and he got some time, he went inside Regan’s tent only to find his brother seated on the couch with blank eyes.
There was that same expression on his face.
It worried Rex more and he approached Regan. Putting his hand on Regan’s shoulder, he asked softly
"Regan, what happened?"
Regan raised his head and looked at Rex. He inhaled sharply as he wiped his mask clad face before he took a deep breath and asked
"How can it be possible, Rex? I ...My sword went inside his body, the blood came out but he didn’t die. There was blood but he didn’t die."
In fact, Arthur had this mysterious smirk on his lips as Regan looked shocked.
How could a person with a sword in his stomach smirk like that! How could he still stay seated at the horse and not even whince with pain!
Regan had seen such a scene for the first time in his life.
He remembered that Arthur looked in pain when he beat in him forest. He was having difficulty in breathing when he choked him...or was that all a pretence?
"I am not understanding anything."
Regan whispered as he raked his hand through his hair.
Even Rex was shocked after hearing everything.
He sat beside Regan with a deep frown on his face ...the same which Regan carried.
A moment later, he sighed and patted Regan’s shoulder.
"Don’t worry. We will find out something. There must be a way."
Regan nodded his head but he was actually shaken from inside.
He had promised Evelyn but now he was not very certain whether he will be able to complete his promise or not.
That whole night, only one question continued to revolve in his mind.
What kind of creature Arthur was?
.
.
.
A strange thing happened the next morning.
Arthur sent one of his men with a proposal.
" I know that you don’t have many soldiers on your side...at least not more than me. So I will be merciful. Send Prince William and I will leave Alfaros never to return again."
Arthur wrote in the letter.
Regan stared at the letter coldly and threw it away. Everyone was silent.
The wise thing was to agree with proposal. After all, they knew that their soldiers were less than the other side and exhausted more than them.
However, one question lingered in Regan’s mind.
Was Arthur giving up on Evelyn? He didn’t look like a man who would...unless the circumstances were grave.
What could make Arthur give up Evelyn?
And then there was another question.
"How does he know that we have less soldiers?"
Rex asked out aloud what was going on inside Regan’s mind.
The conclusion which had surfaced months ago surfaced again.
"We have a spy who is helping them."
Rex nodded his head at Regan’s words. They had a spy since a very long time but they never got the time to deal with it.
Many things happened at once and this spy stayed protected.
But now they needed to take an action otherwise it could lead to a disaster.
They needed to lay a trap and find this spy.
And they also needed to find out the reason behind Arthur’s proposal.
Was William so important to Arthur that he could give up on Evelyn?
Regan had an intuition that something was fishy.
Perhaps in the end, Arthur finally has a weakness.
And he was going to find it out. He had promised his Evelyn. He can’t see her afraid of Arthur all the time.
He would kill Arthur regardless of what he would have to do for that
.
.
.
To find the spy, a trap was laid by Regan and Rex.
The trap was laid in the castle only because no such discussion regarding the strength or manpower took place on the border. Rex left important documents inside his study room that night and spread a rumor that they have revised their strategy and strength.
Sure enough, late night a figure was seen entering his study room.
When Regan and Rex uncovered the figure, they found that it was a maid.
"Orla!"
Henry recognized the maid instantly. Hannah complained a lot about this maid to him.
The maid named Orla was very lazy and always tried to jab at Hannah and her friends when they talked about Evelyn.
"She is from Royal City, Your Highness."
Henry told Rex and Regan after investigating Orla.
"I was working for prince Raphael...Your Highness I didn’t have any choice. I needed money."
Orla begged and cried as she pleaded for mercy but in the end, she was thrown inside the dungeons.
If she needed money then she could have always asked Martha. Martha passed such requests to one of the prince and a genuine person was never refused help.
Hence, Orla’s excused were invalid.
The spy was found already.
But one thing still stays a secret and that was ...Arthur’s weakness.

The next two days passed with Evelyn not seeing Regan at all. She didn’t know what was going on outside.
However, on the evening of second day, Derrick came to see her.
Elias was hesitant to let him inside and made an excuse that Evelyn was resting. Elias knew that Derrick didn’t like Evelyn so he was afraid that Derrick would say something not so nice to Evelyn.
Elias had already disappointed his master twice till now and he didn’t wish to do so again.
Derrick frowned as he said
"I would just have a look to ensure that she is alright."
He had been trying to see Evelyn since he had heard that she is back. But Derrick only saw her once and that was on the dining table. He couldn’t talk to her.
He had so many things to say and somehow Derrick couldn’t rest these days without saying them.
Elias was firm on his stand ...something which made Derrick frustrated as well as angry.
First his son kept him away from Evelyn and now his man was doing the same. What did they consider him?
Did he look as if he could harm his own daughter-in-law?
"Is it Regan who instructed you to do this?"
Derrick asked quite loudly this time making Elias bow his head respectfully but he didn’t answer Derrick’s question.
What could he even say?
That he didn’t trust Derrick with Evelyn’s safety.
Even if his master didn’t order him to stop Derrick from meeting Evelyn, Elias knew that his master didn’t like his father. Then he would also want his wife to stay away from Derrick, wouldn’t he?
However, his silence infuriated Derrick more.
