Chapter 218: Going To Royal Palace

The letters stopped coming from the border. After that letter which said that the war has started, no other letter came.

Lavo must be needed on the battlefield every day. Even without Isla saying it, Evelyn understood it very well.

Evelyn didn’t know if any letter was sent to Royal Palace or not.

She didn’t try to find out as well. She just continued her training and learned to read and write. The soldiers left by the prince were also being trained every day.

In her free time, Evelyn sat with the accounts of the Palace. Slowly and slowly, she started to shoulder all the responsibilities she was supposed to take on as the mistress of the Palace.

"I think we should buy some grains and send it the border from the Palace’s treasury. Clothes as well..."

Evelyn told Isla about her thoughts. She was still new so she always took advice from Isla whenever she needed to. Initially, she used to wonder if Isla would find her incompetent and so inexperienced. However, Evelyn soon realized that Isla was not like that.

Isla always helped her sincerely and never looked down on her. She was also very good at giving advising and pointing out the problems in Evelyn’s plans.

This time also, Isla looked thoughtful as she nodded her head and said

"My Lady is very kind. I think we can send these things with the Royal carriage. It goes to the border every few weeks."

Evelyn smiled and nodded her head.

Isla also provided her with the easiest solution.

"My Lady should have lunch now."

And she was also strict regarding Evelyn’s health.

Evelyn actually felt as if she had found an elder sister who would scold her when she didn’t take care of herself, praise her when she did well and console her when she was upset.

Isla had her own ways around Evelyn but Evelyn really liked Isla.

A week later, they sent the grain and clothes to the border.

The very next day, Evelyn received a letter from the Royal Palace. As she read the letter, Evelyn frowned deeply.

"His Majesty wishes to see My Lady."

Isla who read the letter in Evelyn’s hands as she was standing beside Evelyn also frowned. Ezra and Elliot who were standing nearby looked somber.

"His Highness had asked us to keep My Lady away from Royal Palace."

Regan knew that his father didn’t like Evelyn much and there was Raphael inside Royal Palace so he wanted Evelyn to stay away from Royal Palace in his absence.

Even Evelyn had been told the same by Regan.

However, it was a Royal order. Could she refuse to follow?

"We can make an excuse that My Lady is unwell and can’t step inside Royal Palace."

Isla offered and Ezra immediately nodded his head.

"Indeed. We should do that."

Evelyn looked deep in thought before she nodded her head.

"Then let’s do it."

She wanted to follow what the prince had said to her. Evelyn knew that there must be some reason behind the prince’s order. Hence, a letter was sent to Royal Palace saying the same.

Yet, the next day another letter came from the Royal Palace which strictly asked Evelyn to step inside Royal Palace.

Even two Royal soldiers came from the Palace with the letter and said

"We have been asked by His Majesty to bring Princess Consort to Royal Palace."

Isla who was facing the soldiers looked full of rage when she heard the soldiers’ words. It was an indirect threat that if Evelyn still refused then she would be dragged to the Royal Palace forcefully.

She wanted to kill the soldiers then and there but Isla knew that she had to think calmly. If she did what she wanted then it would only put a stain on her lady’s name.

"Please wait here. I will go and talk to My Lady."

The soldiers looked at Isla with narrowed eyes but nodded their heads. In the end, Isla went inside the Palace and talked to Ezra and Elliot.

"We should just ask them to leave. As long as we persist, they can’t really drag My Lady to the Royal Palace. It would be humiliating for the Royal family so I don’t think that King would really do that. Also, we have fifty soldiers well-trained to fight with them."

Ezra said immediately. However, Elliot shook his head.

"We represent His Highness. If we go against the King of Alfaros then it would mean that His Highness is going against him."

"Elliot is right."

Isla said grimly and continued.

"We don’t really have a way out."

"Then I will go there."

"My Lady..."

The three knights turned to look at Evelyn who stepped outside her room. It seemed that she heard everything.

Evelyn looked at Isla and said firmly

"Make arrangements. I will go and see what His Majesty wishes to say."

Isla sighed but didn’t say anything. She knew that they could only do this but said a moment later

"I will accompany My Lady."

Evelyn smiled softly when she heard Isla.

"They won’t allow you inside with me, Isla."

"Then I will stand outside and wait for My Lady."

Isla said firmly and Ezra nodded his head.

"Isla is right, My Lady."

So Evelyn nodded her head and went back to her room to get ready.

As soon as she left, Elliot had a grim expression on his face as he said

"I don’t have a good feeling about it. His Highness that His Majesty doesn’t like Lady and he wishes to replace her with some other woman from a noble family."

"Even I don’t have any good feeling about this but we don’t really have any other way, Elliot."

Ezra said to Elliot.

Isla didn’t say anything and went to make arrangements to leave for Royal Palace.

Almost half an hour later, Evelyn sat inside the carriage which left for Royal Palace.

The carriage was being followed by the Royal soldiers to ensure that she would reach Royal Palace.
