Chapter 45 - 31: Lich Love Story Season 3

Chapter 45: Chapter 31: Lich Love Story Season 3

In this world, inheritance issues are always the aristocracy’s top priority; many wars are sparked because of it. Even the thousand-year-old grudge between the Isaac Kingdom and the neighboring Allen Kingdom originated from this.

And once blood is shed, it means the climax is about to come.

After a stormy night, the atmosphere in the entire White City was noticeably tense the next day. Soldiers were formed into patrol teams of five and began to inspect everywhere, and everyone could clearly feel the change. Surprisingly, the tabloids in White City were exceptionally quiet, reporting only trivial matters.

What else could they do?

Inheritance rights are a matter of life and death for lords. Reporting nonsense is fine in peacetime, but now that swords are drawn, doing so would be courting death. It was heard that editors, sensing the change in atmosphere, had been waiting outside the castle gates early to seek an audience with Yilin. They had no other intention but to find out the lord’s stance and what the lord preferred to hear at this time.

Of course, none of this concerned Gray. Or rather, Gray wasn’t concerned about it for the time being, because he had encountered a new trouble—Shelley.

As soon as he opened his door in the morning, he found Shelley dressed prettily standing at his door. She had been following him ever since.

He took a step, and Shelley followed. He ran, and Shelley ran after him.

The worst part was, Shelley was always smiling at him...

Previously, she would cry whenever she saw him.

Crying was actually annoying too, but at least it was simple and understandable. Gray knew clearly that Shelley cried because she was sad. Although Gray couldn’t figure out why exactly she was sad—as if everything could make her sad. But at least he knew she was sad, right?

What’s with the smile now? And staring at him, smiling all the time... It was very creepy.

"Could she have discovered my secret?"

"You still have secrets? What secret?"

"How can you ask me what secret when such a big ’secret’ is standing right here?"

"Oh, you mean the fact that you’re a Lich? Definitely not. If she knew that, she wouldn’t be smiling."

"Are you sure?"

"I’m sure."

But Gray was still dissatisfied. He had to go out to seize some opportunities to promote knighthood, yet Shelley had to follow him. This made it so that he had to let Shelley ride the horse while he led it.

"She’s affecting my speed of action, which will make me miss many opportunities to promote knighthood, thereby delaying my becoming a great knight. Maybe by years, or even forever! Oh, dear! Just thinking about it is terrifying!"

"Oh, you can’t bear it now? Then why did you propose to her? Still thinking of having many little Liches?"

"What does this have to do with proposing?"

"When you get married, you even have to sleep together, you know?"

"But I don’t need to sleep."

"..."

The Black Cat suddenly thought of a serious problem: "You don’t think that getting married necessarily means having kids, do you?"

"Isn’t that the case?" Gray asked back.

"Oh my, you think it is?" The Black Cat was shocked.

Gray said earnestly, "In the ’Knight Education Guide,’ it says that as long as you get married, you will have children after a few years. The ’Bible’ says so as well. But it is strange; why do some people who aren’t married also have children? Is marriage not a necessary condition?"

The Black Cat’s eye twitched immediately.

So, this guy never figured out the issue between Yilin’s "biological daughter" and Jones’s "illegitimate son," huh?

Should I now teach a Lich about human physiology?

"Ha, those who are interested can go ahead, I’m not doing it."

"What did you say?"

"Nothing, just yawned, didn’t say anything," the Black Cat chuckled.

Probably due to the imminent possibility of war, some merchant teams chose to leave early, making White City more desolate. With more patrolling soldiers, there were fewer pedestrians.

This made Gray very conflicted. Worse, most of the soldiers knew him. Whenever they saw him trying to do something, they would come and help.

As a result, by the end of the morning, he had helped three elderly people cross the street. And that was only after he desperately seized the opportunity. Because he helped too eagerly, one of them, who didn’t want to cross the street, was helped across and had to be helped back again.

Does that count as two?

Alright, no. So, excluding that one, he had actually only helped one.

This made Gray feel that his knightly career was bleak.

*"What should I do? Can I still become a great knight?"* Gray looked back at Shelley, sitting on the horse, sweetly smiling at him with her hair flowing.

Shelley’s gaze never left Gray for a moment.

"Love is truly blind." The Black Cat clicked its tongue, "She’s followed you all morning, yet hasn’t realized you’re a fool?"

"Help me think of a way to get rid of her."

"That’s simple. She’s alone. It’s almost noon. In a while, send her back to the castle for lunch, and then sneak away while she’s not paying attention."

