Chapter 46: Chapter 32: Lich Love Story Season 3 (2) (Second Update)
"How could he ask me something like that?" Shelley muttered to herself angrily as she walked down the street.
The five maids following closely behind were at a loss.
"If I answered, wouldn’t that make me seem like a frivolous woman?"
*"But if I just walked away like that, wouldn’t he be upset?"*
*"Should I go back now?"* Shelley stopped in her tracks and looked back, her face as red as an apple.
*"If I go back and he asks me that question again, what should I do? I don’t even know the answer. How am I supposed to respond?"* Talking to herself, Shelley suddenly froze: *"Oh, that’s right, I really don’t know. Why didn’t I just tell him that?"*
So, the five maids followed her as she walked back.
...
As you know, the more you don’t want a curious person to know something, the more they want to know it, to the point of doing whatever it takes.
Clearly, Lich belonged to this kind of species.
There’s a saying, "Curiosity killed the cat." Why doesn’t it say "Curiosity killed the Lich"? Probably because the Lich is already dead and can’t die again.
After Shelley left, Gray squatted on the spot deep in thought, completely forgetting about the chivalrous deeds he still needed to perform. He tried to deduce the entire process of human "creation" through sheer imagination.
Of course, he failed. For a Lich who knew nothing beyond bone maintenance, this was an impossible task.
"I need more information."
"Uh..."
"Don’t you have anything to tell me? With enough information, I believe I can figure it out on my own. Please don’t doubt a Lich’s intelligence."
"Yes, I’ve never doubted it," said the Black Cat expressionlessly.
"And?"
"I have nothing to tell you."
"Are you sure?" Gray’s hand reached inside his armor.
"Wait, wait! I really don’t know! I had no kids when I was alive, and you Liches don’t know every magic, right? How could I know everything?"
Gray thought about it and realized the Black Cat made a valid point. He didn’t understand many kinds of magic. And "creating life" clearly belonged to humanity’s more advanced form of "magic."
However, quite a few people seem to understand it. Otherwise, where did all these humans come from?
So, do they have some special way to learn?
Leading his Bone Horse and deep in thought, Gray even forgot to help the elderly.
Suddenly, he saw two kids on the grass, placing a cloth and gathering together, seemingly involved in something.
"Honey! I’m home!" the little boy shouted, then sat down on a chair.
"You must be tired from working all day?" The little girl rubbed the boy’s shoulders.
"Not really. I have to work hard for you and the child!"
"Dinner is ready; I’ll bring it out."
"Okay."
Next, the little girl turned around and brought two plates with two pieces of wild grass and a bit of dirt on them.
"You eat first. I have to feed the baby."
"Okay." The little boy began "eating" with two wooden sticks pretending to be a fork and knife, while the little girl rocked a doll, cooing continuously.
"I get it!" Gray suddenly realized.
The Black Cat, already numb to such declarations, watched with a blank face. Usually, when Gray said "I get it," he would make quite a scene. But what could be done? Who could stop a Lich?
The cat turned around, crawled back into the chest piece of the armor, lay on the food, and went to sleep, prepared to ignore anything that might happen.
And so, without the Black Cat to stop him, Gray began to let himself go. After exchanging some "experience" with the two kids, he hurriedly mounted his horse and headed straight for the castle.
...
"Hey, where’s Gray?" Looking at the grassland with only a mat and a few baskets left, Shelley said nervously, "He isn’t mad at me, is he? Help me find him quickly!"
"Yes!"
...
In the afternoon, Yilin was busy inspecting the newly forged armor. About ten pieces of heavy armor were neatly lined up in her small hall.
"We can now forge ten sets of heavy infantry armor a day, and thirty sets of light armor. We have enough people, so the pace is good," Abi Robbs explained, holding a notebook. "If war breaks out in a month, we can replace all the armor the army needs, but we might run low on materials. We didn’t prepare for this much pig iron beforehand, and the ordered pig iron will take ten days to arrive. I’ll have people push for faster delivery. Right now, the concern is if His Majesty the King dispatches troops early, then..."
"What about grain?"
"The grain is fully prepared. We had a good harvest last year, so there’s plenty. The bakery is grinding flour quickly. But we’re running low on military funds."
"Aren’t there trade caravans? If we really run short of materials for armor, we can buy finished armor from them directly."
"But our military funds are already low."
"I’ll figure out the money. Just follow the fastest method."
A guard rushed in, saluted, and said, "Miss Yilin, Baron Gray says he has an urgent matter to see you about."
"An urgent matter?" Yilin paused, then said, "Everyone else, please leave."
"Yes."
Abi Robbs and the knights present left the hall, and soon Gray appeared in front of Yilin.
"I’d like to borrow someone from you!"
"Who?"
