Chapter 146: Buzz Off, Old Man!
Marcello and the other had entered the party hall. They were shocked to see how beautifully decorated and huge it was.
"I guess the Ivanov family is wealthier than our family", Nikolai whispered.
"Shut up!" Maria whispered back, stylishly hitting him on his side. There were a lot of influential guests. They were all well dressed. Even the vice president of the country was around. Of course, he should be. He came in place of the busy president. Popular celebrities, well-known politicians and others were hanging around, drinking and chatting.
"We should blend in. Remember, we are spending just an hour here. So get what you need to get done, and let’s leave immediately," Maria whispered to Marcello, who was disguised.
He nodded his head.
"Good" she smiled and turned to Nikolai. "You, come with me," she said and left with him. Mario found his way himself and Marcello was standing alone by the door. His heart was beating rapidly in his chest as he looked around for Eduardo. It would be too suspicious for him to just walk up to Eduardo after his entrance, so he picked up a glass of champagne and started to get busy with his phone.
’My heart can’t stop beating. Am I... nervous?’
He asked himself, confused. He hung around with some guests, chatting about random things and calculating his time and movements.
On the other hand, Mr Vladimir, who was with his butler had just realised that his daughter had given birth to two children. It wasn’t just Eduardo, he had a granddaughter.
"Ha! The prime minister has a son, doesn’t he?" He asked his butler.
"Yes, Master" the butler responded with a slight nod.
"Haha! That’s good. If I can’t get Eduardo to get married to the prime minister’s daughter, I’ll have my granddaughter marry his son instead. That way, we’ll be able to strengthen our contract" he held a glass of champagne in his hand.
"That’s an excellent idea, Master" the butler smiled.
"Then, shall we go to meet my granddaughter?" He asked.
The butler made way for him as they approached Viola. As soon as they got close to her, someone blocked him off.
Mr Vladimir’s eyes widened in shock, seeing his second daughter in front of him.
"Lily?" He called.
"You remember my name. What a surprise," she crossed her arms, glaring at him.
"Aunt? Who is that?" Viola asked, peeping through Lily’s shoulder.
"Someone you shouldn’t concern yourself with" she frowned. Viola could notice his angry her aunt was. She had never been that angry throughout the time they lived together in the States. She raised her head and looked at the old man in front of her. She noticed the blonde hair he had and furrowed her eyebrows.
"Are you the father of my late mother?" She asked.
"Oh, my dear granddaughter... yes, I am. I am your grandfather" he smiled, stretching his hand out for a hug.
Viola frowned deeply, stepping closer to her aunt.
"I didn’t see your name on the guest list. How did you get in?" She asked. Lily was shocked to hear that, and at the same time, she was pleased to see his she was treating the old man in front of her.
"How can you say that to your grandfather? Of course, it’s my grandson’s ceremony today; I have to be here," he spoke as if he really wanted to be here.
The prime minister and his family were part of the guests, so he was here to arrange a coincidental meeting between his daughter and Eduardo.
Viola laughed and took a step closer to Mr Vladimir.
"Fine. Let’s say you’re my grandfather, do you know my name?" She asked and he flinched.
His lips were tight shut. Of course, he doesn’t know her name. Even Eduardo’s name was learnt by coincidence.
"It doesn’t matter now, does it? You haven’t met this old man in a while, shouldn’t you welcome him warmly?"
"So you can sell me off to a man I don’t know, like you did to my mother and her sisters? You have ten seconds to step away from my aunt, or I’ll order the security to throw you out," She said.
"Hold on dear... I swear, I won’t force you into a marriage that..."
"Five..."
"Four..."
"Didn’t you say ten seconds?" Mr Vladimir frowned.
"Pardon me, old man. I skipped. Now, do yourself a favour and buzz off..."
"You’ll regret this" he gritted his teeth and walked away with his butler.
Eduardo, who was watching everything smiled at his sister’s drama. He turned to David, placing a hand on his shoulder.
"Shouldn’t you use the opportunity to get close to my sister before she gets stolen away?"
"But, young master... I can’t leave you to be all by yourself," David said. Of course, he didn’t want to leave at all. He had no interest in Viola, but he can’t say that to Eduardo.
"Some other guards are keeping their eyes on me. Do you think anyone could possibly harm me?" He asked, with a grin.
David sighed. It was true that the other guards were hiding around the balcony, even dressed as guests, keeping their eyes on Eduardo, but at the same time, they were all Fabio’s men. They could overlook anything that Fabio does to Eduardo.
"Don’t think too much about it. Good luck" Eduardo said and pushed him gently.
David started breathing heavily as he walked towards Viola. He didn’t know what to say. Thoughts flooded into his head, as he clenched his sweaty palms.
"Uhm..." He stuttered behind Viola. She turned around to see David, handsomely dressed in a black suit and his hair was slicked back. She blushed as she admired him.
Lily saw the look on her face and whispered to Viola.
"I’ll give you two some time alone" she winked and walked away. Her voice was loud enough that David heard her.
They were standing close to each other amid the other guests. It was noisy but the silence between them was awkward. David had never been the type to approach any girl. He gulped the emptiness in his mouth as he parted his lips to speak.
"You look beautiful, by the way, Miss Viola"
"Thank you, David", she replied with a smile.
It suddenly went quiet. David turned his head and saw Eduardo still speaking to the guests.
"Uhm, if you don’t mind... Let’s take this somewhere quiet" he said.
"Sure, why not?" He answered. He turned to look at Eduardo one more time before following Viola out of the party hall.
’I guess nothing could go wrong if I leave for some minutes, right?’
