Chapter 125: The Past(6)

May and Bentley were not happy with Evelyn’s answer. On the other hand, Gianna and Cooper looked ready to leave once they heard that Evelyn wanted to come along with them.

Gianna thought that things were in her favor.

Otherwise, why did Evelyn get to know about her uncle and aunt’s plans against her father and mother only today?

She could understand the child’s mind.

If it was before then she would have been afraid that Evelyn would refuse but since she knew what happened in the past few moments so she had been sure that Evelyn would say ’yes’.

Even if five-year-old Evelyn had never seen her parents, it was natural for her to feel alienated from May and Bentley after knowing their deeds.

And that was exactly what happened.

May’s smile was stiff when she suddenly stepped forward and said

"Ah let me spend some time with my niece. I should at least tell her about her situation."

May pretended to be a very gentle and kind aunt.

However, Gianna was not a fool.

She knew that she couldn’t let Evelyn go inside with May. Only God knew what would this fat woman teach Evelyn and the latter was just a child.

Children could be manipulated easily.

So Gianna smiled very pleasantly and said

"You don’t need to trouble, May. You have already worked hard all these years by raising Evelyn."

May’s face went blank because of the way Gianna was speaking. It was very obvious that she was mocking her.

But Gianna didn’t even give her any chance to vent her anger as she continued

"I will teach Evelyn whatever she needs to be taught."

Saying this, Gianna held Evelyn’s hand more firmly and then said to her gently.

"Let’s go, Evelyn. The sun is about to set. It will be night by the time we will reach our home."

Evelyn only nodded her head.

The mind of a five-year-old child was confused.

She didn’t want to stay with her uncle and aunt after knowing that they killed her parents. But she always felt as if something was missing.

Evelyn wondered. Could she not find someone who could punish her uncle and aunt?

Would there be no anyone who would take revenge for her parents?

The same question was asked by Evelyn from Gianna when they stepped out of the house all ready to leave.

Cooper was confused as he didn’t know what all happened in his absence. He didn’t know what his wife and Evelyn had heard from May and Bentley’s room.

However, Gianna who understood what Evelyn was trying to say stiffened. A moment later, she smiled very sadly and picked Evelyn in her arms.

Then she blinked her eyes as if she was trying to hide her tears and said

"Evelyn, I am very sorry. But we don’t have any evidence against them. Even if we go and tell the authority everything, they wouldn’t believe us. In fact, there is a high chance that they would put me and my husband behind the bars."

Little Evelyn’s eyes got filled with tears when she heard Gianna.

She immediately clutched Gianna’s dress and said

"Then we won’t go."

Gianna was relieved to see this.

She actually lied. Yes, they didn’t have any evidence. But at least the authority could look into the case once and perhaps they would have indeed found out some evidence against Bentley and May.

Gianna just didn’t wish to put her nose in this matter.

Anyways, Layla and Silas were already dead. She couldn’t bring the dead back. She was taking Evelyn with herself. She will give the girl a good life.

She was doing what she could.

Gianna comforted herself suppressing her own consciousness which screamed to her that she was doing everything for her own son.

Gianna saw her husband’s confused faze on herself but blinked her eyes in assurance and indicated to him not to ask anything.

In the end, Evelyn was a child.

When Gianna talked to her about other things, she easily forget whatever happened at her uncle and aunt’s home.

On their way back to the village, Cooper hired a carriage as the way was too long.

The carriage was not very comfortable in this area. Hence, Evelyn’s butt hurt whenever there was a bump on the road.

However, since she was seated in the carriage for the first time, her curiosity won the best and she looked at everything with her big wide eyes.

Cooper never had a daughter. He had two sons and the atmosphere had been very depressing in his house for almost a year now.

Evelyn’s liveliness suddenly made him feel fresh.

Seeing that the girl was trying to look out of the carriage from the gaps in the wood, he smiled and said

"Evelyn, come here."

Evelyn looked at Cooper. She had not talked to this uncle before so she was slightly scared of him.

But since he was calling her, she walked to him.

Cooper considerately held her arm as soon as she was near fearing that she would fall down.

Then he shifted slightly and made her sit on the other side after flipping the curtain of the carriage.

Evelyn understood that the uncle did it so that she could look outside. For a moment, she felt shy that she had been discovered but then she thanked Cooper.

Cooper chuckled and patted her head gently.

His eyes were filled with all smiles. When Evelyn turned to look at the scenery outside, he looked at his wife who was already looking at him with a smile.

Before Cooper had been very apprehensive regarding his wife’s decision even if he let her do what she wanted.

Perhaps it was a good decision to bring Evelyn along.

Perhaps Evelyn would make their home lively again.

And Evelyn who was looking outside was also feeling happy. She thought that this uncle and aunt were very good.

Perhaps she didn’t make a wrong decision.

If only she knew.

Being used to making someone else’s home lively, her own childlike liveliness would be clawed out of her life....that too quite mercilessly.
