The Masked prince -
Chapter 172: The Mockery
Chapter 172: The Mockery
The Lady teacher was here by the time Evelyn was finished with her breakfast. As soon as the maid told her, Evelyn left the dining room and went to the living room with the maid.
However, when she entered the living room, she saw two women there instead of one.
For a moment, Evelyn didn’t know what was she supposed to do but then she composed herself and smiled politely while bowing her head as she said
"Welcome to the Palace, Lady Irwin."
Evelyn greeted the middle-aged woman. The strict expression she wore on her face made Evelyn think that she must be the teacher who was there for her.
Rex had told Evelyn that she could call the teacher but she was not aware of who the girl standing beside the middle-aged woman was.
But the girl was very beautiful and she didn’t look as if she was from an ordinary family. Not to look rude, Evelyn smiled politely and said to her
"Greetings!"
The girl, however, glanced at her for a few moments before she nodded her head. Evelyn didn’t know why but she felt as if she was not liked by her.
But she didn’t have time to focus her attention on this as Lady Irwin’s strict voice fell in her ears.
"As a princess consort, you are not supposed to bow before anyone unless it is someone senior from the Royal family in front of you. A bow that low makes you look like a servant instead of a princess consort."
Evelyn stiffened and saw displeasure written all over Lady Irwin’s face.
She suddenly felt more and more nervous regarding this training. But she somehow composed herself and this time nodded her head instead of bowing and said politely
"I understand, Lady Irwin."
Lady Irwin nodded her head and Evelyn sighed in relief for a moment. After that, she heard Lady Irwin say
"Let’s start then. From what it looks like, you have a lot to learn."
And that was true.
Hence, Evelyn’s training started within a few moments.
When Rex and Regan returned to the dining room, they were also informed that Lady Irwin had arrived already.
Regan immediately wanted to go and check on Evelyn. He was not aware of exactly what kind of lady this teacher was.
He had thought that if she was temperamental and made things difficult for Evelyn then he would send her back and would hire someone on his own.
However, Rex held his hand and said
"Not now. First, have your breakfast then both of us will go there to check on Evelyn."
Regan looked reluctant so Rex sighed and made him understand.
"Although you and Evelyn need to look like a real husband and wife, you can’t show Lady Irwin that you are completely whipped by Evelyn. Don’t forget that she is the eyes and ears of the Royal Palace for now. Evelyn would be criticized more severely if people in Royal Palace got to know about your concerns for her."
Regan understood what Rex meant to say.
In other words, the prince or the King was allowed to marry anyone he wished, but he could never show as if he really loved his woman.
Because that was considered a weakness of a prince or a King. In the end, between an Empire and their family, they were supposed to choose the Empire always.
Regan didn’t like this perception but he didn’t wish to make things difficult for Evelyn so he followed what Rex said.
Hence, after they had finished their breakfast, Regan stood up from his chair and without waiting for Rex, he walked towards the garden where, the maid had told him, Evelyn was.
Rex smiled helplessly as he followed him hurriedly.
.
.
.
Inside the garden, Lady Irwin was telling maids where to adjust the round table and chairs she had needed.
She was first going to teach Evelyn how Royals were supposed to eat.
Evelyn had wanted to help her but she soon realized that Lady Irwin didn’t need any of her help. The woman was very strict and intimidating. The servants obediently did whatever she asked for.
Hence, Evelyn was now standing idly and watching everything with an amazed expression on her face. She actually liked how Lady Irwin carried herself.
"All of this must be surreal for you, right?"
Evelyn came out of her trance when she heard these words and looked at the maiden standing by her side.
It was the same maiden who had accompanied Lady Irwin but she had not talked to Evelyn yet. Evelyn was hence surprised for a moment before she pondered on how she should reply to the asked question.
The maiden however didn’t wait for her to answer the question and sneered as she said
"Being a slave before where you were below even a dog...now you are suddenly a Princess consort. Sometimes fate plays very shocking games, isn’t it?"
Evelyn stayed silent as she didn’t if she was really supposed to answer the question. She was not a fool who couldn’t understand that the maiden was mocking her by calling her lower than a dog.
However, she didn’t understand what wrong she had done to her for her to behave like this.
The maiden’s eyes were filled with anger when she saw how Evelyn was staring at her.
’Slaves were not supposed to look into master’s eyes’
She had wanted to say but she had to shut her mouth hurriedly when she heard Lady Irwin’s voice.
"Greetings, Your Highness."
Lady Irwin greeted both Rex and Regan and Evelyn immediately turned to look at them when she heard Lady Irwin’s greetings.
Regan’s eyes were immediately on her and he frowned when he saw a frown on her forehead and immediately walked towards her.
His hand went to hold hers without any hesitation and he pulled her towards himself. Evelyn’s eyes widened and she looked at Regan with surprise.
But then she thought that it must be for pretense so she composed herself and tried to cooperate. But her red ears showed that she was shy.
"Are you alright?"
Regan asked in a low voice that was audible only to him and Evelyn. Evelyn didn’t dare to raise her head and nodded stiffly.
Regan was calm when he heard this and his eyes finally went to the girl who had been standing by Evelyn’s side.
