Chapter 193: The Sincerity

Chapter 193: The Sincerity

The atmosphere was suddenly tense because the concubine who asked the question seemed to realize that Evelyn didn’t like her question.

As if Evelyn’s cold stare was not enough, Evelyn said in an equally cold yet polite and calm voice.

"I didn’t need to seduce him at all. Also... he was more beautiful than any man I have ever seen. And you know...you can never understand what I just said."

Because it was his heart that was the most beautiful for Evelyn.

He cared for her like no one ever did. To her, Regan was most beautiful person in her life.

The concubine was stiff for a while but the anger could be clearly seen in her eyes. She, of course, didn’t like the way Evelyn talked to her...especially when she was aware that Evelyn was nothing but a slave in the past.

Even she had a good background compared to Evelyn. However, she was also well aware of the fact that regardless of what Evelyn was in her past, she was higher than her in the present.

A concubine would have to bow down in front of a Princess Consort.

She smiled forcefully and tried to lighten the atmosphere.

"I was just having fun...Princess Consort seem to take things slight seriously..."

She chuckled as she said these words and other concubines tried to help her. However, Evelyn looked at them coldly and said

"I will need to leave. His Highness is waiting for me."

Peri who had been standing silently up till now looked at Evelyn with surprise filled eyes. She didn’t want Evelyn to leave so early. But before she could even try to stop her, Evelyn turned around and walked back to Regan.

Peri looked at Evelyn’s back with a deep frown on her forehead but hissed sharply suddenly. Looking down at her arm she found her the concubine was digging her nails deep in her arm.

It was the same concubine who had dared to insult Evelyn. Needless to say, she was angry.

And since she couldn’t take her anger out on Evelyn, she was taking it out on Peri.

"Your friend is very daring, isn’t she slave?"

Peri’s eyes were filled with tears because of the pain she was feeling but she could only lower her head knowing that there was no one to protect her. Her eyes still went to Evelyn for a moment wondering if Evelyn would help her. However, she saw that Evelyn had her back towards her.

Seeing the prince arm around Evelyn’s waist in such a protective manner, Peri wouldn’t lie but she had the urge to be in Evelyn’s place.

Just because of the prince’s backing, no one dared to insult or even touch Evelyn again.

Peri wondered why she was not receiving the same from Raphael. Instead Raphael was cruel...crueler than any of her masters in the past.

She remembered how badly he had beaten her after he had recovered from the bruises given by Regan when he had captured Evelyn in his dungeons.

Apparently, it was she who was blamed for everything.

But Peri never understood what her fault was. Was not she just trying to help the prince?

And now today, even Evelyn left her alone without even looking back. Did she also look down on her now that she was a princess consort?

The thought made Peri furious. But she came out of her thoughts when the concubines intensified the pain by digging her nails more deeper.

"I want a revenge, slave and you will help me in getting it. Do you understand?"

Peri was unable to bear the pain so she nodded her head immediately.

At that time, she didn’t realize how she was helping someone in harming Evelyn for the second time. Last time, it was unintentional but this time it was intentional.

Yet, she kept expecting for Evelyn to help her when she was in trouble.

On the other hand, Regan was surprised to see that Evelyn returned so early.

He looked at her eyes and frowned when he saw how emotionless they were. His hand naturally went to hold her waist and Evelyn didn’t even feel repulsive of his touch and calmly stepped closer to him.

"Did something happen?"

Regan asked in a whisper while Rex kept talking to the ministers who were standing there.

Evelyn nodded her head but there was still an adorable frown on her forehead which made Regan sigh and he asked her again.

"Why did you come back so early?"

"I didn’t like them."

Evelyn said in a low voice. Her voice was slightly lost as she whispered

"Peri seemed to have changed a lot."

Or Perhaps she was always like this. Evelyn didn’t know but today the way Peri looked at her, it didn’t give her a good vibe.

Peri’s stare was not much different from the other concubines. Evelyn had noticed it.

It made her feel as if Peri envied her.

And Peri didn’t even say anything when those concubines insulted her. Even if Peri was afraid of them, Evelyn didn’t see even a trace of anger on Peri’s face. She looked completely alright seeing how she was getting insulted by those concubines.

This Peri was completely different from how Evelyn had looked at her when she had given her something to eat when both of them were starving.

Regan was looking at Evelyn silently. He had a small smile on his lips because he realized that Evelyn knew about Peri’s selfish nature.

Putting Rex’s words aside, he dared to say

"You already saved her life once, Evelyn. Whatever you owed to her is paid. Don’t think about it."

Evelyn was slightly lost when she heard these words.

Regan suddenly held Evelyn’s hand and squeezed it lightly.

"I am with you. Rex and Elias are also there for you. Don’t worry."

The words brought a sincere smile on Evelyn’s lips.

Was the prince comforting her?

If he was then he was successful because she felt a lot better than before.

She might have less people in her life who really cared about her but the thing that mattered was they were sincere to her in every way.
