Chapter 156: Arthur Knows Everything

Chapter 156: Arthur Knows Everything

Every time, Arthur called Evelyn his wife, Regan had to control himself from getting down from his seat and beating him to death.

But he controlled himself. He knew that he couldn’t mess up.

How could he not be aware of why Rex had been so worried! Rex thought that he would lose his calm in his anger but Regan wouldn’t let that happen.

He was aware that this matter was complicated. They still didn’t know exactly how powerful Arthur was but they could see that he was not powerless as well.

Regan was aware that he was supposed to handle this matter with his mind, not his strength. And hence, he couldn’t let his anger interfere.

When Arthur finished, he calmly stood up and turned to look at his so-called father as he said

"Your Majesty, Sir Arthur is forgetting something. Since Evelyn is my slave, she can’t be sold as long as I am unwilling. The rules of Alfaros ensure that a master has the sole rights on his slave once he had bought that slave ...regardless of whether the slave has any family or not."

This was also right.

Derrick knew it but he still didn’t say anything. After all, a part of him wished that Arthur would win this matter and that the slave would be taken away from his son.

Hence, he let Arthur speak.

Arthur was now looking at Regan with a smile but this smile was very polite. But Regan could see the sneer in that smile and he was right when Arthur said

"I am not aware if Your Highness has a bad memory. But from what I have come to know from my sources, Evelyn has already been freed from slavery by Your Highness. Hence, I don’t even need to pay any money. I was just trying to respect Your Highness for the days Your Highness has taken care of my wife. But if Your Highness can’t accept it, then I will let it go. However, as her husband, I have the right to take Evelyn with me."

All the calmness from Regan’s face vanished when he heard this. He had decided to hide this so that he could claim his rights to Evelyn as her master. As much as he disliked to do this, he knew that this would be of utmost help to them.

However, Arthur already knew about this.

It was not only Regan who lost his calmness but Rex was the same. The latter stood up from his seat and immediately said

"What sources do Sir Arthur have to get this information? And why would Sir Arthur think that it is true?"

Arthur was still smiling ...a smile too polite. He took a paper from his robe and said

"Your Majesty, this is the paper from the slave trader declaring that Evelyn has already been freed and the one who freed her was none other than Prince Regan himself."

The Royal Guard passed the paper to Derrick who only glanced at it. Derrick didn’t have much interest in this matter.

If it was in his power, he would have already given Evelyn to Arthur but he didn’t wish to become the evil father in his son’s eyes again so he was unwillingly giving Regan the chance he should get.

But the paper was already there which stated that that slave was free.

Derrick’s eyes went to his sons wondering what they will do now. What made him feel displeased was that even Rex was helping Regan with this rubbish!

He needed to talk to Rex later.

Just when he was thinking this, Rex spoke up again.

"A mere paper can’t be trusted. Who knows if you forced that slave trader to write this paper!"

Rex was very confident when he said this.

But Arthur was equally confident as he said his next words.

"It is not impossible as Your Highness says. Then why don’t we present Evelyn here only? We can ask her the truth. We can ask her if she is already freed from slavery. Every slave wears a black band on her hand, right? If she is still carrying it then I will believe that she is still a slave. I would request Your Majesty to order my wife’s presence here. She is the answer to all the questions."

However, before Derrick could even announce anything, Regan said very calmly

"She is not here. She is in Mazic. Even if His Majesty wants her here, it would take her at least four days in coming here."

Four days would be enough for them to come up with another plan. Rex thought the same as Regan was thinking.

However, who would have thought that Arthur would speak up again? There was still a respectful smile on his lips but the words he said were not respectful at all.

"I wonder if Your Highness lies usually or if this special treatment is reserved for me only."

Regan’s eyes narrowed and he stared at Arthur sharply. Rex didn’t look any different and Derrick’s cold and sharp voice immediately made the ministers in Royal Court shiver.

"Sir Arthur, don’t forget that you are just a guest. Talking to the Royal Prince of Alfaros like this....it can cost you heavily."

It could be seen that Derrick also didn’t like how Arthur talked to Regan.

However, Arthur continued to smile politely and said

"Apologies, Your Majesty. But what I said was true. Your Highness Prince Regan says that Evelyn is not here in Royal City which is a white lie. I claim that she is in Royal City only ...and I can even find her out if Your Highness allows me to do that."

Regan and Rex stared at Arthur silently who said these words confidently.

They didn’t say anything after this because they knew that Arthur even knew where Evelyn was.

It shocked them.

Indeed, they had underestimated Arthur.

He was more powerful than they had thought. To defeat him, they needed to be a step ahead of him but now it was he who was doing that.

Would they be able to save Evelyn from Arthur?
