Chapter 134: Oliver Agreed

Evelyn was confused. Arthur could see this very well.

How innocent! He thought.

This was what the girls in his class lacked who tried to pursue him. There were only a few because rest of them felt scared of Arthur’s coldness and indifference.

He suddenly understood why he never felt interested in them.

The liveliness and innocence of Evelyn was something that he never found anywhere. She was so innocent that she would not even feel scared of him.

His eyes suddenly went to her lips. They were pink...and very soft.

He thought when his fingers unconsciously touched them. But the touch didn’t last for long because Evelyn suddenly pushed his hand away and then ran out of the room.

Evelyn exited Arthur’s room.

Her hands were slightly trembling. She felt scared of the look in his eyes. In the past, Arthur had been cold usually but he had never looked at her like this...and he had never touched her before like that.

She felt confused as to why she didn’t like it and why he was touching her lips.

With a confused mind, she went to Oliver and gave him the glass of milk. Oliver raised his hand and smiled at her. However, his smile vanished when he saw that her forehead was covered with sweat.

He picked his handkerchief and gently wiped her forehead as he asked

"Evelyn, what were you doing that you are covered with so much sweat?"

Evelyn stared at him and opened her mouth to tell him what happened inside Arthur’s room. Perhaps Oliver would be able to solve her problem.

He always did. He was very intelligent.

However, before she could speak, the door of the room suddenly opened and Gianna stepped inside.

Her eyes softened when she saw Oliver and Evelyn together.

Oliver turned his head to look at his mother and instantly knew why she was here. That’s why, he took the glass from Evelyn’s hand and said

"Go to your room and rest."

Evelyn nodded her head and left.

After Evelyn had left, Oliver looked at his mother who walked to him and asked

"How is your studies going on?"

"It’s just good, Mother."

Oliver said calmly but frowned when he heard his mother say the next moment

"Then why do you want to delay the marriage between Evelyn and you?"

Oliver looked at his mother and sighed before he said

"Mother it is not about my exam. Evelyn is very young. She doesn’t even know anything. How can you expect me to marry her when she doesn’t even know the meaning of marriage?"

It was not that Oliver didn’t like Evelyn.

He liked Evelyn ...very much at that. From the day, his mother told him that she wanted him to marry Evelyn, he had considered Evelyn as his responsibility.

But somewhere he had decided that when she would grow up he would ask her if she wanted to marry him. If she said yes, then he would always cherish her. So what if his legs didn’t work, Oliver was confident that he would be able to give Evelyn everything.

That’s why he studied hard and was soon going to give the Royal Entrance exam. He wanted to provide Evelyn with everything she had ever desired or she would ever in the future.

However, if Evelyn would refuse him, he would let her go. But he would not marry anyone else in his life ever.

Evelyn would always stay inside his heart as his wife.

But this was too soon for all this.

Gianna clicked her tongue as if she thought what her son said was a very minor problem.

"You don’t worry about that. I would tell Evelyn everything she needs to know."

"Mother...she is just eight."

Oliver looked at his mother with a somewhat exasperated expression on his face. Gianna clicked her tongue again and said

"I am not talking about what you are thinking. I will tell her what exactly marriage means ...that she would need to stay with you for all her life. Don’t worry about that. You just tell me if you agree to marry her now?"

Oliver shook his head and he was at the lack of what to say. But Gianna suddenly dragged a chair to sit in front of him and said

"Oliver, do you want to wait until Evelyn is seventeen? You would be twenty-six by then."

"I don’t have any problem with that."

Oliver said instantly but Gianna frowned as she said

"I won’t let that happen. You need to marry Evelyn before the exam only."

Seeing that her son didn’t look happy, Gianna sighed in distress. How could she tell her son her fears!

It was her fear that once Evelyn would grow up and started to understand worldly things then she would refuse to marry Oliver. And Gianna was not as magnanimous as Oliver.

That’s why she wanted to tie Evelyn to her son when she was young only.

According to Gianna, they had raised Evelyn for whole three years like their own child. According to her, she had the right to do anything with Evelyn she wanted.

However, while thinking so, Gianna didn’t realize that she was being no different from Evelyn’s uncle and aunt.

"Oliver, Mother, and Father don’t know how long we would be alive for...if I died without seeing you already married to Evelyn, then I would never be peaceful after my death."

Gianna’s eyes were filled with tears when she said this.

And Oliver could never see tears in his mother’s eyes.

It made him feel as if he was not a good son.

"I am not asking you to give me a grandson, Oliver. I know Evelyn is still young. You can marry her first but stay as you are staying now. Just a certificate won’t change anything."

Oliver looked hesitant after hearing these words.

Gianna made it sound easy.

Gianna said many other things. But when she exited the room, there was a successful smile on her lips.
