Chapter 142: Oliver Cooks For Evelyn
Chapter 142: Oliver Cooks For Evelyn
Oliver was happy to see that Evelyn was awake when he returned to his room. However, he frowned when he saw that she was cleaning the room.
"Evelyn, what are you doing?"
At that moment, she was cleaning his study table.
Evelyn raised her head and looked at Oliver. She tried to smile lightly but she couldn’t do so. Apparently, Arthur’s words were still revolving inside her mind.
She didn’t know if she was overthinking or something was really wrong with Arthur.
When she was silent, Oliver walked to her and took the cleaning cloth from her hands. Holding her hand, he took her to the bed and made her sit there.
"You had just recovered from fever and you started doing all this already? What should I do with you?"
Evelyn stayed silent. She didn’t say that Gianna had told her many times she was supposed to keep Oliver’s room clean because he liked cleanliness. That’s why when she opened her eyes and realized after some times that she had not cleaned the room today, she started to do it immediately.
Oliver felt helpless as he saw how pale her face was
He touched her forehead again and realized that it was covered with sweat. Another sigh escaped his lips as he picked his handkerchief from the bedside table and wiped her forehead with it.
"You must be hungry. Let me ask Mother to cook some porridge for you."
Oliver said and then left the room.
However, he returned soon and had a conflicted expression on his face.
"Evelyn, Mother is sleeping."
Oliver sighed. He knew that his mother must be tired. He was also aware that she had taken care of Evelyn the whole morning so he felt very guilty to wake her up.
Just when Oliver was wondering what he should do, his eyes suddenly lit up and he looked at Evelyn and asked
"Do you know how to make porridge?"
Evelyn nodded her head. She was actually going to say that she could make it on her own. However, Oliver beat her to it and said
"Then you can tell me. I will do as you will say. I will make porridge for you."
Evelyn’s eyes widened when she heard this. She had never seen Oliver inside the kitchen.
Oliver however was too impressed by his idea.
He used his crutches to walk to the kitchen and then somehow dragged a chair there. It was difficult for him because of his legs so it took him a lot of time. After that, he held Evelyn’s hand and took her to the kitchen.
There, he made her sit on the chair and asked her from time to time what he was supposed to do next.
As Evelyn saw how he was doing everything even though his legs were creating many difficulties for him, she wanted to help him. However, Oliver looked at her strictly and asked her to continue sitting on the chair.
She could only sit and guide him while sitting idly.
After almost an hour late, Oliver stared at Evelyn and asked
"How is it?"
Evelyn raised her head and smiled
"It’s good."
Oliver was happy to hear this. It was the first time he had cooked.
"Is it so? Let me taste it."
Evelyn’s eyes widened hearing this and she was about to stop him but Oliver was faster this time. He picked a spoon and tasted some from the huge bowl of porridge.
As soon as he tasted it, he spat it out and his face wrinkled in distaste completely.
"This is the worst porridge I have eaten. It is so salty. I think I mistook salt for sugar. Why are you eating this, Evelyn?"
As Oliver said this, he tried to take the bowl away from Evelyn’s hands. He was actually very disappointed in himself. He couldn’t even cook something nice for her when she was sick and he talked about cherishing her for his whole life.
Oliver decided that he would learn from his mother how to cook from the next day itself.
However, Evelyn avoided his hands and said
"It’s alright for me. I can eat it."
Oliver stared at Evelyn with surprise. When Evelyn saw this, she said
"We can’t waste food, Oliver. Mother says that food is very costly."
Oliver liked Evelyn’s words but at the same time, he didn’t feel pleased. Yes, food was costly but they were not poor enough to eat such a salty porridge.
He wanted to stop Evelyn but when she said
"Besides, it is the first time Oliver cooked and it is for me. How can I let it go to waste!"
He couldn’t even move his hand to stop her.
Evelyn smiled widely when she said this.
Oliver felt his heart racing inside his chest when he saw her like this. A smile unconsciously spread on his lips and all the disappointment vanished immediately.
He remembered how he had asked his mother to let go of his betrothal with Evelyn when she had come and talked to him that night.
At this moment, he felt fortunate that his mother didn’t agree with him.
Evelyn was the person in his life for whom he will always thank god.
Just like that, both of them finished the salty porridge.
It was actually not that bad. Evelyn still remembered what all kinds of leftovers she would have to eat when she was at her uncle and Aunt’s house. Initially, when she used to cook brunt food, her aunt would force her to swallow it down. Sometimes she would have to sleep empty stomach as well.
So she also valued the food very much.
And from that moment on, Oliver also learned this from her.
After finishing lunch, both of them stepped out of the kitchen. When they stepped inside the living room, Arthur was also coming inside the house from outside.
Evelyn unconsciously held Oliver’s sleeve when she saw Arthur. This move of hers escaped neither Oliver’s nor Arthur’s eyes.
Arthur’s eyes went cold and Oliver frowned when he saw how Evelyn’s eyes were filled with fear.
His eyes then went to his younger brother.
Arthur looked at him coldly before he stepped inside his room while Oliver held Evelyn’s hand and stepped inside his room with her.