"Hey! This sounds pretty good!"

Turning back, he suddenly saw Shelley receiving a basket from a maid.

"I thought about it, and it’s pretty far from here to the castle. You’ve been walking all morning and must be tired. So, I had them prepare a place here. We’ll have a picnic at noon."

As she spoke, Shelley pointed, and Gray saw that the four maids of the Gruglu family had already laid out a mat on the grass and set up a lavish lunch.

*"Do I have to eat in front of her?"* Gray was dumbfounded.

"Don’t ask me how to get rid of six people; I don’t know either," the Black Cat muttered quietly.

...

The river flowed gently, a dragonfly landed on the reeds by the river, trembled lightly, and then flew away.

The small riverside grass was laid with a mat, and Gray and Shelley leaned against it.

Shelley handed a sandwich to Gray.

"Come on, open your mouth, ah~"

There were five maids staring at Gray.

And that’s not all; further away, passersby stopped to watch.

"Isn’t that Baron Gray and Miss Shelley? Are they having a picnic?"

"They look like they’re getting along well."

"Handsome man, beautiful woman, they’re a perfect match."

"Handsome man? Have you seen Baron Gray’s true face?"

"No... Hehe, otherwise, why do you think I’m staring?" the speaker giggled.

Yes, a large group of girls, with a few old ladies mixed in, were waiting for Gray to lift his mask and reveal his face.

Not only that, three artists had set up their easels five meters away from Gray, ready to start sketching. It would be the headline illustration for tomorrow’s newspaper.

Everyone had wide eyes and craned necks.

Gray’s spine went cold.

*"What should I do?"* Gray whispered to the Black Cat.

"How would I know what to do? Figure it out yourself," the Black Cat was already numb.

Thinking of nothing else, Gray simply said, "I’ll do it myself!" Then he took the sandwich, lifted his mask a tiny bit, and shoved it in. Then he pretended to look around casually.

Suddenly, everyone fell silent. Including Shelley.

"You eat so fast."

"Do I? I always eat like this."

"Were you that hungry? No worries, I’ve prepared plenty!" Shelley sweetly smiled again and prepared the next piece for him.

Everyone craned their necks again.

Gray used the same trick! Yes, he was not afraid anymore!

Then the third piece, the fourth, a chicken leg, a whole pork leg, greens, and all kinds of food.

The Black Cat hidden in the armor was buried in food.

"Have you thought about what it will smell like when you stuff so much food in the armor in this weather?"

"Just eat it all?"

"Do you think a cat can eat it all?" the Black Cat said weakly.

As the onlookers left disappointedly, Shelley seemed even happier. She said excitedly, "You have such a good appetite; our future children will definitely be healthy!"

Gray suddenly heard a topic of interest. So, he held Shelley’s hand and said, "Shelley, I want to ask you something!"

"Go ahead."

"How exactly do we have kids after we get married?"

Hearing this, Shelley blushed like an apple, her head lowering more and more.

"You, you asked me that all of a sudden... I, I don’t know how to answer. Isn’t it too early to talk about this now?"

"Too early? Didn’t you just bring it up?"

"Did I?"

"Of course, I heard it clearly."

"Well... Um, just get married, and then have kids." Shelley looked at Gray with wide eyes.

Gray said seriously, "I think you misunderstood my meaning. I want to know the specifics."

"You, you want how ’specific’?" Shelley was stunned.

"The more specific, the better!"

"The more ’specific,’ the better?"

"Yes!" Gray nodded heavily.

Shelley’s heartbeat quickened, her breathing became rapid. She stared at Gray, her face burning hot, biting her lip, and furrowing her brows enough to twist water. She couldn’t speak for a long time.

But Gray was still staring at her, waiting for an answer. Moreover, he kept gesturing for her to continue speaking.

They stared at each other.

The maids around them were so embarrassed they didn’t know where to look, while the Lich still had no concept of embarrassment.

After a while, Shelley couldn’t take it anymore. She suddenly stood up and, looking pained, said, "No, we can’t talk about this now! I’m not a frivolous girl!"

After speaking, she turned and ran off.

The maids quickly chased after her one by one.

In the blink of an eye, only Gray was left standing on the lawn.

"She doesn’t want to tell me, does she?"

"Yes."

"Why doesn’t she want to tell me? Isn’t this a serious topic? How does it relate to being frivolous?"

"Right, it is indeed a serious topic. Quite serious." The Black Cat, long used to this, was utterly unfazed and slightly spiteful.