"Little Jimmy!"
"You’ve found evidence of Edward III’s collusion with the King?" Yilin asked, overjoyed.
"I want Little Jimmy to play house with me!"
In an instant, the smile on Yilin’s face froze. She coughed violently and almost choked on her own saliva.
"I didn’t hear you clearly. Say that again?"
"I want Little Jimmy to play house with me." Gray said seriously and even gestured to explain, "I’ll be the dad, he’ll be the son, and I plan for Shelley to be the mom..."
"Stop! I get it!" Yilin suppressed her anger and barely managed to calm down.
She had been fighting tirelessly, preparing for the impending war day and night. And now her strongest knight rushed in with something urgent, prompting her to dismiss everyone. It turned out to be about playing "house"... Which lord wouldn’t be infuriated by this?
"Are you serious?"
"Of course. Last time, when I had Little Jimmy play the dragon, you were very angry. So, I came to inform you this time. Did you notice my wording? ’He’ll play with me,’ not ’I’ll play with him.’ This way, he can be my son. You know, I’ve never been a father—it’s not helpful for married life. So, beforehand, I want some experience. You must agree it’s beneficial. I know you’re very busy. That’s why I wouldn’t disturb you over something unimportant."
"You’re very considerate..."
"Of course, your knight is always considerate!"
Yilin smiled stiffly, her mouth twitching, but she forced herself to smile.
"Fine! I’ll agree! Consider it an apology for last time! Go, have fun!"
"Thank you! I knew you’d agree!"
At this moment, Shelley was hurriedly entering the castle by carriage.
"Are you sure he’s back at the castle?"
"Sure, Miss Shelley."
Half an hour later...
Little Jimmy kneeled on a rug in his room, pouting with anger.
Gray sat on his left, seriously pondering how to start, while Shelley on his right, looked lost. A complete set of kitchen utensils was spread out in front of them.
"Why do I have to be your son and play this boring game with you?"
"Because Yilin agreed."
"If she agreed, do I have to play with you?"
"Yes."
"No way! I demand to see my father! I want to see my father!"
"Your father is right here."
"No, you’re not! You’re not, you’re not, you’re not!" Little Jimmy began to throw a tantrum, screaming and crying.
Faced with this, Gray had no idea how to handle it. But Shelley did.
"Is this Little Jimmy?"
"Yes."
"Oh." Remembering the events of the previous night, Shelley said mischievously, "Normally, if the child isn’t good, you have to spank them."
"Ah—! You dare!" Little Jimmy screamed sharply.
"Guess?" Shelley slowly smiled. Although her smile was youthful, it bore a resemblance to her grandfather Count Gruglu: "Gray, aren’t we trying to experience married life? Why not start with spanking the child?"
"Help, help—!"
"Smack, smack, smack!"
"You hit me! I’ll tell my father! I’ll have my father kill you!"
"Bang, bang, bang!"
"What are you doing! Don’t come any closer! Don’t come any closer—!"
"Thud, thud, thud!"
"How can you do this... I, I am the heir of the Field Family! The future Earl Field! How can you treat me like this..."
Little Jimmy’s screams echoed in the castle’s first-floor corridor, terrifying the maids. They wanted to intervene but couldn’t because Pas stood guard outside, fully armed.
"Don’t worry, nothing will happen. Miss Yilin instructed us to let him play with Baron Gray and Miss Shelley."
"But... if we don’t intervene, will he be beaten to death?"
"As long as we can hear crying, it means he’s not dead."
Sure enough, after listening closely, the crying continued, albeit increasingly faint.
...
The wardrobe was smashed, the table wrecked, and even the bed was reduced to pieces. The entire room looked like a bomb had gone off. In the eyes of the Lich, this was the level of force for "spanking a child."
However, Little Jimmy wasn’t hurt at all. Gray only intended to scare him, and the boy was indeed frightened silly.
Every bit of his expression was dazed.
"Come on, open wide," Shelley said, holding a bowl of dirt mixed with wild grass, offering a spoonful to Little Jimmy’s mouth.
Obediently, Little Jimmy opened his mouth and started chewing it. While he chewed, tears streamed down his face, and he muttered indistinctly, "You’ll pay for this."
"Pay for what?" Shelley asked.
At this question, Little Jimmy immediately felt like crying again.
With a "Bang," Gray smashed the chair beside him to pieces with a punch.
Frightened, Little Jimmy held back his tears.
"Swallow it," Shelley said, her smile fading into an emotionless expression.
Little Jimmy looked at Shelley tearfully and obediently swallowed the dirt and grass.
"Good boy~ What were you saying about paying for what?"
"Remember... remember my parents’ love for me," choked the ten-year-old child.
"Good!" Shelley nodded in satisfaction.
