The Masked prince
Chapter 115: A Selfless Love

Chapter 115: A Selfless Love

Regan would have believed that the man was lying. However, when his eyes suddenly went to the bed as if he was trying to find something from Evelyn’s reaction, he knew that the man was speaking the truth.

Evelyn was sitting in the corner of the bed. Her eyes were filled with tears, panic, and fear. She was crying, sobbing. All in all, she was a mess.

But when she saw him looking at herself, she silently lowered her head as if she didn’t have any explanation.

Regan looked back at the man who was still grinning while looking at him.

The man stood up as he wiped the blood off his lips and started to proceed toward the bed. Seeing Evelyn’s shaking shoulders, he said very gently

"Evelyn, why are you crying? Don’t cry. I am alright."

As he said this, he had finally reached the bed and wanted to sit near Evelyn.

However, before he could do so, Regan caught him by his collar. The next second, he dragged the man out of the room and shouted for the guards.

It angered Regan how the guards took a few moments to reach him. No wonder this man could enter Evelyn’s chambers with such ease.

"Throw him in the cell."

Regan said coldly as he threw the man to the guards.

The guards also looked baffled as they wondered where the man come from. However, the next moment they caught the man.

The man struggled fiercely and his eyes were shining with coldness.

"You might be a prince but you can’t treat me like this. Do you even know who I am?"

Regan’s expression didn’t change at all after hearing his words. His body was excluding nothing but ruthlessness and anger.

How he wished to kill him then and there! However, taking a step without knowing anything could be harmful to him as well as Evelyn. So at this moment, the best thing was to throw him inside the cell so that he would not reach Evelyn again.

"What are you waiting for?"

He said coldly to the guards who swallowed in nervousness as they realized their mistake. They were actually shocked by the man’s audacity. How dare he talk to their prince like that!

After Regan’s cold words, they came out of their trance and immediately dragged the man away.

The man glared at Regan but left calmly with the guards.

Regan frowned when he saw his calmness.

However, he didn’t have much time to ponder this. He had much important things in his hands.

Regan immediately went inside the room where Evelyn had shrunk herself into a corner of the bed.

He walked to the bed but didn’t dare to sit by her side.

She looked so traumatized that Regan couldn’t bear to even touch her fearing that she would resist him.

"Evelyn..."

He called out softly. In response, Evelyn only raised her head.

Evelyn’s shoulders were trembling harshly as she sobbed and cried. She suddenly opened her mouth and pleaded

"I...Your Highness....Please let me... leave from here...I wish ....to leave."

He was her husband as he said and Regan remembered and from what he could sense it was the truth. However, Evelyn was so traumatized by his presence.

Regan didn’t know if he should feel relieved. Even if he wished to, he couldn’t.

Because a question kept eating his insides.

What did he do for her to reach such a state!

Regan swallowed the thickness inside his throat.

Could a person’s tear make you so weak? Evelyn’s tears did that to him. He carefully moved his hand towards her cheek. Seeing that she didn’t back away, he touched her cheek and gently wiped away her tears.

"Do you want to stay me by your side?"

Evelyn closed her eyes at the touch of his hand but didn’t respond to her questions. Perhaps she didn’t have the courage to say ’yes’.

Regan silently moved towards her and picked her up from the bed.

She didn’t resist any of his move and silently hid her face in his neck. He could feel the wetness of her eyes against his skin.

Her body was still trembling.

He didn’t say or ask anything. He only got her out of that room. Once outside the room, he suddenly came across Rex who looked as if he had come running to find him.

"Regan..."

Rex opened his mouth to say something but when his eyes suddenly fell on Evelyn in Regan’s arms, he frowned and shut his mouth.

Regan only glanced at him before he walked past him.

Rex silently followed him.

Evelyn didn’t raise her head the whole way. However, the trembling of her body had stopped. She opened her eyes slightly and closed them again.

The security she felt in these arms was something she had never felt before. It was as if no one could harm her as long as the prince was here.

Regan took Evelyn to his chambers.

He laid her down on the bed and then covered her with a blanket. His chambers were lit with candles so he could now easily see Evelyn’s red and swollen eyes.

He suddenly remembered how her head was lowered the whole time before.

Had she cried before that?

Guilt filled his heart. Indeed, he had been too indulged in his anger and pain. He sat by her side and said gently

"Go to sleep, Evelyn."

Evelyn didn’t close her eyes and silently looked at him. She wondered why he didn’t ask anything. Did he not care or was he looking out for her?

As if he could sense her questions, Regan said calmly

"We will talk when you will feel ready to do so."

The words made Evelyn’s lips quiver and she nodded her head slightly. Her hand unconsciously went to find his.

Perhaps it was only this man who have ever considered her as a human being, who had been considerate of her pain, her emotions and her happiness.

Regan held her hand back in a firm grip. He squeezed it gently as if trying to assure her that he would stay.

He would have felt so happy with Evelyn’s actions if the situation had been different. But at this moment, he would never took her vulnerability as her affection towards him.

She needed a support and he was ready to become that support without wanting anything in return.
