Chapter 127: Gianna’s Eldest Son

Fortunately, Gianna didn’t take long. Though she was tired, she made at least three to four dishes with her husband’s help. Knowing that her son had not had anything in lunch, she felt very upset.

"I will go and call the boys."

Cooper said and left the dining table.

Gianna finally noticed the silent Evelyn still standing at the same place and said immediately

"Evelyn, why are you standing there? Come here."

Evelyn still remembered how scary Gianna looked some time ago but seeing the soft smile on her face again, she felt less scared and walked towards her with slow steps.

Gianna could see that she had scared the girl very much.

She really regretted losing her composure. So she tried her best to behave gently with Evelyn. She even picked Evelyn up and made her sit on a chair.

"Evelyn, from today on this is your seat."

Evelyn’s eyes went wide as she touched her chair and blinked at Gianna. A moment later, her eyes lit up with brightness and she said

"Thank you, Auntie."

The smile on Gianna’s face faltered for a moment. She thought something and had something to say but just at that moment, Cooper entered the room.

Evelyn raised her head when she saw that Gianna was looking toward Cooper. She saw that Uncle Cooper was walking very slowly so she frowned in confusion.

It was only when a boy stepped out from behind the curtain of the door of the dining room that Evelyn understood the reason. Her eyes went to the boy’s legs and she blinked again.

The boy was walking with the help of the stick but Cooper was still helping him.

Evelyn didn’t understand what was wrong with him and why he was walking like this. However, she could sense that the atmosphere inside the dining room was suddenly very depressing.

Gianna’s lips were pressed in a thin line as she looked at her husband who was helping their eldest son. A moment later, she forced a smile on her lips and said softly.

"Oliver, why didn’t you have lunch? I had cooked your favorite, my dear."

Oliver raised his head and looked at his mother.

His eyes flashed with guilt when he saw the worry in his mother’s eyes and he said immediately.

"Mother, I was busy reading inside my room so I forgot."

From behind Oliver stepped out another boy and Evelyn recognized him because he was the same boy whom Gianna had scolded.

The boy glanced at his mother who was looking at Oliver and silently sat down on one of the chairs.

Oliver also sat down on a chair that was just beside Evelyn. It was then only then that he noticed a young girl and frowned in confusion.

"Mother..."

He looked at his mother and was about to ask who this girl was when Gianna smiled at him gently and said

"Mother will tell you later. First, have your dinner."

Oliver nodded his head and had his dinner silently. However, from time to time, he couldn’t help but glance at the girl sitting beside him.

The boy who was silent all the time glanced at Oliver and then at Evelyn and then his eyes went to his mother who was also looking at Oliver and the young girl.

A moment later, mockery flashed in his eyes and then he silently lowered his head to eat.

The dinner finished in silence.

Gianna still didn’t talk to Oliver about Evelyn. She first asked Cooper to help Oliver inside his room and then she held Evelyn’s hand and brought her to another room.

When Evelyn stepped inside the room, she looked around in confusion.

It was a small room and there was a small bed inside but it was big enough for Evelyn’s small body.

"Evelyn, this will be your room from today on."

Evelyn’s green eyes went wide with shock when she heard this.

"This whole room?"

She suddenly asked in surprise and Gianna couldn’t help but chuckle at the question.

"Yes, This whole."

She answered.

Evelyn couldn’t believe it. She actually had her own room. Even in her uncle and aunt’s house, her cousins shared a room with each other. She used to sleep inside the kitchen only on a straw mat.

But here she was getting a whole room for herself.

Gianna didn’t stay for long. She made Evelyn sit on the bed and then said

"Now sleep. Tomorrow I will take you to buy some new clothes."

Evelyn blinked again and then nodded her head. She laid down on the bed and Gianna helped her in covering her body with a blanket.

When she was about to leave, Evelyn suddenly held her hand and said

"Thank you, Auntie."

Evelyn thought that this auntie was very good. Yes, she scolded that brother very fiercely but it must be that brother’s fault because auntie was very gentle to her. She was exactly opposite to how her aunt behaved with her.

She even gave her a bed, and a whole room and she also said that she would buy her dresses.

She didn’t feel scared of her at all.

Gianna was in a daze for a moment when she heard the thanks. It took her a long time to smile but anyone with wisdom could tell that that smile was an attempt to cover the guilt in the deepermost part of her heart.

She knew that she was not fair to Evelyn but she was still doing it.

She even said to Evelyn.

"You want to thank me?"

Evelyn nodded her head immediately. Gianna’s smile stayed very soft when she said

"Then call me mother from today on."

Evelyn was silent for a long time.

How could she call Gianna Mother she wondered? Her mother was already dead.

But when she saw how the smile from Gianna’s lips had started to falter, Evelyn didn’t think anything and said

"Alright, Auntie."

Gianna’s smile still didn’t return. Evelyn seemed to realize her mistake and corrected herself.

"Mother."

It was only then that Gianna smiled again.

She stroked Evelyn’s hair and turned off the only lamp inside the room before she left the room. Once outside the room, she locked the door from outside.

And then she went to Oliver’s room.
