Chapter 117: Regina’s Dreams And Rex’s Obligations

Travis turned around when he heard Prince Rex’s voice.

On the other hand, Regan was looking at his brother with a deep frown on his forehead. His eyes went blank when he heard Rex say to Travis

"That man...you are looking for....he is with us. He is inside the prison. You can take him. I will ask the guards to go and bring him."

"Rex!"

Regan called out in surprised filled voice. He couldn’t understand why Rex was doing this.

Rex didn’t see how Evelyn looked at the sight of that man but he knew so how could he allow this! She was ready to leave him just because of the fear that gripped her heart because of that man.

"You two...go and bring him here."

Rex said to two guards.

The two guards were about to leave the said job when Regan suddenly blocked their way and said coldly

"They are not going anywhere."

He said as he looked at Rex.

Rex sighed as he lowered his head. He knew that it would be difficult to make Regan agree. He smiled assuring manner at Travis when he saw that the Noble minister was not looking at Regan with much of an approving gaze.

After that, he walked to Regan and dragged him to a corner.

"Regan, for now please let me do what I am doing, alright?"

He whispered in almost a pleading manner.

"But why? Rex, you don’t even know how scared Evelyn was...he invaded inside her room, in a castle that is full of guards. He is not that of a simple person, Rex."

"Exactly what I am thinking Regan."

Rex whispered sharply.

With another sigh, he continued

"He convinced so many people even though he is from an enemy country. It means that he must have presented some solid evidence, Regan. You might not be seeing but Evelyn being related to him is going to affect Evelyn in a long term ...unless her husband..."

"He is not Evelyn’s husband."

Regan interrupted Rex sharply. Whatever that man said or whatever might be Rex saying, he didn’t believe that that man was Evelyn’s husband.

If he was, then what he doing all these years when she was suffering as a slave, when she was being beaten and starved.

Rex immediately changed his words and continued

"I mean that man...if that man really helps in finding William then that can even save Evelyn from what she might face if he didn’t, Regan."

Regan was still looking at Rex coldly.

"Tell me the real reason."

He said with an emotionless face. He could easily see that Rex was not speaking what was inside his heart.

It was just his way of convincing him.

Indeed, he was true. Rex avoided to look into his eyes the next moment. After a few moments of silence, he finally said the truth.

"Regan, if you didn’t let that man go with Minister Travis then he would go back and complain regarding you in the Royal Court. I told you that most of the noble ministers are already on Rafael’s side. If I let this happen, then I am sure that there would be no one to side you in the future in Royal Court."

"I don’t care."

Regan said calmly.

And it was the truth. Why should he try to find approval in the eyes of those people?

Rex knew that he would say this and that was why he was trying to convince him using Evelyn. He knew that Regan didn’t care.

But Rex did. Because he knew that if that happened then it would create more troubles in Regan’s way of ascending the throne.

But Regan never cared about the throne at the first place then why would he care about what noble ministers in Royal Court thought about him.

Rex sighed yet again. He suddenly felt very depressed and whispered

"It is not for me, Regan. You know...Mother had always wanted that after him (King Derrick), a king who would indeed feel sympathy for his people, who would destroy the evil prevalent in the Alfaros would ascend the throne. Back then, I had foolishly promised her that I am you will do it for her. After all, I have seen only one dream in her eyes."

Rex’s eyes went teary when he remembered Queen Regina.

His mother, Queen Eugine died very early. Rex was told that he was only a few months old. He had only seen her portrait and didn’t have any memory of her.

It was Regina who had brought him up as his mother. Never did Rex feel that he was just an adopted son. She brought him up as her real son and that was what made him feel obligated to complete her single wish she had told him once.

He wished that Regan would ascend the throne.

Only then he and Regan would be able to undo whatever wrong went in this Empire.

These words were more effective on Regan. His body was stiff all over when Rex mentioned his mother.

His eyes were blank and he silently looked at the ground.

A long time passed and just when Rex was thinking that he should just let the Travis go alone, he heard Regan say

"Go and bring that man out of the prison."

Rex couldn’t believe for a moment what he heard.

When he did, he hugged Regan tightly in his arms. His eyes were still slightly teary and he closed them as he whispered

"I knew that you still loved Mother the most, Regan."

Regan didn’t say anything in response though he hugged Rex back.

He didn’t tell Rex that though he had let that man out of the prison, there was no guarantee that he would let him get out of Mazic so safely.

He wanted to capture that man and then find out what had he done to Evelyn for her to behave like this.

And then he would avenge Evelyn ...by creating the same fear inside that man’s heart as he had created inside Evelyn.
